Galactica - Boomer ID?
So, in watching the Galactica miniseries yet again, I noticed an interesting discrepancy regarding Boomer. As we know, Boomer is really Sharon Valerii right? Well, not at the beginning.
During the poker game, Starbuck jokes that first Helo is "...flying with Brooks, then you're betting against Starbuck." BROOKS? Boomer reacts appropriately to confirm that Starbuck is referring to her.
Then, as Boomer has her first liaison with the Chief after she makes a bad landing with her Raptor, she complains about a bad gimble. He grabs her and moves to kiss her and says, "Shut up Sarah."
So, Sharon Valerii started the series as Sarah Brooks. Wonder at what point they decided to rename her and why.
Also, has anyone compiled a site which charts the numerous homages seen in the show, Whether it's a ship, set or dialogue, there are so many references that go by so fast. I'd love to see them referenced with comparison photos.
Looking forward to season 2 in a month.

I don't know about the "Brooks" thing, but what Tyrol says when he's stripping Boomer's clothes off is "Shut up, Sir", not "Sarah".

Have you turned on "closed-captioning" to confirm that these were the words spoken?

Just watched the scenes w/captions on:
Quote:
Starbuck: Oh, Helo. When are you gonna to learn? First you're flying with rooks, and then -
[Boomer hits Starbuck]
Boomer: Heeeey!
Starbuck: Ow!
[Starbuck and Boomer laugh]
Starbuck: And then you're betting against Starbuck.
|
And the other scene w/Boomer and Tyrol:
Quote:
[Groping and grabbing each other in a frenzy of passion]
Boomer: The gimbal is broken
Tyrol: Shut up, sir.
|
So, there you go. Straight from the DVD using the captions option. I seriously doubted that Ron D. Moore would have screwed things up that badly in his own show.

When I first saw that scene, I assumed that she was talking about rookies...I see I was right.

It's all good, dude. I've made worse mistakes on mis-hearing lines. 'Course, mose of those were back in the VHS tape days where you couldn't just click on the "Subtitles" button on the menu. And yet, I've still managed to assume I knew what was being said even after owning it on DVD - and still forgetting about the Subtitles option....

FWIW, I'd kinda assumed that Valerii was an homage to Valerian, the title character of the french sci-fi comic. Valerian was one of Luc Besson's inspirations for the story and style of The Fifth Element as he read the comics as a boy.
No doubt, it could also be a ref to Lt. Valeris from ST:TUC, but then I thought her name was an homage to Valerian as well.
That's how I see it anyway, I could be wrong.

Of course the Valerian marines were a group of Kimball Kinnison's soldiers in the old Lensmen books. Peter vanBusKirk being the main Valerian character.

valerii
Is there a Valerii in Greek mythology/history? I assumed such when I heard the name Thrace for Starbuck.
