I have a 2011 Craftsman riding mower lt 1000. It has the intek 18 hp motor briggs and stratten 31H777-0202E1. The motor threw the rod almost through the block. Can this engine be rebuilt, new block maybe, or do I need to replace the motor. If I do. what briggs and stratten engine would be a easy replacement as far as the pulleys, wiring to the rest of the mower and fitting under the hood? Thanks for any help
Yes, you can get what's called a "bare block." And also a short-block. And also a complete replacement engine. I've attached photos of that information.
I assume your date code is higher than 08xxx as you state it's a 2011 model. But you must check this aspect if you order the block, you'll notice the cylinder shield varies upon the date code (DOM) - you never know how long a unit sat before being sold. If it's higher, you can re-use the old shield.
I URGE YOU TO HAVE A PRO look at it, as the camshaft may be cracked, and other damage we're familiar with may have occurred. When a catastrophic failure such as that occurs, rebuilding can be a gamble if things aren't inspected thoroughly for consequential damage.
P.S. Are you in Chandler, AZ? Been there twice, didn't ever see grass on anyone's property unless they had money and an irrigation system - costs money to grow grass in the desert, and obviously more money to maintain it!
thank you for your reply. I will have a pro look at it .But I now know the right replacement motor if need to replace it. Maybe it won't cost too much to rebuild the old one.
Yes I live in Chandler since 1984. Love it there other than the heat. I have no grass in my yard there. I do have grass at my cabin in Pine AZ.
