I need some info on "Ovalnator" AKA Matt Olmsted. Has any one done business with him? The reason i ask is, i want to buy some thing off of him that is quite expensive $500+. He has asked me to send him a postal money order to a PO box. Need less to say i am very uneasy about sending a untraceable method of payment to a PO box. With no guarantee i will receive what i am paying for.

Also dose any one know a good way to do the exchange. With out either of us exposing our selves to a lot of risk? I just don’t want to get ripped off. But I also understand he doesn’t want to get ripped either. But since we are talking about a lot of money I cant be too cautious.

Thanks for any info you have.

Adam

P.S i would like to hear from some of the "old timers" from this board. Or at lest some one that has faced this kind of dilemma.

Honestly, a Postal Money order is the way to go. If he did decide to screw you over, it becomes a federal crime due to the fact that a Postal MO was used. They are safer for you, and for him. I usually request a Postal when I sell, simply because the funds are guaranteed on receipt of it. My bank will cash a Postal on receipt. MO's from other banks, or corner stores hav a hold placed on them. :) And just for the record... I've seen the guy around on other forums for a long time now. I don't know anything about him, but he's been around for a while. Good luck to ya.

I am just checking references. I'm a little hesitent on buying from someone I don't know. He's really firm on me sending a money order BEFORE he sends the car. So COD isn't an option for him. Anybody who has dealt with him please respond. It is very good that you are checking the references. You should do this always in my opinion.
I did recently have a deal with Matt and the product was in great shape. We dealt a couple times and he is on my list as a fine trader/seller. BTW. What are ya getting?

I am looking to buy a Switchblade 12SS. 12th scale racing just seemed to become popular again. I already own other Trinity cars so it just seemed to fit. The sending of the MO first seemed backwards to me thats what bugged me. I've always sent or recieved stuff COD in cases like this. The worst case is the sender gets the item back.

Done a couple of deals with Matt. No problems on either one. He's been around a while and I wouldn't hesitate to do more deals with him. As far as I've seen, Seller gets money first, then ships hopefully with confirmation number. Good Luck, Andy

actually postal money orders are very easy to trace-probably easier than any other, you keep your stub and they can tell you if it has been cashed or not

Please understand, I’m not trying to say he will rip me off. Not at all. Its just $600 is a lot of money to take a chance on, When I can’t even confirm his identity. All I have is a few e-mails from a Yahoo account. No off line contact info. Nothing. I could really be sending money to the Santa Clause for all I know. If I just had some solid info, So that I could check to confirm his ID. And speak with him off line, to confirm that yes this is the person I have been exchanging e-mails with. Then every thing would be great. But at this point I don’t have any of these resources. For all I know, some one could have hacked his account. And has been impersonating him. I’m not saying any of this is dead blunt true. Only that it is possible.

But when I ask for COD shipping, and I get a response of “I don’t do COD because I am almost never home” It sets off a alarm in the back of my head.

To this date, He has not provided me with any off line contact info. Even though I have given all of mine. Including my phone numbers. Maybe I’m just paranoid. But its been my experience that large sums of money, Makes people do stupid things.

I guess in the end, unless I have some way of confirming things in the real world. Then I have no choice but to tell him to keep it. And I’ll start looking for another Robitronics dyno.

Also it's over $500, therefore more than just your average theft in the police eyes.

Under $500 and you have to do small claims, over and the police will get involved.

I'm sure someone would broker it for you also...for a 5-10% fee....

i have bought stuff from him.. smaller stuff.. and his communication is pretty good.. and he's been around.

i'd be willing to manage this deal if anyone is interested.

send me MO (with his name on it),
he send me stuff your buying,
I wait till I get both.
I check... then I forward on both to the respective
parties.

all I ask for is coverage of shipping/postage and a small gracious % fee.

i'll do this outta the goodness of my heart ;)

interested? email me RCMits@gmail.com and we'll discuss more.
both parties MUST agree to it.

Hmmm... What does "almost never home" got to do with sending item COD?
Ovalnator has been on here for 3 years. I haven't had any dealings with him, but I feel that I could trust him and would deal with him. If you feel uncomfortable with sending him basically cash, then I would say find a escrow company to deal through. Even COD won't gaerinty you will get what you paid for, you might get a red brick. lol
Oh, if a postal money order gets lost then you are out the money. It's like cash.
