StreetFreak 11-09-2004, 07:08 PM I have quite a few 1:64 Boxed and carded types, and some 1:24 scale stuff in my collection! I kinda grew up at the Drags in Fremont California until they shut down, and still try and watch some of the events back East on TV when I have the time. I think that's why alot of my customs are drag types, and maybe that's why I feel I need to add LOTS of HORSEPOWER to everything I touch! LOL Check out some of the stuff I have posted on the "NEW" Customizing board and you will see what I mean. infact, here's links to a few I have posted there. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=93782 http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=94313 http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=94310 I used to really be into Drag stuff, but it's tough when you can't find others interested in them as well! I still like collecting them, and go to the drags atleast a couple times a year, so bring onsome pics of some of your favorites! NovaSS 11-10-2004, 10:34 AM Welcome to HT Nitro. Collect "just" NHRA, no. But I have gone after some of the older Pro Stocks I used to see race as a young laddie. I have several of the older NHRA 1:18's - Sox & Martin (Cuda & GTX, expecting the Duster soon), Grumpy Jenkins (Nova, Vega), Motown Missle (Challenger, Duster). maddiecast 11-27-2004, 07:41 PM nitrocollector Drag racing only over 500 cars in collection and growing fast. Almost all are 1/24. Alway's looking for older cars I don't have. I do have a few customized Muscle Machine's also 32lowboy 11-28-2004, 12:58 PM I collect NHRA too but I didnt get anything from the 04 season. I try to stick to Funny Cars but have quite a few Rails and Pro Stocks too. I like the older stuff 1320 is doing and the 1/18 cars the NovaSS mentioned, Grumpy is a favorite, all 3 Camaros, the Vega, and both Novas so far, waiting for a Z11 63 Impala ..... someday. There are a few 04s I want to get, anyone have a good source? ClearHooter 11-29-2004, 12:10 AM The models (auto and aviation) I collect are used as models for my art work. I suppose that directs my "collection." The cars, document automotive landmarks. I have had to go no larger than 1/43 with the cars. I made the mistake of using 1/48 for the aircraft. Too large, too few, too much. My dragsters are all 1/64. I have been amazed at how closely the producers of die casts have accomodated my "hero worship" of the '50's and '60's. Rails like "BeeBe & Mulligan" "Wynn's Jammer" "The Hawaiian" rail and funny "The Flying Dutchman" "Ramchargers" "Hurst Hemi Cuda" "Little Red Wagon" "The Color Me Gone's" These are the ones in my dragster "collection." The GP & F1, LeMans and CanAm prototypes are another interest along with classic and antique cars that make up the rest of the "collection." I quotate this word "collection" because these are working models not collectables. I define "models" as a "tool" just like pencil or paper. Collectables you leave in the box or look at. You play with "toys." I've also got a few Stock Cars and NASCAR's and I consider NASCAR different from "Stock Cars." As far as drag racing goes when I was in high school we used to go to "Thunder Valley" in Bristol, Tenn. I can't think of a better place to watch a drag race. The echo bouncing off those hills surrounding the strip reminded me of dinosaurs roaring. Heck of a memory. I'm wanting to get a group of friends and go back soon to share the experience. I hope they haven't changed it much. NITROMAN 10-27-2006, 09:50 PM Right here man,I've been collecting Action NHRA diecast for about 5 years.I mostly collect 1/24th diecast funnycars and Top fuel dragsters, along with a few of Racing champions Pro stock.I couldn't even tell ya how many i have.I have one Whit bazemore 1/16th scale 2004 funnycar(nice!!!)I am a big Drag racing fan.I usaully attend no less than 3 major events a year.I've been into Drag racing since i was about 10 years old. :) It is my #1 favorite sport, and always will be.Talk to ya later TableTopTrucker 10-28-2006, 01:23 AM Thought I would toss in my 2 bits on NHRA since it is prolly the largest part of my collection of diecast. I dont have an exact count on how many I have total, But I would have to say its close to 200 peices, mostly 24th from Action and RC. I started collecting them in 96 when I first started seeing them hit the race track and the retail stores. My ex wife will tell