With much anticipation this past Friday night was again time in Oshkosh, Wi for Revolution Raceways 2nd Annual New years eve race. For a new twist, and for the first time in over a decade, Wisconsin again has an indoor dirt oval to race on! Some of us took to the well groomed hard-clay surface faster than others, and several notable marks were set to shoot for as the other drivers will continue to get their cars up to speed over the coming weeks. There was a stellar initial turnout of 52 cars broken into 12 heats for two rounds of qualifying instead of the planned three due to the fantastic car count. With a bit of something for everyone it was very encouraging to those of us that have been waiting for a home dirt track for some time now. I'm sure that everyone in attendance had a fantastic time as we all brought in the new year having fun with all of our friends and it was an extra special start to the new year for the top three finishers in all classes who took trophies home as well for their hard work.

I'll apologize in advance for not listing all the A-Main lap counts as I know a few records were set in the mains, but due to a file error the data was lost.

There were 6 racers who took to the new off road surface which was worked in and around the new flagship oval track this evening with TQ honors going to Zac Rose with a run of 18 4:08.81

After the bumps and jumps were cordoned off we got to the business of breaking in the oval and leading off was the Gearbox EDM class. TQ Honors were taken by Nick Rank with a very respectable showing out of the new Custom Works Intimidator GBX car with a 54 4:03.27 As a side note Nick ran a stock motor in the first heat after a miscommunication and still won the heat and technically has the Gearbox Stock EDM record at 52 4:02.27 (I believe Nick went and laid it down with a 60 lap run in the main to set a track record for EDM's but can't confirm due to the lost main results)

1 NICK RANK
2 ZAC ROSE
3 BOB MAZZA
4 JESS SOWERS
5 TEAM DANGER, DAVE

By far the largest class of the night was the Stampede class with a healthy turnout of 17 racers requiring for a D main to be run! On the whole this class is a great example of a great way to start out racing with out needing to take things to the high tech level. TQ honors went to Jim Lewis with a run of 48 4:01.51 and Jim was the only driver to go 48 laps in qualifying, but it was Joe Rehbein taking the win in the A-main

4 TEAM DANGER, EMILY

The outlaw sprint cars on the new oval turned out to be the biggest handful on the tricky clay tri-oval as all the drivers were working on setups to try and bolt the power to the track. TQ honors went to Nick Rank with a 59 4:03.48 who after having a wheel depart in an untimely manner in the first heat proved to be untouchable on all four wheels for the rest of the evening and won the main in convincing fashion.

* Dave was scored in third and took home the hardware due to a promoters option in the A-main results

The stock trucks also had a very respectable field with 10 drivers vying for the top honors with the TQ spot going to Dan Ernst with a run of 48 4:02.29 but the A-main honors would in the end be claimed by Jason Rehbein

2 SHAUN ZWETZ
3 AL GRAHN
4 JOE REHBEIN
5 TEAM DANGER, DAVE

That brought us to the only class where the track truly seemed to be a super speedway. The Mini-T class had a solid turnout with 7 drivers taking to the oval. Despite the small size the Mini T's got around the hard clay as well as their bigger brothers and the TQ honors went to Jim Lewis with a run of 49 4:00.39, but the last laugh went to Bob Mazza who's EDM bodied Mini T won the main.

4 LARRY FLECK
5 LINDA LANT
6 JESS SOWERS
7 CHRIS HARTMAN

And putting the finishing touch on the evening was a class near and dear to my own heart. We couldn't let a new oval go untouched by the venerable 4wd Mod Wedge class on principal. Despite rumors and much discussion of more cars turing up it was a match race exhibition with just two die hards racing and doing their best to put on a show of what a wedge car could do. TQ honors went to Brad Ferks with a run of 71 4:03.19* While we were running 4wd Dominators, for a change of pace I threw a Pro Comp Intimidator down for the 71 lap run. The best run with a 4wd was a 69 4:03. Either way two very fast runs were in the books to set the overall track records for the evening with a fastest lap time honor being shared at a 3.1 second lap which was done repeatedly by both drivers around the hard-clay tri-oval in both both a 2wd Intimidator, and the venerable 4wd Dominator.

2 NICK RANK _____DOMINATOR

Again thanks to everyone who participated, and the fantastic group up at Revolution Raceway for their hard work getting the track prepaired for the evening and their willingness to take input to make this the best track possible. I can only hope for their continued success with the new oval facility!
