Okey dokey Gary I'll go first. I run on a large outdoor asphalt oval with about an 360 or so foot driveline. Banking is minmal at best and some parts of the 4th turn appear to be almost flat. It's a foam tire track also so which body in your lineup would you recommend?

The PF brand hd Monte carlo is the body of choice for most. Since the track is basically a superspeedway with long straights and sweeping corners I feel some speed is left in the car with the HD configuration. Of course the fastest guys are using the High downforce bodies but they'd be fast with breadboxes too.

I'm asking in relation to use on the standard oval chassis's in use by most and not the touring oval cars that seem to be gaining in popularity in other areas.

http://www.angelfire.com/music5/g_ramos/HWapr2004.jpg

Here's a fisheye view of the track. It's a true oval with two equally long straights and both ends are the same radius. It may not be the largest in the country but it's big and up until 1999 it was clay from about 1986. Alot of your old rc-10 oval lowering kits were used back in those days. Good to see you're still around.

Hi David-

Thanks for the question...glad you found us again.

Similar to Nascar, we are making all our Cup bodies pretty much the same except for the nose shapes, which are also getting more similar every year. The terms, "high downforce" or "medium downforce" are pretty much buzz words used for marketing purposes. In RC racing, it's almost meaningless since we have so many more aerodynamic devices, and adjustments to those devices, that the full size Cup cars don't have to balance the handling.

The most important thing to consider is proper clearence on the tires. I can't think of any reason to push any more air around the track than you have to, so I would recomend using the narrowest body as long as you have fender clearence with your particular chassis, especially on a high speed track such as yours. Today, unlike many years ago, there are a wide variety of front chassis widths being produced. To accomodate that we have designed our bodies for those varieties. Our 03 Pontiac is 7 1/2" wide at the front wheels, 04 Dodge Intrepid is 7 5/8", 04 Monte Carlo is 7 7/8" and the 04 taurus is 8". That should cover any Pan Car out there.

All of the bodies mentioned are based on scale appearing proportions, not distorted "thingie" bodies. The only exception to that is our Dodge Intrepid HS body, which was developed for ultra high speed tracks such as velodromes, since normal rules don't seem to apply there.

Any of our Nascar bodies can work excellent with a few adjustments in the wing and spoiler area. Each different body we make has a niche somewhere in the country that everyone there swears by. So, you'll have to be your own judge, but I'd start with the proper fit for the first criteria in choosing a body.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi Oval Racer 2-

We do not have detail decals available for the Nastrucks at this time. The paint mask provided has areas for the grill and headlights. On the display model we painted those areas black and cut shapes to fit from scrap headlight decals. We used the chrome monocote trim sheets for the cross bar.

Thanks

Ok got a few questions for ya. What whould u recamend for around 180-190 foot track. Whould 1/10 scale monte carlo work good. And how well dose the silverado work. And what is better between the two?

And can ya give me a price for them 2?

Protoform makes a Reg. weight and a light weight body. Where would your bodies fall in the weight area. I normally run the light weight ...in 4 cell stock evey once matters... I too race with Dave Butts at the big track. Also when will you have a order online function on your web site????

Gary-
We were looking at the 04 MC mounted on a buddy's Hyperdrive the other day and wondered about the way the rear of the body flows around the rear wheel well. He's running a short 10 inch wheelbase and the body meets the front side of the tire very well. The issue is that in the rear it really tapers off so that a substantial amount of the rear tire is visible from a rear view. Instead of being able to "tuck" the rears up inside the body, you have to oversize the rear wheel cutouts so that you're not grinding on the body in bump. He's never noticed this with the protoform bodies he's run in the past. Any thoughts or comments?

I think this forum is working great! More answers...

Regarding choosing between our Nascar bodies for different tracks... I think the difference in handling between our bodies would be very subtle and could only be determined in conjunction with your individual chassis set up. You should choose based on brand preference and "size fit" for your chassis.

We form all of our standard Nascar bodies from .030 Lexan. We've found that to be best for durability without paying a weight penalty. The only exception to that is our Dodge Intrepid HS body. It was developed for high speed Velodrome tracks and is formed in .040 for more rigidity at very high speeds.

Rear edge of tire exposure doesn't seem to be a problem aerodynamically and reflects the look of full scale Cup cars which is what we try to do. You'll notice our bodies tuck in behind the front wheels as well, just like the big Cup cars. I've noticed some RC bodies with the rear fender panel extending almost to the ground. Definitely not a Nascar look. We indicate a high trim line that should keep that rear fender panel from being a problem. Tapering in at the rear is actually better aerodynamically and we made it even more extreme on the Intrepid HS where aerodynamics are critical.

Thanks...Gary McAllister

Gary, How well will your bodies fit the Trinity Street Spec cars?

Gary McAllister
01-07-2005, 11:19 AM
Hi J Rogers

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the exact dimensions on the Street Spec car. I'm sure the wheelbase is fine, but you might want to visit our website, all the width dimensions are available for our bodies there. The width is the critical dimension for proper fit.

Thanks

Gary...

Sorry I haven't called...been really sick lately....

Recieved bodies.....will be putting them thru their paces!!!

The new Dodge body does fit cars like the KSG, Custom Works, and Hyperdrive cars if you offset the pod and shim axle over like we sometimes do to get these 4 cell cars thru the corners....

Anyone do what I am thinking....cut the body at the 2nd line which makes it lower......and raise the back a 1/16th.....to make the nose of the car as low as possible......

