Last night I met with Myles & Haythem from DUB Publishing to preview the new Dropstars line. Myles had two 300cs samples in the blister pack. After we went over the concept of Dropstars and I previewed some of the other cars & SUVs that will be part of the new line, one of the cars was freed from it's plastic prision. First off, the model is a nice size. As stated in previous posts this line will not be 1/64 or 1/24. It will be Mid Scale. These were Mid Scale 1/64 that equals about a 1/50th. The quailty of the paint and tampos is good. The TIS wheels are perfect and fit the car right. The interiors are detailed including a sound system. The front grill is the Strut grill that is very popular right now for the 300c. This line will have various licensed products through out the line. Even though the base is plastic the car still feels solid and not cheap. The base is not screwed in but riveted. Some collectors will not be happy with a plastic base but with the pricing at or about $2.99 I could not complain. As far as the riveted base, I would like to see a screw in base just so the customizers would be able to do wheel swaps without having to drill the rivet out and ruin the model. One other thing I would like to see, is an opening hood, trunk or doors. With the larger size, it would be an added benefit. The initial release should be 16 cars and should hit mass market around the 1st of the year. Dropstars has not forgot about us hobby guys and will be addressing our demands for more hobby only items.
Right now is an exciting time for diecast collectors. We have some much to chose from and look forward to and I will be looking forward to Dropstars. Jae

Pros: Size, Pricing, Detail
Cons: Riveted Base, Plastic Base, No Opening Parts.

Now for the best part, here are two more releases.

One last thing, these are mine own personal opinions, I have in no way been compensated for this.
If you are going to post these photos else where please give credit.

I like the cars, but I'm disappointed that the scale isn't going to be closer to 1/64.

The collector wins in this case. The car will be close to a 1/50 scale for the price of a 1/64. The larger scale models in this line will retail for $9.99 and will be closer to a 1/20 scale. I know there are alot of collectors that like cars to exact scale, prefer metal bases, etc. For the retail price of this line the collector is getting more.

I still think this is a good idea for a new breed of collectors... namely the younger ones.. and that is what these models are geared to.

I've talked it over with a number of local collectors, and most don't think the price is a big factor...as in we would rather pay a dollar more than that for a 1/64th scale car with maybe opening hood or doors...and most are not concerned whether the base is plastic or metal

also, the newer-younger collectors, will start with only these cars and they won't end up looking like giants next to the other cars in a collection, like the older-already-have-a-collection guys.

just don't try to incorporate some old muscle cars into the mix, that really brings out the anger and non-buying...keep with the Dub like luxury rides..and the young-ens will go for them!

I don't care about getting more car for the money. I want cars that look good parked next to the rest of my collection. I actually play with my cars- and there's something that isn't right about a Mini Cooper that dwarfs a Hummvee. I love that Mustang. I can't resist getting it, as no one else will bother to make it. I'll probably get the Chrysler 300C also.

A Nash Metropolitan is a small car. A Dodge Monaco is a large car. Parked next to one another, the Monaco should dwarf the Nash. Likewise, the Mustang should be the same size as the '05 Mustang Concept that Hot Wheels and Matchbox have both done.

I like realism. Some people do liberate their cars. And dang it, they're toys. They're meant to be rolled around!

Couldn't have said it better myself Swifty. I still however had to get the Nash as it is cool to look at.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions. I collect every scale. I like whats nice. The best thing about this hobby is we can buy what we like and we don't have to buy what we don't like.

From who? 50 Cent? Jayz? :p

So young kids aren't into classic cars?? Contrary to popular belief by the Dub City crowd most kids growing up today could care less if his toy cars have 22" wheels......of if his parents own a Maybach.

I still say making these things in a non standard scale is really going to ultimately hurt these in terms of sale eventually....... I mean if these are geared towards kids/collectors then you have to realize that most collectors will not change thier scale preferences.......although some collectors may make an exception for a particular model if it's of a certain car they own (1:1) or a model they collect. Most parents who shop for toys for thier kids will look at the size difference in these new cars as opposed to 1/64,1/43,1/24,1/18 and say no way..... because these cars would be the oddball......

At least that's my opinion....

sorry, TX...but this is exactly what I mean't... don't make Muscle cars with the ridiculous 22 inch wheels... go ahead and put them on the lux-o rides and that crowd will buy them...

if yer gonna make the muscle cars, put the right wheels on them...

BINGO....I agree 100%......vintage Musclecars have enough"bling" when it comes to raw flat out horsepower that you don't need to have those huge ghetto Bling wheels on them to sell.......

Hot Wheels '77 Dodge Monaco, Sheriff Patrol
Hot Wheels '77 Dodge Monaco, Jokermobile (Batman set)
Yatming, '77 Dodge Monaco
Kidco, '77 Dodge Monaco coupe
Johnny Lightning, '74 Dodge Monaco

And I've got all of the above except the Jokermobile (which is high on my want list!). ;)

Yeah, but what happens when you REALLY want to buy something but won't because it doesn't fit in? Right there, that's lost sales for the company. Most people stick to a specific size (1/18, 1/43, 1/64, etc.). Now we have 1/72 on the small end and 1/50 on the large end. Oh well, someone will buy them. I'd like to.

I passed on the Jada imports because of their size. Awesome castings- love the Corolla AE86 and second generation RX-7, but too big. And these cars will fit right into that same scale. Which is Hot Wheels' intention, I'm sure- going after Jada's market with a similar product (scale, and look at the packaging!).

The first time I glanced at the card art and the car itself, I honestly thought it was JADA. Looks exactly like their card art.

And as far as the price goes....I think these are $2 cars, at the most. Like Swifty, I like the Mustang and might buy it only b/c no other brand will make the GTR version of the new Mustang.

I wonder when someone is going to make a decent Off-road series that aren't monster trucks. That I'd buy!

Swifty is exactly right (as usual). The scale on these is stupid. Stop inventing new scales!

Either make them 1/64 or make them 1/43. I guarantee that you would sell more of them. You may catch a few kids with these cars but the majority of COLLECTORS are not going to be interested. You will get the few who just can't resist a specific model but you won't generate legions of fans. I won't buy any of them even though I think a few of them are cool, for the sole reason that they are not in an established scale for collectors.

I would say (to HW) good luck with these but I wouldn't really mean it.

wow, this is quite a post revival!
PWS... don't kno if you realized you were backing up a comment made almost 4 years ago!

..and I wasn't aware that they did an S2000 or Silvia in the Dropsters seres, I know they did them in this weird scale for the HIN (Hot Import Nights) series. Here's a pic of one of the S2000 from HIN, I believe..
