View Full Version : Region 8 oval champ's @ Hobby Plex
MURDOCKRC 12-16-2004, 11:38 PM Alright guys, it has been a while since we had a region 8 race on a big fast track. Gather the troops, tools & cars and haul yourselves to Hobby Plex in Omaha Nebraska March 4, 5, 6th. This track measures around 179ft for stock 19 turn runline and around 184ft in the mod goove. Lets show some support region 8 and be there for what should be a great weekend of racing. You can see the Hobby Plex web site link at my R/C News Wire Section at Murdock R/C Website that is linked below. START YOUR ENGINES ;)

SLOWPOKE 12-17-2004, 12:04 AM Thanks for the update Rob, the fall two day race at the HobbyPlex was just great and the spring Regional should be fantastic. Looking forward to some great racing that weekend
Jim
I'l be working on the troops from Iowa and see if I can generate some interest.
I know that if can just get them there once it wouldn't take anything to get them back for a 2nd race, just ask Mike Ryan.
What a facility.
AJ

SLOWPOKE 01-25-2005, 11:59 PM Thanks for the correction AJ, must have needed my glasses to see the date clearly, if fact maybe they would help me during the race. See you at the HobbyPlex.
Jim
burbs 01-31-2005, 09:16 PM a few of us sfrom region 5 were thinking on going.. since we have no regional race.. but the 5 minute thing is a curve... we have never and dont run 5 minutes... roar races are suposed to be 4 minutes per there rule book.. but i guess the way roar has been lately.. thel let 5 minute races slide... i wonder what motor rules will be changing before the race..
I don't think that you will ever notice the difference whether you run 4 or 5 minutes. I have raced there in the past and even running 5 minutes, still have 140 second left in the battery at 30 amp discharge.
Besides it gives you more time to make up for mistakes and I make plenty of them.
MK Race 02-01-2005, 12:51 AM AJS, are you going to run any brushless or just 19-0?
I have my 2nd car going now and should be running 19-0 at the next AJ's race. I do have the brushless system too, 4300 and 5800.
I have already entered 19-0 and brushless 4300 as well for Omaha. We've ran the brushless 3 times as Vinton and have had a blast. Great 2nd class, no maintenence at all and setup and driving really show up. Still messing with the gearing and not sure what is the best.
We will run both at the 2-day in Vinton in March as well.
Mark #10 02-05-2005, 01:54 AM Can we get our ROAR Membership at the track?
Looking forward to the race!! 3 of us from Dubuque Plannin on making the trip over!!
Any info on hotels?
Thanks!
 Mark
MURDOCKRC 02-05-2005, 02:11 AM Roar memberships will be available at the track for the weekend guys.
Burbs, you wont know the difference in stock 5 min. Hey, we were running 19 turn 5 min. until the first of the year. Talk about screwed up. Those motors are not meant for that one. I still have one track that wont change. You can make them do it but it is a fine balance to find speed and finish as strong as you need to. I still havent got up to where I need to be in 4 min 19 turn. But well keep plugging away at it.
Rob @ Murdock R/C & Performance
philb1 02-05-2005, 07:12 AM PLEASE, touring cars use the same motors with 2 more cells for 5 minutes.
Come to the track and have fun, if the rules are not to your liking, don't go.
ROAR sets rules and guidelines, all tracks do not follow them for sure. Keeping the local racers happy is up to the club or track operator, not ROAR.
MK Race 02-05-2005, 11:22 AM Difference between 4 or 5 minutes. 1 more minute I have to keep my eyelids wide open. Real wide when racing with Phil!!!!
BallisticBill 02-06-2005, 04:06 PM OK, There is less than 30 days to go till the ROAR Region 8 Carpet Oval Championship Race at the HobbyPLEX in Omaha. So let's get fired up and really promote this race. This is one of the best facilities around for oval racing but it will take us oval guys to make it happen. Enough said about the rules. Everyone should know what the rules are just so the same rules apply to everyone. So who is going to make the race and what Class? I'm in with 19 Turn open.
Stagger2 02-06-2005, 06:26 PM I'm in, Brushless and stock. Just got done spending a butt load of money (Phil check is made out and ready to hand to you lol) to get ready for this race. If any of you need bodies painted, hit me up this next weekend and I'll getter' done for ya. I'm really looking forward to this race, just wish I had more money for a couple of new cars but I'll deal.
Chad O
ddpierson 02-07-2005, 10:38 AM Hey guys there will be a few KC boys making the trip. I will be running 1/10 Brushless, 1/10 Mod and 1/12 19 Turn. So if anyone can give me some setup info so that I can Pre-setup my car before I come up I would appreciate it. Track looks great, can't wait to run on it. Thanks
There are several from Iowa planning on attending. I'm running 4300 brushless and 19-0. It is a great facility and I've been working hard to promote this race.
I think there are still some that can be persuaded to come and run at this terrific facility.
I'm really looking forward to this event and meeting a lot of different racers and making lots of new race friends.

