Last year ('05) I got into sponsoring contests, something I wanted to try for a while. This year, as a result of things started on the Secret Santa program (thanks again, Zack!), I wound up getting involved in trading for the first time. For those Hobby Talkers who haven't tried it, it's awesome!!! Very fulfilling.
I have maybe 9 trades in the works right now, and one of the biggest upsides to this is helping a fellow member complete a set or find a car he's been looking forever for. Lot of satisfaction in helping these folks, and it's money you already had spent so it costs you just shipping out of pocket. I actually sent out everyone of my "trades" without even knowing what I was going to ask for or receive in return (well, 'cept for Puppycat's two '69 Impalas, anyway!). It helps thin out your own collection a bit as well. The neat part is getting things you've been chasing, in return!
I'd like to challenge more Hobby talkers to get more involved this year. Sponsor a contest if you can, post some interesting "5 Question" threads, get involved in trading with other members.
Next thing you know, I'll be buying from an OLD!!!!
I could not agree with Carnut more. I still consider myself a fairly new collector but I am serious about getting the castings that I need. I currently have 236 different JL Mustang castings and this is due in large part to trades made on this board. HobbyTalk is a wealth of information and what I like to call "good people". Please do not hesitate to ask for something, chances are someone here has extras. The majority of us are willing to make uneven trades to help others out. I know I am, just saw CN post about the top up and down Impalas, just kidding I definately got the better end of that trade!!!!!
ditto ont he trading part... i love to trade, just hard to find someone to trade with that have a mutual agreemet on what eachother wants (ie... i don't have any mopar's to trade :P)
I actually have a decent sized trade list comming up soon, maybe later tonight, once i take pictures of them all.
I have some cars for carnut and I am also looking to trade with BoogieVanMan, I have sweet little car for him. I am looking for the following cars. if you have it to trade or want something specific let me know I will do my best to find it for you. I am looking for the 69 impala convertible with the top down and I am looking for the 65 impala convertible thru the Impala parade.

John, nice to see you posting again! Did you read my thread "Mixed Emotions"? The reason I say this is because that shop also has a top down '69 Impala. It would be kinda hard for me to go back on my words and go into that shop again to get it though, after what I said about him last night. I either didn't know or just plain forgot that you were loking for one. Sorry.
NOTE: This was posted before I got an e-mail from the shop owner telling me that he won't lose any sleep over my absence. That Impala can rot on the peg now, there's no way in hell I'll ever step foot in his store again.

Yeah, I forgot about your "50 State" collection. I know I teased you about it, but I meant to PM you about sending you a Rhode Island car. Any particular wants, or just any ol' JL will do?
BTW, my own "Major U.S. City White Lightning Drive" foundered badly and fizzled away. Didn't receive a single one.
Trading is a very viable option for many of us diecast collectors who live in areas
where we can't or don't find many of the castings that we would like to add to our
collections whether they be Johnny Lightnings or other diecast.
Some of us do not use OFAS by choice and I happen to be one.
I have been very fortunate to be able to deal with several members of Hobby Talk.
And a few on more than one occasion.
It has always been a pleasure dealing with all of these nice people. Thank-you.
So trading has its merits for some of us here at Hobby Talk.
I've had positive experiences from both the gentlemen I've dealt with from Hobby Talk. Unfortunately the Johnny Lightning supply to my area is sporadic at best and when they do come in, they're usually well picked throughand trading isn't very easy. So I get to be the Hobby Talk leach... A special thanks to everyone those who've made this a positive experience.
