Last night when I posted the results of my casual poll, Bobby questioned some of my selections and criteria.
I went back and reviewed and have decided to re-post with a more scientific methodology:
I split the poll into two:
Poll #1 is regarding the price increase.
Poll #2 is regarding the trinkets.
Each poll will allow one choice and will give numerous options from both ends of the spectrum.
Since this is only a core group, and what I would call "Hard Core" JL Collectors, I think it is a representation that is actually softer than what the actual collecting community/Joe Consumer would tolerate.
Before I vote, may I ask what type of price increase is coming, and how do we think it will translate on the retail side? By that I mean, are we talking a quarter a car, or a 25% increase, or what?
If it is minor, I probably won't change much, just buy what I like, and look for sales.
I`ve already been questioning every car for about 14-15 months now because of gas prices. If there is a price increase it will keep me more confined to the castings I already collect and less willing to collect new castings.
I would probably do with what I do with my Jada purchases. I only buy one of each casting. I probably wouldn't buy duplicates unless the car really looked cool.

I guess I have a few opinions about the topic of JL prices and the validity of these polls. So for the record, this is merely my opinion and not intended to be in any way objectionable.
For starters, The topic of JL prices has been a hot button for a notable, vocal minority, on this board for as long as I’ve been reading it. I don’t think this will change. And just to be clear, I seriously doubt anyone here wants to see JL prices go up. And, I’m sure everyone here would be happy to see the prices go down. Is it the intent of these polls to illustrate customers don’t want to pay more? Isn’t this something we all already know?
With regard to the "trinkets", I personally wouldn’t care if they discontinued their use. But I doubt it would result in a price reduction. I don’t really think they add that much to the overall cost. They probably add value, visual appeal on the shelf, for little added cost. We can agree to disagree on this one.
Currently, I can buy JLs at multiple locations for $2.99. Although other brands are priced at $2.49 at these same stores, I think the quality of JLs warrant the .50 cents price differential. I also noticed the SIKU cars listed on your site Dip are priced at $2.50. Do you think they are of equal quality as the JLs? I don’t have any in my collection so I guess I can’t honestly say. But if you want to pick the best example you can find and send it to me, I would be happy to make a comparison. I’m confident I can cite many differences to justify the .50 cent price difference. I’ll pay for the car and shipping. Include that VW Beetle and Camper set too, #1629. I like them, even though thay are priced at $10.00
The only diecast cars I have that I would rate as equals to JL's would be some of the 100% HW's and Biantes. Those cars, especially the Biantes, cost at least twice to five times as much as the JL's.

Hello Atencio,
Not to push again a hot button here and I promise this will be my final word here on this thread...
By your statement, I would submit then that some folks also use slanted comparisons to justify (or attempt to make folks feel better about forking out more of their hard earned coin) about paying higher escalating prices on their Johnny Lightnings.
Fair enough, then I suppose it could be also argued (again, I'll dig up that beaten horse) likewise as well then why say some RealToy, Welly and many Motormax cars cost far, far less than Johnny Lightnings do (.59c vs $4.29) while maintaining many, many similar quality attributes (save for wheels and metal bases). Again, I understand folks here might not like the fact that this fact is brought up here, but still this can't be disproven or shirked off either in as much as your comparision.
Lastly though the few folks here like myself who have long complained about prices may be few in vocalizing their opinions here, I think what is VERY interesting is told by Dip's polls themselves (here, on this board where a year ago would have been way different and such suggestions bordered near heirsey) the growing numbers of folks who are now willing to pay less if minus the trinket junk and less packaging fluff in lieu of JUST diecast instead. Interesting how the times change...
I guess that is what inflation and re-prioritizing your family budgets will do sometimes...
I aggree with Atencio's statement on the HW products. Look at what they are charging you for "Holiday Rods" and then look at the JL Holiday Classics. My personal choice is JL's. More car variaty than the Hot Wheels 5 cars and 4 colors of each. Of course we paid $1 less as well for the JL. So I think here is where personal chocie will come into play, and I think more folks will see the JL's provide a much better detail, more accurate replica, then what you see on most other 1/64 diecast. :-)
I am not sure just how the price increases will play out in the end. As of yesterday the talks about disconts were lively.
I do think that you will see a price increase for ALL diecast and for that matter MOST toy lines sometime in 2006 at every level.
Those of you who remember the last time oil was this volatile remember 1973 Hot Wheels and the effect it had on Barbie and GI Joe.
The raw cost of goods in China are climbing at a crazy rate. By crazy I mean 9-20% depending on the production run and the use of metal vrs plastic in a line.
Look at HW classics with a 13% jump in price for 2006.
I don't think the price list will show that big of a jump in the JL line. the way it seems like it may be passed on is in the freight and or discount process.
I would not be surprised if JL and for that matter most of the $2.99 items climb to $3.29 at the mass sometime in 2006. The mass will hold the price as long as they can. The Holiday buying season will be a major factor in the pricing from mid 1st quarter and forward once the Xmas sales figures and bottom lines are in.
When we (1StopDiecast) send our emails out I consider .29 cents a car for inners of 12 a substantial increase for our clients.
