How to tell if a Hot Wheels var. is rare?

Well, I finally got a couple of boxes of my HW's back from my parents and was trying to inventory what I've got. I was using the Texas Hot Wheels Guide to print out lists of the cars and variations (not for actual values), and came across 2 variations they had listed as $15 and $35 each. Does this mean the vars are actually hard to find?
