Do you Dead short them, or keep them in a tray all week???
I kept a pack in the tray all week, and thought it ran better than the dead shorted ones.
Anybody else???

Hi Bret,

Been there done that ... and experienced no gain.

I beleive that, when comparing equivalent packs, none can perform better than a properly deadshorted pack.

I have a battery care section at www.tqcells.com (http://www.tqcells.com) that explains in details the do's and don'ts (based on my findings).

3 easy checks for proper deadshort...

You can solder on the wire when...

- The pack is still in the tray (no brainer ...)
- All cells are very low in voltage (like less than 10mV per cell)
- The pack is at room temperature (watchout! Overlooked by many...)

Sorry, my mistake. Brad had posted something about getting a car from someone... it was the Jet, not Steve. My bad.

I run the first race of the triple crown series in my home state and picked up a A-main win with TQ cells. Thanks a lot Steve!!!

One quick question, How soon do you guys go to deadshorting new cells? Mine have been cycled 3 times and wasn't for sure about deadshorting so soon. Any recommendations?

thanks in advance,
Brian

I recommend to deadshort the packs just as Bojo said it.

It won't hurt the cells even if you start deadshorting them after a few cycles. Just make sure to keep doing it once you've started deadshorting them.

I build them and then tray and dead short themI treat mine just like this. Also after a race day, the next day, I tray all of them & deadshort them again. I let them set deadshorted until the next race day. I have some mod packs on the way that will be taken down to .9v per cell & left (no deadshort) that way till the next race day. I have found that deadshorting doesn't sacrifice a lot of runtime, but when running mod, you need all you can get. I have tried a lot of different battieries but always ran best with TQ Cells.

Racin Steve Questions

1. Is it better to dead short the pack (properly) the same day you race it or wait a day ??

2. What is your S.O.P. on race day when you unsolder the wire and get ready to charge?
A. Immediatly put on charge?
B. Let the pack sit for a period of time before putting on charge?

Thanks in Advance
Wade

I found that if you don't dead short the packs but on the day of the race put your pack on a tray for about 45 min before you charge it, ( so it's like dead shorting the pack for 45 min) then charge it. That works good for me and it seems to have a lot of up front power and does not drop off.

I found this works great for 19t races.

If you let the pack sit too long (like 1 hour) you increase the risk of getting a false peak (even with the long lockout feature enabled).

This is how I treat the packs I get from Steve:

1) Store them on a velvet pillow under a glass case, with a lock on it.. They need to be comfortable but secure.
2) Occaisionaly treat them to dinner, a movie, maybe even a day at the spa.
3) Make sure they are powering a worthy motor, such as one with a "P" and flames on it...They hate being wasted on junk.
4) Treat them better than you treat your mom or your kids.
5) When they start to feel homesick, send them back to a week at "Steve's Summer Camp" for relaxation and rematching.
...If you are good to your cells, your cells will be good to you.

Todd, sounds like that could get a little expensive. lol but with these last cells i got i'll make sure i treat them like gold!!! and you know that my packs only power a motor that begins with the letter p. now only if i could get the car that begins with the letter c. i got one coming but i still want the one i ordered from ya when you get it. thanks, Brad Sousa