philb1 02-07-2005, 09:21 PM Sorry Chad, if you no longer want the brushless system let me know.
burbs 02-07-2005, 11:47 PM Keeping the local racers happy is up to the club or track operator, not ROAR.
Im not bashing the track in any way... Im not against weekly 5 minute racing.. if that is what you choose thats fine.. But if you want to hold a ROAR event, you should follow all rules tot he T.. thats is why they have them... If you ever hold a nationals, do you really think they would let you run 5 minutes?? 90% of the country runs 4 minutes.... Every higher end race i have ever been to runs 4 minutes.. every single one...Going back to 4 minutes as the rule states for one event, is not going to make the locals mad...
It for me is about following rules.. thats is why i like larger events... Roar has been doing noithing but rule changes as of late... there have been many deviations, and changes in the last two years...
as for touring cars, running 5 minutes... Roar rules state 5 minutes for offroad and touring.... they run what the rule states...i never said pan cars could not do it.. Its the set rule i would like to see Roar stick with...
philb1 02-08-2005, 07:29 AM No hard feelings here Mike.
ROAR is in a tough spot with keeping racers and manufacturers happy. Some of the rule changes are hard to enforce.
Hope to see you in DeKalb, would be glad to have you at the regionals here.
MURDOCKRC 02-08-2005, 10:30 AM Mike, dont let the 5 min thing stop you guys from coming over. There are going to be other problems long before that min. comes into play. The brushless class is kinda cool but what is going to stop someone from simply changing the sticker on the motors and running a 5800 in limitied mode in the 4300 class, and 19-0 is just a can of rattle snakes really. Even though it will not be a sanctioned class that is still a sleeping giant with the things that can be done to mess with the motors. That is why they outlawed 0 degree in many places. I personally dont think brushless should not have been sanctioned until a better way to tech them was made available. Just come over, race a sanctioned class and have fun. Hopefully teching will be done to some degree and we wont have any problems. This is all about having fun but there are always a couple that will toy with the gray area or out and out cheat if they can. Hopefully Hobbyplex will make everyone there race by the same set of rules and this event will turn out great. I am one of those that agrees with tear down for every tq, track record or whenever the track officials see fit. BUT THIS MUST APPLY TO EVERYONE. Lets just do it and not have any problems. Hobbyplex is a great facility and the track is awesome. Let make it fast and fun for all who attend.