you that it became a serious obsesion about getting every single one that was being produced. This is one part of my collection that if I ever have to get rid of for what ever reason... Everything BUT the NHRA stuff will go. the NHRA stuff is never to be sold or given away at any cost as some of these peices were given to me by the drivers, crew chiefs or crew members so they hold a special place in my heart and in one case a rememberence to a driver who has passed on From 1992 to 2003 I traveled on the (Winston) NHRA drag racing series as a camera operator for TNN, Fox, SPEED and at the end of my run on NHRA ESPN and ESPN 2. Heres some pics from the collection, and a couple of pics of me at Englistown in 98 and Denver in 02 (my personal favorite race and I actually got down and kissed the mountain the first time I got there, The Mopar Mile High Nationals) Action Jim Head Smokin Joes TFD http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/Dsc01691b.jpg What I understand it the first Action NHRA diecast Don Prodomme Final Strike Tour TFD http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/Dsc01687b.jpg This car brings some pretty deep emotions up... I was one of the last people to look into Blaines eyes before his catistrophic fatal crash at IRP Sept 96. :( http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/Dsc01658b.jpg Englishtown 98 I know its a bad pic, and I dont remember who the drivers were now. http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/etown98b.jpg Denver 02, Paul Romine in flames and Larry Dixion pulling away. http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/medium/denver02b.jpg Midnightrun 10-28-2006, 08:41 PM really nice 65 nova!!!  ---Midnightrun--- 69Stang 10-28-2006, 10:20 PM Oh man, I am lovin' this thread! Thank you NitroCollector for coming on board! You have brought out the drag racer in all of us it seems! And Street Freak, the pics and work are great! Everyone head over to the custom board and see Grayhouse's newest Plymouth Pro Stock as well, ties in very well! I to love drag racing, the vintage super stock, and newer pro stock being my favorite diecast. I just have a love of door slamers, and the newer style of outlaw 10.5 cars truly make my heart skip a beat! Post more pics of everyones collection. I would love to see! Ward STUTZ 10-28-2006, 11:37 PM Gee, nitrocollector joined 11-2-04 (1 post). I would love to see more pics of his collection, but he hasn't been online since 11-2-04. grayhouse 10-29-2006, 01:35 AM Can't say that I soley collect NHRA, but I deffinently have a soft spot for 'em. Here's a few snaps of an NHRA pro stock belvi I did a while back. Man, that was a fun one to work on. BTW: Having grown up in San Jose I deffinetly remember the Fremont drag strip. Unfortunatly one of the biggest memory I still have is forgeting my earplugs one day, what a mistake that was. The pro stocks were fine, but when them top fuelers came out, not to mention the jet cars...I swear I lost a few octaves off my hearing that day :( http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/67/belvioutdrs01abg6.jpg http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/3281/belvioutdrs02abl8.jpg http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2715/belvioutdrs03anl8.jpg STUTZ 10-29-2006, 01:46 AM Nice work grayhouse! Great pics! Thanks for sharing. Ricky2400 10-29-2006, 10:22 AM I have leaned more toward NHRA "Old School" Pro-Stockers; I've built 1/64-scale replicas of Dick Landy Dodges, Dyno Don Fords, Sox & Martin Plymouths, and Bruce Larson USA-1 Chevy's; I'm currently working on Arnie "Farmer" Beswick '69 GTO, as well as "Ramchargers" and "Color Me Gone" '64 Dodges. I've posted pics previously. Rick TableTopTrucker 10-29-2006, 11:13 AM Awesome Grayhouse... Awesome.. Is the base something you put together or purchased? 