Finally picked it up today along with The Iron Giant SE (love this movie). Right off, just like the yellow first box, the blue 2nd season box looks much better in hand than it ever did on line. I'm also a little more impressed, but not much, with this set's additional features. Also like the first set I summarily jettisoned the accompanying no-nothing booklet.

I'm not going into work tonight because of an annoying cold I came down with yesterday. I'll use the time I can't relax enough to get to sleep to start watching the episodes.

...Just finished watching "Who Mourns For Adonis?" Man, I love the visual detail that these sets bring out. The picture was really nice as was the sound. The fabric used for Apollo's costume really shimmered for example.

And what else can be said for Bill Theiss' creation for Carolyn Palamas? Aawoooor! Hot damn!

Oh yeah, and btw, good story. :D

How's The Iron Giant SE? Sound and picture were phenomenal on the first issue but I hear this one's even better.

Yes I am probably the youngest guy here...Only 31 and never watched Star Trek...Grew up with 80's shows...Punky Brewster, Dukes of Hazzard, Incredible Hulk etc...I am trying to branch out some...I figure a million ST fans can't be wrong...

I haven't looked at it yet because I dove right into the TOS set. Watched "Amok Time" before I went to bed. No big surprises and this is still a damn fine episode. One thing I am noticing though so far. I recall the 2nd season episodes being more brightly lit and less moody than the 1st season, but so far hese early 2nd season episodes are lit in much the same way was the 1st seasons'. It could be my memory is tainted by all those years of seeing faded and washout out broadcasts. Whatever the reason it's still a pleasant surprise to see the gorgeous visual quality.

Another thing that is immediately apparent. TOS was always a well paced series, but seeing them without any commercials the stories practically fly by.

Yeah...they can.

I think Star Trek is a crashing bore. The main saving grace is the unintenional comedy resulting from a collection of B-movie actors taking themselves way too seriously.

^^ Thanks for the wet blanket.

I just finished watching it and it's gorgeous. And it still makes me grin like a fool. This is a wonderful companion piece to The Incredibles since they address similar ideas and sensibilities.

Some of the special features are interesting, but the one that really intrigued me was a proposed robot dream sequence that Brad Bird really wanted to have in the final cut. In that sequence the robot's dream appear on the junkyard owner Dean's tv set. It gives just a hint as to the robot's origins.

Cool movie. I love it. :)

Totally agree. This movie was badly promoted upon it's initial release and tanked at the theaters as a result. Having now seen The Incredibles as well, I am a major fan of Brad Bird's work.

Back to the TOS 2nd season set. There is a different feel to the 2nd season episodes and three little things stand out that contribute to it. Firstly, Shatner's portrayal is a little broader and easy going than 1st season, or so it seems to me. The musical style is also different. And lastly Scotty becomes just a little too excitable at times I think.

The second season is when Scotty discovered girls.

So if you're saying that a million people's opinions about what they like are wrong, then maybe the closed minded can apply your logic to your tastes and say you are wrong for not liking it.

Anyway, we know the saying about opinions and that other thing - everybody has one.

Ha! Try again, buddy. 22 years old, here. I discovered Star Trek during daytime reruns on summer vacation when I was in elementary. One day my Mom brought home Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and I was astounded. There are movies?!? I loved the movie, and my mom told me there was another Star Trek series as well, called "The Next Generation." Well, it didn't take long to get absolutely hooked! Been a Trekkie ever since!

Well I am halfway through season one. I really like it. Liked how an old episode called the Cage was handled. When I am done with all three seasons I am contemplating getting the boxed sets of Next Generation...Are they worth it?

IMHO, yes, absolutely. However, I cannot say that I am unbiased. I really enjoyed The Next Generation, even with the campiness of the first couple of seasons. Of course, since you enjoyed the original series, you obviously have no problem with camp! :D

. . . Grew up with 80's shows...Punky Brewster, Dukes of Hazzard, Incredible Hulk etc...

I feel for you, man!

At least you didn't have to go through the '70s. Talk about nothing much going on in terms of quantity of sci-fi--especially on TV. Compared to the '70s, the '80s were a renaissance for sci-fi.

I'm really enjoying these 2nd season episodes. My only conditional disappointments so far are "I, Mudd" and "The Trouble With Tribbles." I was never enamored with TWT in the first place as so many others have been over the years and little has changed. I find some of the humour forced or over-the-top and William Campbell's Koloth just makes me grind my teeth--it's too damned bad John Colicos hadn't been available. It might have given this story some needed edge and genuine sense of danger.

"I, Mudd" is the other let down. Mind you I find these episodes amusing and they make me smile in spots, but overall I feel potential drama was lost for the sake of humour. To some small extent it's almost a weird glimpse at what happened in TVH--start out dramatically and then turn into a humour romp.

I just finished watching two little discussed episodes: "Obsession" and "The Immunity Syndrome," both which I thoroughly enjoyed. For me this was quintessential Star Trek--venturing into the unknown with a good story, great character interplay and action/adventure that didn't rely on rubber-stamped ship battle scenes.