Stock is being run at 5 min and I know that isnt what some of your want to see but contrary to what was said above, I would like to see as many drivers make this event as possible. It has been a long time since we have had a regional event at a facility such as this. Lets all make it as big, fast and fun as possible. Anybody needing any track information email MURDOCKRC@AOL.COM and Ill be happy to give you measurements to get you started in the right direction.
Good tire combinations for each class below that should do the trick
Stock: Purple/Blue RF, gray LF, white LR, 2 gray RR
19 turn: 2 pink or purple RF, Pink LF, Pink LR, 2 Pink RR. The stock combo has been good as well
Modified: 2 pink or purple RF, Pink or gray LF, Pink LR, Pink or 2 pink RR
Hope this helps you get started
If anyone needs tires or parts get them now because there is no oval equipment at the track. So unless something changes between now and then it would be a good idea to have spares of the common breakers. Good luck, hope to see everyone make this show
Rob @ Murdock R/C & Performance
ddpierson 02-11-2005, 09:37 PM Can I get a list of approved 19t motors that are Roar approved for Region 8 Oval race. I want to make sure that I have the right motors before I come. Thanks
ddpierson 02-12-2005, 04:22 PM I found the answer on the Roars website..
8.8.2.1 19T Modified oval motors may be based on any ROAR-approved modified motor
combination (can, endbell and armature).
philb1 02-13-2005, 09:33 AM Great turnout yesterday for the Oval, one more weekly race before the Roadcourse Regionals Feb 25-27.
Oval ON! for March 4-6.
ddpierson 02-13-2005, 02:59 PM I'm there Phil. BTW Do you know what 19t motor will be legal for the race? I'm a little confused right now on what is and what is not legal for Roar 19t oval.
MURDOCKRC 02-14-2005, 12:18 AM To my knowledge, the road guys are running the locked timing camelion based motors and handwound will not be run. Someone correct me if Im wrong but hobbyplex runs what the rule book reads as super stock and they are calling it 19 turn. I can see where the confusion would come in.
FroBoy 02-14-2005, 04:03 AM There are two different set of rules for oval and roadcourse 19t.
Oval is pretty much open to any adjustable timing motor as long as it is based on a previously approved mod motor design that doesn't use p-94 brushes and doesn't go past 36 degrees of timing. I believe it must have a tag on the armature, too, but I left my rulebook at the plex, so I might stand corrected on that one.
Roadcourse uses the locked endbell motors that are based on already approved stock motors. The motors listed on the website are to clarify the situation for the roadcourse, cause nobody was sure what motors were going to be ran.
You oval guys have it made, since you basically get to run a modified motor with a 19t arm in it. It makes things much easier. And don't let the name confuse you, super stock and 19t are the same thing. I like to call it super stock because it sounds cooler.
As far as the 5-minute thing goes...I see your point. When we hold a national at the plex, we'll have to run 4 minutes because it would be too hard to get a rule deviation.
ddpierson 02-14-2005, 10:43 AM Thanks guys. That clears it up a bunch. I guess I was thinking that the rules for roadcourse and oval were the same. My bad...See ya in March
FroBoy 02-14-2005, 11:17 AM Word. See you there!
mullins 75 02-14-2005, 06:43 PM This race is shaping up to be one heck of show! I'm Counting the days!!!!
jake86 02-15-2005, 03:56 PM This race is shaping up to be one heck of show! I'm Counting the days!!!!
I would like to say the same.

scott2899 02-16-2005, 12:08 AM 86racer,on the tire combo. for 19t is it the same for 1/12 and 1/10th or just for 1/10th?
MURDOCKRC 02-16-2005, 12:44 AM OOPs I read your post wront Scott. The combo for 1/12 have been much the same in 19 turn 1/12th. I was thinking stock when I made the orignal post below. Sorry about that
Most 1/12 stuff I do is in the pink, dbl pink, purple class. Reason I would assume is because we are still pushing the same horsepower through smaller cars and much smaller tires and the white, gray class rubber just doesnt have quite enough bite for that. That is not to say it wont work but locally we dont run enough 1/12 and I dont run it to say with 100% certainty that one is better than the other. I had to run stock in 1/10 before the first of the year because nobody would run any 19 or mod. So, My Dad, Sister and myself worked with tires more than anything to create the least rolling resistance and speed at the same time and this is what we came up with that was the fastest week in and week out. I have quite a few that like that combo in 19 turn as well wether it be 0 degree or open timing. But for stock, that has been really doing well across the country right now.
I have a combo special going right now as well. It includes: 4 MR/C tires (compounds of choice), KCR stock or 19 turn, KCR 4 cell battery (I only have top numbers) for $110 for the stock motor combo or $119 for the 19 turn combo. Saves you around $20
Rob @ Murdock R/C & Peformance
FroBoy 02-16-2005, 02:32 AM The 12th scale 19t class is going to be big according to the pre-entries.
hyperdriver 02-16-2005, 09:47 AM Hey Alex how many for stock??
FroBoy 02-17-2005, 02:42 AM A lot.
I'm thinking this is one of the largest oval events around here in a very long time.
Saw the shirts today...They look great!
ddpierson 02-17-2005, 12:57 PM Do you have a count of how many have pre-registered so far?
Mayhem Racing 02-17-2005, 07:04 PM 8 Oval racers from the KC area for sure.
Whats up Dan???
MURDOCKRC 02-17-2005, 08:55 PM Lets hear it racers. Who is coming and what class. Roll call time
