OK I just got mine last night..... Im amazed at what has changed since my Magnum fm from 1991>>
But here is the question..... Changine frequencies...Looking at the moduel the crystal is actually inside of it and hidden...the instructions even state that you should not try to change the crystals inside the module...
Soo that begs the question do you have to buy additional modules with crystals already in them??? I know you can buy the SYN module but IMHO Im holding out untill first of the year when the NEW crystalless system is available..So I dont want to invest much in a syn module right now BUT would like to have a backup frequency for conflicts...
Am I missing something or is this all true??

I've found that you don't need to buy extra modules for the 3PK,if you don't want to. To answer your question: no. Just pull out the Rx crystal & install your backup freq crystal. I've ran mine this way for 6 months w/ no problems! Other racers at our track do this also w/ no problems.
Hope this helps!

On the module itself how do you install a crystal into it??? To I haveto disassemble the module??? they USED to have a hole in the side where the crystal plugged into... mine has no hole...It appears to have a plate...DO i JUST PRY THAT PLATE OFF???

Pull the "tail" out so you can extract & switch the crystals. Like I said,it won't do any harm to the radio-unless your crystals are bad.

Per FCC regulations, you are not allowed to change the crystals in a 75Mhz radio. But we all know that everyone does. If Futaba told you to change them in the instructions they would be telling you to break the law.

AHHH Ok ...it just had some BS blurb about needing a certified tech to change it....I found it odd that they left that little place there that you cna remove a plate to change it...also found it funny after looking at it that the radio actually has XTAL on it right next to where the cover plate is installed when the modle is set on the radio...
glad to hear it...I have 3 sets of good 75MHZ fm crystals which should hold me through untill the roaming frequency modules are released..
