It's a strange image. Looks like "Darth Jabba" to me.
Carson Dyle 10-29-2004, 12:34 PM Huh.
Well... it almost works. It's a sound concept, but the execution leaves something to be desired.
John P 10-29-2004, 12:58 PM That's ... awful.
It's not awful...it's artistic. It's not meant to convey an image, it's meant to evoke a feeling.
There's a certain irony in guys who frequent modeling forums complaining about artistic license. Everyone's become so used to Photoshopped images that they forgot how to appreciate art as creative expression.
Carson Dyle 10-29-2004, 02:08 PM Oh, it evokes a feeling all right... the feeling that the designers did not successfully execute a tricky concept. I'm still looking forward to the film, but that teaser sheet is just plain silly.
Ignatz 10-29-2004, 02:30 PM I don't know. I recall the ep. 1 teaser poster of little Anakin still on Tatooine, and he's casting Darth Vader's shadow against the side of a building. That is more cheesy than this one.
Matthew Green 10-29-2004, 02:48 PM More cheesy than this one? I certainly don't think so...I like the Episode one poster...You could clearly tell what is going to happen...With this..It looks like Jabba is becoming Darth Vadar first and Anakin is about to kill him in the background...
lonfan 10-29-2004, 03:01 PM Well I will say ONE thing It looks like a Ralph mcQuire (Sp) Concept piece, which is fine What I DON'T like is when I finally Rented the Bonus Disc from the Trilogy Set (Yeah My Store Actually Rents em' Sep) Anyway I was kinda disapointed that the "NEW" Vader Suit didn't look any different than the Old one (well to the Casul Eye) Anyhoo I was kinda disapointed.

John, I AM a graphic artist. I do it for a living. That just isn't done very well. The concept is good, the artist did a bad job.
Carson Dyle 10-29-2004, 03:21 PM I also like the Episode I teaser; it's a strong concept, it's well executed, and the overall effect is subtle yet powerful.
I'll admit to being occasionally biased and fairly opinionated when it comes to this stuff because it's what I do for a living, but the Ep. I teaser is about as good as key art gets for contemprary (mainstream) movie marketing campaigns.
It'll be interesting to see what Drew Struzen comes up with for the pay-off...
Whiter 10-29-2004, 03:28 PM No, don't like it at all. L-A-M-E
"Darth Jabba" HA!

PerfesserCoffee 10-31-2004, 07:21 AM At first glance, it looked like an incredibly huge helmet on Anakin's shoulder: 'Dark Helmet'!
Then I saw that the shoulder connected to the smaller Anakin head in the background. :freak:
Zorro 10-31-2004, 10:09 AM I agree - good concept - very bad execution. I would think that was an early proof at best.
chiangkaishecky 10-31-2004, 11:19 AM Would it make any sense if Anakin were igniting a fart and the resulting flame was Darth Vader's visage?
Zorro 10-31-2004, 12:12 PM Would it make any sense if Anakin were igniting a fart and the resulting flame was Darth Vader's visage?
Considering the quality of the last two installments - yeah!
Zombie_61 10-31-2004, 02:07 PM It's not awful...it's artistic.
No, it's awful. I agree with the other posts--interesting concept, poor execution. Darth Jabba? Vader the Hutt?  It is a good likeness of Hayden Christensen though.
portland182 11-01-2004, 07:43 AM What's with the front grill from the flying sub?
Jim
XactoHazzard 11-01-2004, 12:32 PM As a Graphic Designer, I also think good idea, badly executed... Are we sure this isn't fan art, it looks like fan art, do you think it's fan art?

Does starwars.com sell posters and tshirts of fanart?
John P 11-01-2004, 01:25 PM Drop the N in Fanart and you get what this poster makes me think of.
Carson Dyle 11-01-2004, 03:15 PM Are we sure this isn't fan art?
Fan Art? Please! A teaser this overwhelmingly wrong could only be the work of professional designers, highly paid Art Directors, and politically motivated marketing executives.
Dave Hussey 11-01-2004, 03:20 PM John is right - very smelly stuff!

So am I, and so do I. And I like it. I won't slit my wrists to have one, but I like it.
