the black paint is done , I put some 96 impala SS rims on it
the next thing is to add the old carburated 454 :)
I hope to get it all hooked up and driving soon .

this truck started out as a craigslist rescue
it was going to be scrapped
if it wasn't sold by the weekend when I seen it.
when I found it it was just a rolling body in black primer.
I had to rescue her from the crusher

That red El Camino looks great! I take it from the looks of things part of the Impala convertible restoration involves rebuilding/replacing the motor? [I'm basing that on the fact the front end looks like its sitting really high like they do when the motor has been removed?] Overall, it looks like it's got good bones. You do have your hands full with all of those projects, though, it looks like. Fun!

yes Duncan the running 348 tripower engine is in my garage ,
I am going to a basic rebuild on it and detail it while I have it out.

Duncan it does have a 283 and pg trans in it in the picture for now ,
just so I don't have to push around it to work on it.
it sits high because it still has all the 348 big block springs in it
and the 20 inch wheels and tires I put on it..
thanks corvair jim !!
when I seen the paint on the 67 pu I knew I wanted to paint mine just like it.
so I started with the 2 basic colors first . after I have it drivable il do the flames.

thanks Milton !!
and big thanks to corvair jim for the pix enlarging !!

lum this one is too modern to make look like a rat rod .
plus i wanted a truck this body style for a long time.

now for my 50's cars n trucks that's a different story.
older cars n trucks make much better looking rat rods
than modern stuff does.

I've never been a fan of the Rat Rod look myself, but I saw a worst-case scenario of Rat Rod-itis a couple of years ago at the Maple Grove (PA) Super Chevy Show... a 2011 Camaro built as a rat rod, complete with dented and rusty bodywork! You've seen that Maaco commercial where the teenage girl gets carsick just from looking at her date's car? I felt the same way!

I painted the door jambs two tone to match the outside while I was at it . I also put a new hi output chrome 1 wire alternator on to make things ezr.

I detailed the whole engine compartment before putting the rad support back on to make it much ezr to work on.

I repainted the power booster with gold hammer paint after this engine picture . and I put a bigger new chrome air cleaner on with a washable filter ..

I still need to glass bead the vintage calcustom aluminum finned valve covers before I put them on.

I put a couple hundred miles on it so far with no problems ..

thanks jim !!! great to see it in the bigger pictures .
my friend back in phila had SS rims on his truck like this and I all ways liked his truck ..
I guess that's why I wanted this style truck for years .
I blacked out all the red overspray on everything under the truck too ..
it makes it look cleaner now .

thanks lum !! I built this to tow my heavy duty 20 foot car trailer.
with a old school carbureted 454 with no overdrive that I had in stock
I really wanted to lower it but the parts costs too much for me.
and I don't think the wheels will clear the body if I loaded it down too much.
I am still a kid just A 58 old kid . almost 59 .
this was a really low budget build using as many parts as I had in stock.
it was a V6 5spd from the factory. I got it with no engine and no trans.
but it did have 3:08 gears that I like a lot for all the highway driving here in nc.
