i have a honda engine that is a vertical shaft on a billy goat brush cutter. having issues with an oil leak and compression. i did a compression test and got a reading of 60 psi after 8 pulls and would not go higher. i removed the valve cover to check valve clearance and roughly 3 to 4 ounces of oil came out of the valve assembly. i do not see any visual crack or any thing in head gasket nor in the valve cover gasket. i did look in depth and found some oil coming out of the lower right hand port that goes to the valve assemble. did not know if you had any ideas on what to look for in this issue. any help would be nice.
    can send pictures if needed.

I have a Kohler XT engine (the retired one, 675 IIRC) with the autochoke system. The problem is, is that the engine does not seem to be creating enough vacuum for the diaphram to open the choke at cold engine temps, you let it chug along for awhile and the metal spring on the muffler gets hot enough, it of course opens the choke, and runs great. I replaced the diaphram assembly, but of course, that did not cure it. Have you ran into this and found a cure? I've thought about drilling the hole bigger in the head and carb, but my understanding of vacuum is that would actually make it worse and create less vacuum due to the holes being bigger and the engine not being able to compensate for it. ANY thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hello, I have been working with a Stihl 025 chainsaw that just seems very balky no matter what you do. So far I have replaced the coil, carbuetor, plug and gas tank breather tube. The saw will start and run on high idle but seems unable to accept any throttle at all. I have made attempts to adjust the carb settings on both high and low adjustment screws but it seems to make no difference. The fuel is fresh and clean. It has a new properly gapped plug, Carb settings are about one and a half turns out on the high side and about one turn on the low speed side. As the screws are turned with the engine running, the engine seems not to change its running pattern or RPMs. I am going to take a look at the muffler to see if is clogged in any way but then I will be out of ideas. Can you help?

    Update on stihl 025 chainsaw
Last time I wrote you you advised me to get a carb rebuild kit for my saw which I did. Now I can get the saw started but it is very hard. I may be flooding it but when I remove the plug, it really is not that wet. I applied heat to the plug and it did start easier but even when running at a good cutting speed under no load, it will just die and is almost impossible to get started again. I looked at the plug and it may have a weak spark so replaced it with one that seemed to have a very lively spark.
I seem to be running out of things to check. carb adjustment is according to the book. There is no high speed adjustment on the carb. fuel mixture is correct, it has a new coil, everything else seems to be proper. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello, I am wondering if you can help with a stihl 025 chainsaw. Earlier this year, I tried to use the saw and was getting no spark. I replaced the coil with a "made in China " new coil. The saw will start and run but once you attempt to bring the rpms. up to cutting speed the engine dies. There is no high speed adjustment screw to work with and the carb has been cleaned out, and the gas is fresh and correctly mixed at 50 to 1. Could this new coil be breaking down at higher rpms? Any help would be welcome

Hey Ken it's David. You have given me some advice in the past. I would like to know if you have any ideas on this.
I have a china knock off engine 139cc vertical shaft walk behind mower that wont run without the choke on.
I tried three different carbs. Checked the timing. Replaced the plug. Cleaned the fuel system. Replaced the fuel line. Plugged the vacuum hose to the fuel tank vent valve. Vented the fuel tank. Re-jetted the carb. went from about a .020 to .038 main jet. It will stay running at a high RPM poorly but wont run lower. It smooths out somewhat with the choke on. It just sounds like it's got a big vacuum leak to me, but the system is so simple that I can not see where it would be leaking from. There is the carb. a few gaskets, heat shield, then goes straight into the port which has one hole for the vacuum hose. I don't see anywhere else to look. Any ideas on what I can try, I'm up for anything. Thank's I'll look forward to hearing form you. David
