View Full Version : Best Motor lathe and why???
Carpet Assasin 12-28-2004, 04:03 PM What would you guys say to be the best motor lathe on the market today and why???
Thanks for the help, I need to buy a new one and dont really know which one to buy?
Thanks, Mario.....
OvalmanPA 12-28-2004, 05:49 PM Still say the Cobra Pro 2000 is hard to beat. Simple.........yet effective. Do go the extra expense and buy the one with the diamond bit as it is a much better deal than buying the diamond later.
jflack 12-28-2004, 06:45 PM .............
ShortHanded 12-28-2004, 06:49 PM Fantom Team Factory Lathe, pricey but simply the best available.
Mark #10 12-28-2004, 07:07 PM Gotta Agree with Shorthanded. Bought one this summer.....and I am VERY Happy with it!!

Carpet Assasin 12-28-2004, 07:07 PM Cool,
Thanks guys Im not in the market just yet for the lathe, but will be someday, and I wanted some imput on what everyone is using these days?
burbs 12-28-2004, 07:31 PM hudy.. nuff said.. or the cobra og mod lathe is the all time best...
big daddy brad 12-28-2004, 07:55 PM not made anymore but the twister or a fantom
kgbracing 12-28-2004, 08:52 PM i'd have to disagree and say that the reedy is the best of all time.
my order based on what i hear out here on the left coast
insano:
reedy
fantom team
hard to beat:
twister (the reference)
hudy
good:
trinity
cobra
kgbracing 12-28-2004, 08:53 PM oops didnt put reasons.
reedy cuz it cuts so smoothe and has realy big adjustment wheels
fantom, because its so accurate
twister: cuz EVERYONE knows its good
hudy: umm duh all hudy machine work is good :)
trinity / cobra: cheap, work good, nothing wrong just nothing exceptional. well the trinity switch is nice, hudy has one too :)
Carpet Assasin 12-28-2004, 08:57 PM where can I find the reedy lathe, or is it discontinued?
GareySmiley 12-29-2004, 01:30 AM Not in the market. Huh? Got to watch out for those omish.
kgbracing 12-29-2004, 04:55 AM where can I find the reedy lathe, or is it discontinued?
LONG discontinued :( since, man, like late 90's or so.
if you're looking for a new lather the fantom is awesome if you can afford it. otherwise next up on MY list would be hudy. but if you need something cheap dont even begin to look past the trinity, its plenty good, and really cheap :)
Carpet Assasin 12-29-2004, 09:35 AM Yeah Gary us omish need to update every now and again! HAHA. ( to bad im not omish ) Moving on! HEHE Yeah im not sure what lathe I want, just needed some info and things, I guess as long as it true's (SP) good than thats all I need? Oh well thanks for all the help again. I will probally go with the fantom someday if I do buy one!
Roadsplat 12-29-2004, 09:16 PM I agree with jflack. I have this lathe and it works very well. I don't have the diamond bit but the cut is so good I don't feel I need to spend the extra cash on the diamond.
ILTim 12-29-2004, 09:54 PM Speaking of diamond bits, where is the best place to pick one up at?
Do most of the lathes take the same style bit? I am using an old trinity.
bulitbill 12-29-2004, 09:59 PM Best and most reasonably priced is the Orion quick-set, easy to set up, holds the set and is very accurate.
bulitbill
I also have the orion and I love it, works great. If I had the cash and they were any good at the time, I would have gotten the fantom but they were cutting wrong and were having trouble with the machinst making them.
Carpet Assasin 12-31-2004, 06:04 PM do you know if fantom has fixed the problem????
ShortHanded 12-31-2004, 07:28 PM Assasin ygm...
Carpet Assasin 12-31-2004, 08:27 PM Thank you !
Looking at getting a new lathe either the fantom or the hudy. What problem did fantom have with the lathe, just curious. Thanks Mike
OVAL4EVER 01-11-2005, 03:57 PM has anyone heard anything about the new integy lathe that is somewhat similar to hudy's executive, ato lathe? price is nice.
