View Full Version : Turbo 30 motor amp ????
RACERX1 11-30-2004, 10:43 PM i have a turbo 30 and on the motor run mode on the amps is higher better or lower amps better my monster stock has low amps like 3.26 and my other moters are running 7 to 8 amps i will be running 4 cell 1/10 pan on my 6 cell gear box my matrix gold motor was pulling 8.89 amps and it was pretty quick but i havent run a 4 cell car with good batterys for a while.
thanks

Kitestir 11-30-2004, 10:59 PM 3.26 is way to low for amp draw. That is about 1/2 of what they START at........
KenBajdek 11-30-2004, 11:01 PM When using a Turbo 30 for tuning your best motor more amps = more power! Watts= volts X amps. Assuming that you have no binding or extra drag on the motor shaft or bushings. Monsters usually run more amps than the Green motors and the Gold motors. Most guys use 2 volts to check the motors. Its kind of hard to pick different types of motors by using only the amp draw. Its usually better to compare like motors with the amp draw. Gold motors(P2K) make the most torque and lowest watts than the Green (Green Machine) has more watts and a little less torque and the Light Green (Monster) the most watts and the least torque. Each can make the total racing package with the right gear and be equally as fast.
RACERX1 11-30-2004, 11:21 PM thanks guys
the monster stock is brand new and still has the crappy brushes in it and i havent cut the com on it yet. thats the first thing i do to the motor before i run it. a guy i used to race with in elkart showed me that trick back in 1999 his name was ken. the reason i had the amp ??? was i set up a computer power supply to run my motor lathe and tirer truer and checking the voltage out i found one that puts out 15.71 volts and i thought that would be plenty to run the turbo 30 which it is but it shut down when the motor got up around 7.5 amps and i quit messin with it and was checking my turbo 30 out on my reguler supply and i thought it was strange that all my motors had high amps. but im glad i didnt fry my turbo 30
thanks

mcastor11 12-01-2004, 12:17 PM WOW, I quess I got a good P2K motor, Its drawing 10 amps at 2 volts.
BrentP 12-01-2004, 01:05 PM Most of my monstors are pulling 10 to 11 amps @ 2.00v on my T30. I've even had one pull over 12 amps & shut my T30 off.

RACERX1 12-01-2004, 01:30 PM Most of my motors havent been rebuilt in a while with the brushes I run I was getting about 8 runs on my green machines then they would drop off but I havent raced since 2001 and that was at Zachs old track in fort wayne downtown. My monster stock is brand new bought it at summit in 2003 I think
I still have brushes from 2000 that are new that i run in my motors.

erock1331 12-01-2004, 03:23 PM Good Monsters with good brushes pull about 9.00-11.00 amps at 2 volts no fan.
I have had one over 13.00 amps but the motor was suspect, sometimes it ran on the track sometimes it didnt so it went into my practice line.
Dockboy19 12-03-2004, 11:10 AM While a motor could pull 10-13 amps its still not right. There could be drag or other factors in it. Another important factor that is over looked is efficiency. A motor with 10 or 13 amps will crap the bed pretty soon so dont get your hopes up. Usually if a motor runs 10 amps with out a fan @ 1.5v there is something wrong!
RACERX1 12-03-2004, 05:12 PM I used to use my fantom dyno but when i raced back in 2001 I didnt use it other than to see if a motor dropped off. when I tune my motors I do the same thing all of them and play around with the springs the first thing I did was cut the com and re brush it even if it was new and I agree with dockboy on efficiency. the reason i had the amp ??? is that in 2001 i hadnt used the turbo 30 that much and now i want to use it more now
thanks RACERX1
Dockboy19 12-03-2004, 05:44 PM I would rather have a motor that draws 8A alll the time than one that barrels out 10 or 12 A. Over time the Amp draw goes down, due to the comm getting dirty and a million other factors it seems like. Peace of mind is to consitently get motors that are within the same range as frustrating it is!
BrentP 12-03-2004, 06:00 PM The one I have that pulled over 12amps was killer on the track as well. On the Fantom it dyno's around 68 power .96 torque & it runs like it. Most of the time though, when they draw over 11amps, there is something wrong with them.

RACERX1 12-11-2004, 12:25 AM Thanks guys
for all the info on the turbo 30. finely cut the com on my new monster stk i put reedy 767 brushes in with green spring - red + tweeked a little on + also. I also drilled a cavity in both brushes #42 drill bit the first 30 sec amps hit 12@3volt after 60 seconds amps dropped down to 11.6 I shut down let it cool a little tryed running @ 2 volts didnt like the way it sounded and motor was a little warmer let it cool and went back to 3volts and ran it for 2 minutes and the amps settled out at 9.5 so now im gona see what runs like on the track.
RACERX1
PS. on real cars to break in my small blocks after a rebuild after everything was checked out (timing carbset coolent full and cam bearings broke in we took the car out and at 30mph mash the gas and run it up to around 75mph then let off the gas and let it decell back to 30 and do the same thing 5 or 6 times this way and it was broke in didnt have to baby it ever) so on my motors 2 minuts or less is all the breakin they get then it on the track
