I am currently looking into starting a buisness and currently my options are a hobbyshop/track, or an speedshop. I love all types of cars RC and fullsize so I know I will enjoy either.... which makes my decision much harder....

I have been into RC for 14 years, 2 years prior to getting my drivers license.

I am unsure if either of you would remember CEB motors and their indoor oval track in Marion PA? I do, and unfortunately they closed their track just prior to me getting my license, so I was never blessed with being able to race there. When we got into racing we started by putting out 4 markers in any clean parkinglot available just to race (my grandfather, father, uncle, myself and most reciently my brother). Then my brother and myself got into organized racing doing oval for 1 season at a parkinglot track at the hobbytown in Frederick MD, before it converted to roadcoarse. I am familiar with race structure, track layout, and what is needed to preperly stock a hobbyshop to support the track so that is of less concern to me at this time.

My main concern is if this area (Hagerstown,Md) could support a dedicated oval track. We currently have 2 hobbyshops, 1 established (hagerstown moped/no track) which mainly deals with monstertrucks and gas dirt oval products, so they would be of little competition. The other is a relatively new establishment (I don't wish to name) and they are moving out of town (30 miles away) due to their apparent failure. This failure is mainly due to not stocking the shop properly for their track and alot due to attitude and buisness ethics..... The latter is the building in which I am concidering purchasing, the current location of the track is small for on-road especially concidering the fact that they are housing the track and pits in the same room, moving the pits into the other room would open alot of space up..... but they won't listen...

Around here Nascar is pretty huge and always has been, along with the local full scale dirt track (hagerstown speedway) and I believe appealing to these people could bring in alot of attention/ new racers. Along with a well thought out low cost spec program, and a well planned and nice banked oval track I believe I could create a very good draw to support a shop/track.

If I do decide that a hobbyshop/track is the buisness that is best for me and my family I will also look into building my own spec car and spec rules that I can offer at a reasonable price so new racers don't have to drop $500-$1000 just to start racing. At which point I will probably be asking for your input on that also, but that will be the future.....

So basicaly I am asking if you could give me information, or point me in the direction to get information on what I will need to know, and anywhere I could get information on if the area could support a shop/track.

Honestly RC is my 1# choice, and Oval is my preference as there are a few on-road tracks within reasonable distance that would be competition not directly, but indirectly... Besides I love oval....lol

Thank you very much!
