I'm trying to find out if anyone has a "fix" for the sensitive button on this charger. I can rotate it to the proper setting, but when I press the button, the value changes. I have to keep cycling through the menus until I finally get the proper value to stay entered. Very frustrating.

I sent it back once to Competition Electronics while it was still under warranty. They returned it to me with a message that they replaced the encoder. It seemed to work better for a while, but now it's back to it's same old tricks.

Does anyone have any idea how to correct this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

I would contact CE again, they have some of the best customer support known to man.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll contact CE and see what they say about a repair. I hate sending it back again, but the jumping settings are really frustrating.

Thanks again.

Fl Flash - Will do. I plan on contacting the repair/customer service department using the email address that Tres gave me above. I'll let everyone know what they say. I will send that mail today or tomorrow.

Stay tuned!

Ah, but how long has it been on the shelf???
I bought one about a month ago and haven't seen these problems.

They have an improved wheel now. I sent mine in for the fix and it works great now.

Looks like everyone was correct about Competition Electronics' customer service being top notch. I sent them an email on Sunday night and received the following response today:

"Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the email about the problem with the rotary switch. I looked into the situation and found that your switch was replaced with the same manufacturer part. Since then we have switched (no pun intended!) to a different manufacturer with a better part. There have been no problems with the new switch so if you would be willing to send it in again, I will install a new one at no charge and update your programming at the same time. I am confident you will be satisfied with the performance of the new one. The other option is that I can send you a new switch to install yourself if you are comfortable with circuit fabrication work. Let me know what you would like to do. Regards, Jim Bailey"

oval24 was right about the new switch and Jim Bailey says he's confident that the new one will work fine. Jim's also offering to replace the switch and update the programming at no charge! Sounds like a good deal to me! I have to use it this weekend for a race, but I'll have it shipped out to CE the following Monday.

Thanks to everyone who responded, especially to Tres Leonard for listing the email address.

I told Competition Electronics that I posted this question on HobbyTalk, so they know I've gone public with this. If anyone else is having this problem, I'd suggest using the email address from Tres above and contact them for your situation.

I'll close this thread once I've received my repaired charger and given it a test! I'm looking forward to a good, consistent unit!

Thanks again to all.

Kevin

I changed my switch in about five min. It is very easy.

I was tempted to just ask Jim to mail the switch so that I could install it (I've done circuit board work for many years), but since he is also offering a software upgrade, I decided to send the unit back.

Thanks for the input, mcsquish. Maybe some others reading this thread will elect to install the switch themselves. Your advice gives them a vote of confidence.

My unit is going out on Monday, January 10. I'll let everyone know when I get it back.

Thanks for the interest!

To All - Well, I can finally close out this thread. I sent out my GFX 35 for repair on Monday, January 10 and received it back on Thursday, January 20. That's pretty fast service in my book! The unit came back with a new encoder and updated programming - all at no charge from Competition Electronics! The encoder works perfectly and the settings stay put- no more jumping around - it's great!

To those of you who are experiencing the problem, contact CE and make arrangements to send your unit back. You won't be disappointed!

I guess this thread should have been put in the "Product Support" section originally but I thought a user might have a fix instead of the factory. It turns out the factory will repair it for free!

I'm singing the praises of the CE service department! If you need fixed up, give them a call or send them an email.

Thanks to all who helped get me straightened out!

Kevin
