View Full Version : McCullough's "Indoor" Off Road!!!
glitcher 10-23-2004, 09:26 PM Yes,you read it correctly,McCullough's offroad is opening the indoor race track on Nov.6!!!
Racing to start at 3:00pm,doors open probably around noon.
Very large track with an 8 foot high drivers stand, and I was told,a very wild and fun track layout soon.
Electric cars only that day, nitro news to follow.
Keep an eye on the web sight for further details and discussions.
Of course I am scheduled to work that day,but thats only a piece of paper!
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
aljones 10-24-2004, 12:15 PM of course the November 6th grand opening is if there are no setbacks, but right now everything is on schedule. Basically, most of the major stuff is done. There is still some major electrical wiring to do and some little detail stuff, but the building looks great right now. Doug and the crew were hauling in lots of fresh topsoil for the track yesterday. It's only a matter of time now! :)
glitcher 10-26-2004, 05:52 PM Do you think a Thursday practice will happen before they open?
Still working that day, can't get out of it.Might be able to leave early though!
aljones 10-27-2004, 03:26 PM tom - keep checking the website... it's up in the air right now. Hopefully all the work will be done ahead of schedule.
glitcher 10-29-2004, 04:50 PM News and updates about the track in the forum at the websight.(All good news!)
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
Old Hippie 10-29-2004, 10:07 PM Sure seems like it been a life time since I've been raceing,IVAN did me in with 8 1/2 ft of water in my rental. If everything goes right I'll be there on the 6th looking forward to seeing everyone again even you (BRAD)Ha!Ha!
Frank
Biggins 10-30-2004, 06:41 PM i need to add that doug told me today that the doors will open at 11am on sat NOV 6th hope to see everyone there like benny, rico and dietz
aljones 11-01-2004, 11:12 PM There will be practice on thursday night for anyone that is interested. The track is AWESOME!! Killer drivers stand, great groomed/packed dirt, nice pit tables.
Also... racing is for electric vehicles only! Once the ventilation system is installed, there will be indoor nitro racing on a seperate day, but it will be a few weeks before that happens. Keep checking the website for updates...
glitcher 11-02-2004, 06:15 PM Cool!! I'll be up after work for practice.
I'm still trying to leave early for Sat.
Did you run on the track yet?
aljones 11-02-2004, 09:35 PM I haven't yet Tom... Saturday was a workday. We were still sifting topsoil and packing the track & there were a bunch of guys working on getting the pit tables wired with electricity. First official night will be Thursday... although I imagine that Doug has probably put a in a few laps by now :)
by the looks of the dirt, it's going to be a taper pin track....
RICOTHOMAS 11-04-2004, 07:45 PM Let's see!!!!!!!! All we need is Eric Pesto, Dave Mcewen, Jim Stevenson, Jeff Hyatt, Mike Mcgee, C.R. Lovell, Kenny Martin, and Mary and it would be deja vue in truck stock.
Pete Vitale 11-05-2004, 04:56 PM Track is awesome folks. Come out and race this Saturday.
glitcher 11-05-2004, 06:40 PM Let's see!!!!!!!! All we need is Eric Pesto, Dave Mcewen, Jim Stevenson, Jeff Hyatt, Mike Mcgee, C.R. Lovell, Kenny Martin, and Mary and it would be deja vue in truck stock.
MIKE!!!! WOW!!! What's up?!
Good to here from ya bud.I went to practice night,SICK traction. And the size and layout of the track is awesome.
I use Adam Drakes setup on my MF2 without the front sway bar,and I didn't change a thing from the outdoor track except tires for stock.
For mod all I changed from Drakes setup was pink springs in the rear and moved them all the way in on the tower and the arm(thanks Rosie).
Hope you can make it out to the track soon.
Opening day is this Sat,Nov 6th,Doors open at 11:00AM,sign up closes at 2:30PM with racing starting promptly at 3:00PM.
Also, awards for outdoor racing season to be handed out.
Visit the web sight for more info.

