I watched the movie "3" on ESPN last night. This is a movie I really didn't want to see made because I was afraid they wouldn't get it right, but it's like a car accident, you can't help but look. I have to say it was a lot better then expected.

Good points- I thought the casting was great! At times I could imagine it really was Dale, the guy who played him really must have studied his mannerisms and such. I thought the boy who played Dale Jr was great as well, the schene out in the woods where he gets mad at his daddy, he really lokked like Jr when he's mad. And Kerry, although there wasn't much on him I thought he was porteayed pretty well too.

Bad points - The early years were expanded on well but the end seemed rushed, it was like an hour and a half of early years and then 1/2 hour of modern age stuff. I would have liked to see more on the talladega crash, his friendship with DW developing, Dale Jr coming into racing, and of course more on Kerry.

So what did anyone else think? Good? Bad?

It should have been longer, 2 hours is not enough.
Before I get into more of my own perspective, here is a write-up I completely agree with:

Actually with commercials it was more like 1 hr and 40 minutes running time.

Casting was good. DW and Dale were friends at the end and that should have been shown. Dega crash should have been expanded on also (I agree) . A scene with him getting pulled out at Indy and then the next week qualifying #1 at the Glen and running the whole race would have been nice.

Should have been a mini series. At least 3 parts. Would have been more complete.
The ending was nice.

Yep as a DW fan, I was disappointed thet they left him portrayed as"The Mouth" and Sr hating him... the only clue they gave to the friendship was at the very end when you heard DW say " I hope Dale's alright".. but again you had to know it was DW talking

Not a bad movie, but very lacking in many areas

I liked the movie, even if they never mentioned his '75 Charger. :(
But why just a made for ESPN movie?, I think Dales bio was worthy of a major Hollywood silver screen effort!
Maybe thats coming.

Yep, I thought it was a nice little movie. Jr. made it a kinda fun to, first shy and then sorta rebelious, it could have been longer and alittle more detailed. Fitting ending to :)

I think it was preety good, could have been longer but they had to do it within 2 hrs.but what else could they do . I dont think they could make the Earnhardt family or RCR Racing happy if it was 4 or 5 hours long the only one who even talked to them was Jr. and he did not say how he liked or disliked the movie only that the fans might like it. i think that is pretty sad i would love to have heard him say something better. but still a fan anyway and SR. fan forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
