...talking about Dale Earnhardt Jr. I've been poking around with co workers, teachers, friends, family and now boards to see why the selected nascar fans like, dislike or have no opinion to him. So far i get this:

53 people polled

Like (31 people)
- he's hot (mostly from women...one man)
- he is positive about his crew
- he isnt quick to judge accidents and is quit to take blame, most of the time
- he has a laid back outlook at racing, like he does it for fun, not fame
- he always puts on a good show
- he drives the bud car
- his last name
- his humbleness
- he is a good racer
- a very nice person to meet

Dislike (15 people)
- hes popular
- hes hot
- he wrecks alot of people (when asked for examples the 4 people who supplied this reason couldnt supply a feasable incident or incidents where he did not take blame or it was a tap which all drivers use to pass with the new aero package)
- his last name
- his attitude (Jr is laid back and some see it as being cocky and arrogant)
- he is a rival to their favorite driver
- he drives for Bud and i like the High Life (darn college kegger kids and their picky taste for beer)
- he "has nascar in his back pocket" (when asked for examples the 5 people who suppled this reason, couldnt supply a feasable incident, and after discusion they decided that it usually faltered on nascars inconsistancy of rules, and unclear definitions of penalties, what constitutes a penalty, or confusing exceptions to overnight rules.
- He is all over TV commercials (i dont understand this. The Aflac duck and Geico Gecko are on ALL the time and people embrace them)

NO OPINION
- 7 people

I'm just trying to get an idea of why people like him and why they dislike him.

Now, please i'd like your input, this is actually for a project. Tell me if you like him, dislike him, or have no opinion. I would appreciate a "reason" why you like or dislike him just as a way to validate it. I really look forward to your feedback.

*** A note to my "poll", the majority of people polled did not have a distinct driver they were dedicated to. only 4 were dedicated jr fans. 9 were fans of the rival hendrick cars of #24, 48. 6 were rival roush fans

***** sorry if i spell words wrong or i use slang internet terms*****;)

OK, all this is just my personal opinion of course

I like Jr. overall

Likes:

Very Good driver
Willing to take responsibilty for his actions
Sense of humor

Dislikes

NASCAR preferential treatment - not his fault, of course
A lot of his fans are JR or nobody people, can't admit any other driver might be good - again, not his fault
.

So, as you can see, my likes are things that Jr actually can control and my dislikes are things he can't. While they do affect my opinion of him, I also realize that he can't do much about it, so it is more a cloud following him around than an actual personal trait.

Any help?

Oh, and I am a fairly serious Tony Stewart fan, but I like most drivers - just not Robby Gordon, Mike Skinner and Sterling Marlin

I'm a "Jr" fan and have been since the beginning.....was also a #3 Fan until the end!

I like him for a combination of reasons.......he is a good driver but mostly because he's straight up. He's not in NASCAR's back pocket 'cause if he was he'd have about 25 more points right now.......and he's certainly not a DuPont crybaby!!!

I really respect what you said here. Good Stuff! Thanks for participating...lets see if we can get 8 more people by next week!

BTW, good description with the "cloud that follows him". That explains it best...nice analogy.

I love when people say stuff like that.....the ONLY reason people do not like Jeff Gordon is because once he started winning, Dale Earnhardt Sr. NEVER won another championship.

Dale Jr is a great driver! I realize that and respect it, but I don't like him. Not for anything he did or didn't do, my reasons aren't his fault.

I don't like him because he's not his daddy, although he's a great driver he doesn't have the charisma his daddy had. I miss Dale Sr.

I don't like him because he gets all the fame and glory while his brother Kerry struggles. (Kerry has his daddys charisma)

So those are my dumb reasons, and I know they aren't reasons to dislike someone but I'm only human and my reaction is based on emotion.

First of all before I get slammed, let me say I like Jr. a lot. Mostly because of his driving skills only. He will never and honestly should never be put in the same class of drivers such as R.Petty,D.Sr. and J.Gordon.So if anyone thinks he should then, maybe you should look at his age compared to Gordons age and do the math. Ain't gonna happen! Just enjoy watching him race and finish his career as a better than average winner overall. His superstar status fill fade the same as everyones does, only without the 4-7 Championships. In reality I hope he wins a championship. But that's not likely, as there is at least 6-7 drivers that are as good if not better. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.I have been an avid fan of nascar 40 years and have seen a few Dale Jrs. come and go.

Hmmmmm. #1 I am a Dale, Jr. fan because I am a still a Dale Earnhardt fan. Always have and always will be. But, in the same token, I support several NASCAR drivers and not just Dale, Jr.. However, judging from the amount of 1/24 scale diecast I have of his; he's #1 on my list. I like "Smoke", Sterling Marlin, Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte, Mark Martin, etc., etc., etc.. Of course, none of these are in no particular order. But, as I see it, Dale, Jr. has no "right" to a NEXTEL Cup; it has to be earned just like his Daddy earned his 7 championships.

Personally, I want to see Dale, Jr. running in a #3 Nextel Cup car in the future.