aljones 11-05-2004, 10:35 PM Rico - believe it or not CR Lovell made an appearance a few weeks ago at the fall gas race. He lives out east and made the trip out with a few guys from Johnstown to race his 1/8 scale. First time I've seen the guy in probably 10 years :)
And dare I say, this track is even nicer than Wagonhill. The drivers stand is awesome! You guys will definately have to check it out. There was even talk of starting a pro-stock truck class this winter for the fast guys... and you guys that are afraid to run mod :P
RICOTHOMAS 11-06-2004, 08:49 PM Tom, good to here from you, sounds like your sh1t is dialed. Hope I am fast also. Mfn'al, certainly plan on racin there if I ever get out of Wally-world. I have had ONE Saturday off in the last two months with no relief in sight. Gettin old. See you guys soon.....
glitcher 11-07-2004, 10:00 AM You won't be dissapointed Mike.
Opening day was great!
68 entries with plenty of pit space.
The racing went off without a hitch.3 heats and then the mains,we were done a little after 8:PM.
Stock truck was very competitive,A,B,and a C main!(No,I did not win).
On practice night the truck felt very good, but when racing against the very best the region has to offer,it became clear that my set up needs a little work.I heard from more than one racer that the track is the same as Cleveland.
All classes had many entries, sportsman, stock buggy(very good A main race),mod buggy(Dave Montgomery and Rosie kept everyone working on their setups),and mod truck, and don't forget mini"T"'s(also a very good A main).
All in all a great night of racing, our in house chef kept everyone feed with hotdogs and kraut(farting racers are happy racers :) ) along with a vast array of snacks and drinks.
Visit the web sight for results and more info, probably pictures also,I saw TR running around with a camera on his face most of the night.
Hope to see you soon Mike, you can bring Ben and Frank,if you want.(We'll put up with them I guess).
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
aljones 11-08-2004, 05:11 PM hey Tom - funny how your car goes slower when the fast guys show up. Same thing happened to me. I was just happy to make the A in mod buggy (barely).
Rico - not only did CR Lovell show up again this week, but he said that he has talked to Mike McGee recently and he wants to race again. Plus, some old timers like Moody and Dan & Dale Chronister were there. It was like Wagonhill part 2 :)
RICOTHOMAS 11-08-2004, 06:55 PM Holy sh1tballs Batman, sounds like old times. Hope I get to join in soon.
glitcher 11-09-2004, 06:12 PM Transponder's make me stupid also.
Both trucks are in pieces, changing a few things and rebiulding a few other things.
I'll wait until my trucks are dialed then I'll put a buggy together. The mini T is on hold also.
Mike,if you show up it will be "old" times
RICOTHOMAS 11-10-2004, 11:03 AM Tom, don't you mean "geriatric" times?????????????????
glitcher 11-10-2004, 10:09 PM Some people call it "Masters".
RICOTHOMAS 11-11-2004, 08:41 PM You suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aljones 11-11-2004, 11:13 PM ouch.
glitcher 11-12-2004, 07:10 PM I miss you Mike! :(
glitcher 11-16-2004, 09:37 PM Another great day of racing indoors!
Get your buts out here soon and get a jump start on your columbus setup.
Very similiar conditions.Crazy grip and getting better!
Pink tapers for the rear seem to be the standard, fronts are still pretty open to your driving style.
I've seemed to settle at a fairly stiff setup for the stock and mod MF2's,red springs all around with any where from 27.5 to 32 weight oils, still tweaking on it,but I'm allot closer.
Don't have a buggy setup yet(waiting on a BK2)but from what I've observed, they to are on the stiff side,I've seen some blue front springs and orange rears.with some wild looking tires!?
Don't miss another week!(even you Rico).
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
TopRowSeat 11-17-2004, 02:25 PM I'm building a T4 to come race with you guys.
Hope to be out there starting in December. Can't wait!
RICOTHOMAS 11-18-2004, 11:42 AM Might be comin' Saturday.
McSmooth 11-18-2004, 12:30 PM I plan to be out again after football season is over.
aljones 11-18-2004, 02:44 PM I won't be there this Saturday :(
I have a dinner to go to for my parent's 50th anniversary, so I'll miss out again this week. Hopefully, I can get back on the track the week after. You guys are getting too far ahead of me on the setups! :)
RICOTHOMAS 11-18-2004, 10:52 PM Is the new facility near the outdoor track?
aljones 11-18-2004, 11:05 PM Thomas - the new track is located up on the hill behind Doug's house. Go past the entrance to the outdoor track and up the hill past Doug's house. The driveway to the new building is on the right. You can't miss it, the building is huge.
glitcher 11-19-2004, 10:17 PM Might be comin' Saturday.