Frank,

I don't have mine cut out yet, but with the tape laying underneath the body it appears to be 17" from the center of the nose to the edge of the deck lid...

On another note...the DODGE HS 190mm is GREAT on the velodromes. So if you don't still have a bunch of the old VELO bodies from the past that were horded up...GET ONE OF THESE...

Slider

17.4" From front, to end of deck lid. Body is cut out.

Hi Frank-

The Dodge Charger is Pretty close to 18" to the rear bumper. Depends on where you trim the rear as to the actual final length. Not sure if that was you we got an e-mail from today with the same question.

Slider- Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Joe-

How's the old Encino Veodrome holding up? I remember Dan and I put buckets of Bondo on the cracks there in the late 80s for the early Thunderdromes. I'd love to bring some of the Arizona racers there sometime. For RC racers that have never seen a velodrome, it's a real mind bender when they first see it.

Thanks

The New Dodge Charger is awesome in 6 cell!!! Qualified 8th A-Main.....finished 2nd!!!

New Dodge Charger was a good in 4 cell too, but chassis program bites for me at the moment....Finshed 2nd B-Main.....54 laps with evil chassis problems!!

But one of the local fast dudes had one on his Hyperdrive and loved it.....said it was like the old Pontiac....and was a solid 2nd in the A-Main but a battery puked on him.......

So guys......take my word for it.....this body is hot......REALLY HOT!!!!!

Gary,

Actually the velo is in the best shape of it's life. Just last week the track crew did some concrete repair and patch work. They have a NEW clean transition from the track to the Apron and most of the huge bumps were removed.

They have a 1/4 million dollar grant from the City of LA to refurb the track which isn't enough to resurface in WOOD...so, after 3 years they decided "The HECK With Wood" and they are Spending the money to improve the place. NEW Surface coming in the next few weeks hopefully...and in the months to come...ONSITE "Real" Bathrooms.

We had a GREAT race Saturday...lots of Carnige in the mains, especially the SPORTSMAN MOD "A" Main...but it was GREAT to shake off the dust and Hit the HIGH BANKED Superspeedways...

I'd say out of 52 entries...at least 40 were running the McAllister HS Dodge bodies...

Just love the Monte Carlo body and getting ready to put a Charger body together just waiting for the headlight decals. Why don't you sell the decals with the body in the first place. I have Toyota Truck body but when I detail a body I like to have the headlight decals and you don't make any for the trucks at all.

Even though they don't run the Pontiac anymore in NASCAR why, and how much longer are you guys gonna make the 03' Grand Prix. Sure appreciate all the nice comments and feedback.

Bar26- We have no plans to eliminate the 03 Pontiac from our lineup. One of the advantages of a small business like ours is being able to give personal service and do one-sy two-sy orders. Hope the Charger works well for you, we've been getting good reports all over. As I mentioned we have the Charger detail decals available now. I think they turned out pretty nice. Hope everybody likes the Goodyear half circle stickers for tires on each of our detail sheets.

Gary,

Sorry to criricize you on your bodys. But there is someting that I have to say about your mini-t/18t late model body. It looks like it started to be a body for a 12 scale car and you just used that for the 18th scale trucks. The "greenhouse" is too long, If it was shorter we could just cut a couple of inches off of the back and leave it open but we cant without cutting into where the backglass comes down.

Hi Bar26-

We actually have had a Dodge Ram Nastruck planned for some time, but the Toyota and Silverado just snuck in there. We'll do the Dodge as soon as we can.

Sqeeker138-

The Mini Late Model was a tough one from several points of view. I knew there was no way to make the proportions really work out right due to the dimensions of the Mini-T and cover the wheels, so I originally wasn't going to make it. Everybody kept asking for one so I did the best I could proportionally, with the hopes that someone would eventually make an extended chassis for it. It actually looks pretty decent on the 18T. Just a little fudging in the rear and it can get there on the Mini-T. As far as starting out as 1/12 scale, it's just the opposite. It is designed for the Mini's, but turns out to my surprise that it fits 1/12 scale pretty good.

Thanks

why not make a body with a small greenhouse similar to this custom works body. The proprotions would be a little more forgiving and looks good too.

Sure appreciate the suggestions. We'll keep them in mind for any possible mold revisions or future bodies in that area. The idea on the Mini-Late Model was to have a contemporary Late Model look. Again, the proportion problems for a Late model is really that the stock Mini-T is too short for the track width. The body has been very successful in sales, so my guess is that alot of the chassis' are being lenghthened. You might want to start a separate thread to discuss making the Mini-Ts longer. I'm sure there are some good ideas out there.

Hey Gary...I race on a short tight small flat track....The track is a little hard on the bodies.....I have been using protoform Regular weight bodies because the lightweight one rip kind of easy...On your 2005 Charger....Can you pour the mold a little thicker to get a
stronger body...Please let me know if this is possible......Thanks......Rick....Also..
does the charger come with window mask....

bud,

Do you run a full size FOAM bumper on your front end?

I find using the foam, and making sure it's shaped to the body and actually pushing slightly on the body really helps body life...this along with a third body mount under the center of the hood area. Keeping the wheel wells from breaking due to excess flex.

Bud3738-

Can't tell from your question if you have tried our bodies or if your question is based on your experience with other brands only. We all do things a little different so you might give ours a try to see if it holds up any better. Joe had some good suggestions to help durability also. Yes, our bodies come with window mask and our Taurus, Monte Carlo, and Charger have detail decals available also. they are pictured on our website.
