I have an old craftsman riding mower #917.254241. I have saved it form the junk pile. I have the motor runing great, the deck seems fine, but it wont pull. I don't know much about the drive line, but when you depress the clutch it is very eash to push down all but the last inch or so it tightens up like it should. The belt seems loose with the pedal up or down. The mower has set up the last 5 or so years. Can some one help me with what to look for? Thanks for all the help. David
Have you checked to make sure the belt has not jumped off a pulley? May also be a spring broken. The belt has to also be on the proper side of the idler pulley. Have you looked at a parts diagrahm on the Sears website?
I have the owners manual but I don't understand the pics. The belt and pulleys are in the right place and all the springs. But nothing seems to move when you depress the clutch. please help and thanks for the fast reply. David