GREAT NEWS!!!
For a while it looked like I wasn't going to make,I was supposed to be moving a freind but he had to reschedule.
Hope to see ya there.
glitcher 11-25-2004, 10:44 AM This indoor thing is really working out!
68 entries,again, 27 stock trucks!!(not telling where I ended up).
Very good racing in every class, and more importantly, everyone had fun!!
Ya know, coming from a mostly carpet racing background,it is really great to have a race day where nobody is arguing,or fighting or whining,or complaining about there fellow racers, sure, things happen but for the most part people chaulk it up to "that's racing".
Thanks for another great day of racing.
Remember,if we get 5 or 6 mini T's,they are going to have a payout!! So bring em out!
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
aljones 11-25-2004, 11:11 PM Tom - no fighting, complaining, or whining? Obviously you don't pit close enough to hear me :)
Got some new go-fast goodies for my Mini-T. Maybe I'll be able to beat Luke...
glitcher 11-26-2004, 08:18 PM Your going to have to watch out for Gary and his "team" of mini "T" drivers.
P.S. You weren't racing Sat.Probably why I didn't here any whining.
MaxxMadness 11-27-2004, 11:19 PM Track sounds sick, anyone got pictures of it?
-Thanks
glitcher 11-27-2004, 11:33 PM No pictures posted yet,but they have been taken, keep an eye on the web sight for updates.
The guy(T.R.) that takes care of the web sight has been busy,he'll get to it soon.
Come on up and see for yourself,it's a great track.
http://www.mcculloughs-offroad.com/
aljones 11-29-2004, 06:22 PM yeah... TR the web guy is also a student is is currently dealing with finals and other school stuff. Once the term is done, he'll be able to post some new pics and info.
hey Tom - looks like my new Mini T parts paid off - it's getting close to being dialed. Now if only I can get it to go as fast as Brad's :)

TopRowSeat 11-30-2004, 06:36 PM When's practice?
I just need to throw some paint on this thing and I'll be ready to race. The only remaining problem will be that I've never run offroad before in my life.
I think some practice time is in order before I show up for my first race day.
aljones 12-01-2004, 12:01 PM Practice is on Thursday nights. I believe it goes from 4-10pm, cost is 5 bucks. Doors open at 10am on racedays with racing starting at 3pm. So you also have time on Saturdays if you get there early.
Yes, there is quite a learning curve at first. You'll have to learn how to drive without the luxury of carpet traction. Then there are those pesky jumps... :)
There's plenty of guys willing to give you a hand, just ask. It's cool that you're gonna give it a shot.
MaxxMadness 12-01-2004, 07:41 PM When they start running nitro's in the future, or when they did this past summer outdoor, are there some Stock Monster Trucks that run? Just wondering, thanks
aljones 12-02-2004, 12:21 AM right now it's not looking like there will be any indoor nitro this year. However, last summer outside there were quite a few guys that ran "stock" Revos, Maxx's etc. The monster class is an open class, so they run against the LSTs and Savages and whatever else shows up for that class.
MaxxMadness 12-02-2004, 05:41 PM oh ok, cool
Mike@SteelCity 12-04-2004, 02:09 AM Any indoor pictures to take a look at? I am looking forward to racing after the football season. I want to see how the MF2 runs on dirt insted of carpet. haha
Have fun this weekend!
Mike
aljones 12-04-2004, 04:40 PM Hi Mike - unfortunately the McCulloughs webmaster is on a hiatus for a few weeks while he takes care of some school stuff. Hopefully some new pics of the track will be posted soon since so many people have been asking for them. Once they are up, I'll be sure to post something here.
and be sure to bring your pink taper pins with you... we don't allow those foam tires :)
Mike@SteelCity 12-04-2004, 11:33 PM Haha... ok on the foams! Hope you have a good weekend of racing!
- Mike!
