Newport JL Collectors: Help !!!!!!

For those who aren't aware, the beautiful city of Newport Rhode Island is actually on an island ..... Aquidneck Island, to be specific. Many of you may have read my posts that there are fewer and fewer places on the island to buy JLs...... our local Wal Mart - much like everyone else's - stopped getting new ones in regularly, as did our local KB (which subsequently closed anyway at Christmas time). We were left with a local hobby shop that had maybe a dozen older releases (a couple of James Bond dioramas, Yesterday and Today's, some Postal Cars, Slot Cars) and hasn't gotten anything new in a couple of years, and one 7-11 that gets an inner once a year.

Well, I stopped in that hobby shop yesterday and they have a new employee working there. Unlike the owner, he's a very personable guy (said his name was "Doogle") who collects Star Wars things, and can relate to us JL nuts in our "hunting".

We talked about the lack of JL anywhere on the island, and he said he'd discuss it with the owner. He suggested it would be a good idea if any JL collectors in the area (and we all know that you're out there reading this! ) stop by, and ask him about getting more JLs. He said this would give him some "ammo" with the owner, to report that these people are stopping in and asking about JLs. Might convince him to start ordering again.

You might actually want to take a look at the left-over JLs and pick one up just to help get rid of them and show that there IS a demand for them in the area. He's going to talk to him about lowering the prices on the left over stuff to help move it (had a very nice "Anniversary" series AMC Machine, in the giant silver card with a gold medallion, $8.99, as well as e red '70 Camaro).

So, if you're anywhere near Newport (and yes, Fall River counts!) and you want another local outlet for JLs, stop by the Hobby House at 146 Broadway in Newport (phone# 401-847-1515) and see "Doogle" and tell him to pass on that another collector is looking for more JLs on the island!

I have no financial stake in this place, just a desire to have another local store to do some "hunting" in.

Fifty one sets of eyes on this thread, and not a single post...... guess the odds of any JL fans in SE Mass/RI actually going to that shop are pretty slim then, huh???

If I had made it to Newport on Monday I had planned on stopping there. He definitely doesn't have much as far as JL goes, but I've bought a few models, paints, and brushes from him.

Next time I'm in the area I'll stop.

I'd love to help, but it's kind of a long ride for me. Besides, I'm working on the local guys to get more JL's and that's quite an effort.

If I get out that way Rich I will stop in. How's it going otherwise. As far as anything is concern I went on a seminar in CT yesterday and stopped on the way home at WM and TRU and they have nothing new.

I spend a few days in Newport every spring and summer when the big boats are around. I'll stop in to that store and ask about JL too. Bigboats - that can have a double meaning to a JL collecter in Newport.

Thanks going out to Bill and Dave..... this thread was also intended for the many "lurkers" out there who may be in the area (I know for a fact they're all over the Fall River area!)...... they can ask for more Johnny's too! (Freakin' parasites, who am I kidding here......?)
