I have been thinking of putting together an RC car. I was wondering what I should look for in equipment and where I should start. Another thing, I was wondering if they make old 50’s and 60’s bodies for them and where I could find them if they do?

Thank you

cinimod:

You should start at your local hobby shop.

You will have to decide if you just want to play around also known as "Bashing" or if you would like to race against others.

If you just want to play around, there are some good beginner kits or RTRs (Ready-to-Run) that come with everything you need to get started.

There are RTR Nitro (gas) cars and RTR Electric cars that run on batteries

There are different classes to choose from as well:

On-Road -- These essentially try to simulate real race cars
Off-Road -- Styled after dune buggies and real off-road racing trucks
Monster Trucks -- Think Big Foot and Grave Digger
Oval -- Again, attempting to simulate NASCAR
Micro's and Mini's -- Smaller versions of larger RC Cars for running in smaller spaces. Great if you have a 20' x 20' area in your yard or basement

You should also have a budget in mind so that you do not over spend. Also keep in mind this about having fun so don't blow a lot of cash until you are sure it what you want. Start off slow and visit a local track

As far as 50s and 60s bodies, check out the following sites:

www.parmapse.com
www.hpiracing.com
www.tamiyausa.com

Everyone will have an opinion, the hard part will be weeding out the good from the bad and finding exactly the right medium that will make you happy.

This hobby has many aspects from artistic to mechanical to extemely competative -- find the aspects that most make you happy.

Here is my opinion, if you are just getting started I would recommend an RTR from one of the following companies:

www.teamassociated.com
www.teamlosi.com
www.hpiracing.com
www.traxxas.com
www.tamiyausa.com (They call them expert built instead of RTRs)

Find the one that thrills and fits your budget and go have fun