69Stang 10-29-2006, 12:25 PM I've posted pics previously. Rick Yes, but you know how hard it is for a new guy to go and find all the old stuff. Please post again. I know I would enjoy them for another round! (No pun intended! :p ) grayhouse 10-29-2006, 01:48 PM Awesome Grayhouse... Awesome.. Is the base something you put together or purchased? Thanks TTT. The base is just a simple tile arangement that I put togeter in photoshop and printed out. Here's a link to the zipped master that I earlier uploaded for STUTZ http://www.mega-file.net/file.php?file=7341db71245f09d4df513eeffded53bf With a little modifing it works great for display cases as well. http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4364/belvidisplay2acp5.jpg NITROMAN 10-29-2006, 06:01 PM Yes,I collect NHRA Funny car,Top fuel,Prostock. Most of my cars begin in the 2001 model year when Action started with the detailed engines and chassis(plug wiring, fuel lines, brake lines etc). The only models i've purchased from Racing Champions is their Prostocks.I personally don't care for their Top fuel and Funnycar stuff. NITROMAN 11-24-2006, 04:01 PM I wasn't sure how to begin this thread, but it begins with a personal disatisfaction that i have with some of Motorsports Authentics current 2006 NHRA Topfuel and Funnycar products.Namely those ugly "white front wheels"they continue to apply to the most of the funnycar diecast models.First of all this peticular style wheel was only used on actual 1:1 scale funny cars for 1 NHRA season(2001),since then all funny cars used the crome cragar 5 spoke wheel,or the crome, gold monique wheel made by weld racing. The only models that MA uses the "correct"wheels on is the Gary Scelzi,Ron Capps models, which is the correct wheels for those cars.Recently MA applied those same wheels to the John Force,Eric Medlen,Robert Hight models, although these wheels are the incorrect style wheel for those cars, they do look better than the ugly white, incorrect wheels they've been applying to all it's Funnycar models for years. Now let's talk top fuel cars.Again,Action(now MA)has continued to use the same old style crome cragar, centerline wheels on it's top fuel models for years. In 2003 the actual top fuel cars no longer used the old style wheels and moved on to the 5 spoke weld racing, cragar wheels. But MA continues to use the old style wheels on a 2006 top fuel model? Not to mention the fact that if you look at the rollcage section on these top fuel models, the roll cage is actually kruked, what's up with that?I for one am tired of paying$$$top dollar for a 1/24th scale model of a peticular driver's car that doesn't exactly represent the actual 1:1 scale funnycar/top fuel dragster. One of the reasons for this post is to hopefully motivate those who collect MA's(Action)1/24th diecast to write MA and demand from them to update their products,so that they will look "authentic",like their name implies.I for one would love to see MA produce a Funnycar chassis with the correct wheels, for each make of Funnycar that they can produce as a "replacement"for those of us collectors who desire to have a "authentic" chassis for our models. The dicast company 1320 inc.produces such a product for their 1/24th diecasts, why not them?So if their be any collectors of MA(Action)Funnycar and Topfuel diecasts who would like to see this new company improve and update their models,I sudjest that you e-mail them at their website, and mention the same thing that i have mentioned here in this forum. Thanks NITROMAN 11-24-2006, 04:06 PM ...also,I feel that nothing will be done to improve the authenticity of their products untill we as collectors write them and demand a better product. If we don't,then it won't get any better, and MA will continue to produce the same ol' stuff. NITROMAN 11-24-2006, 04:14 PM Hi,I couldn't help but notice your Username,I see your name on Ebay all the time.Your always buying NHRA diecast.Your addicted to NHRA diecast like i am.Maybe you've seen me on Ebay,I'm "Ultrashrineman".I buy and sell NHRA diecast on Ebay.Just to let ya know.within a week or so I'll be selling some Eric Medlen 2006 colorcrome diecast...if your interested? 69Stang 11-24-2006, 09:32 PM Hey Nitroman, very well written. I aggree and will drop a little mail myself to MA. Let's face it, with such a small comsumer base for the drag cars, they probley have no motovation to stay current. But you are 100% correct, and they need to step up to the plate. They are more than capable. kwik 11-25-2006, 12:01 PM i'm looking for someone interested in 4...... 1/64 scale travers white/ blue racing champs blaine johnson dragsters. in original packages from i believe 1996. nobueno 11-27-2006, 02:31 PM Collecting NHRA diecast was what started me on collecting other diecast. I have a few signed John Force pieces but my prize piece is a Big Daddy Don Garlits signed Swap Rat from his museum. Jae vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
