After every twenty-something flavor of the month turned the part down, after Jim Caviezel accepted it, only to be told by the director he wanted an unknown, it looks like they may have finally found the new Superman. This was posted on IMDB.com today:

Director Bryan Singer has finally ended his quest to find an aspiring star capable of transporting Superman into the 21st century - he's settled on little known actor Brandon Routh. X-Men film-maker Singer signed up to direct Superman Returns in the summer and announced he was searching for an unknown actor to fill the Man of Steel's red boots - a role made famous by the late Christopher Reeve. And he deems 18-year-old Routh - whose resume is limited to a number of appearances in TV shows like Will & Grace - the perfect choice to reprise the comic book role, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper. Meanwhile, The OC star Mischa Barton and Topher Grace from That '70s Show are also reportedly in negotiations to play Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen respectively.

Although the report says he's 18, Routh's IMDB profile shows he just turned 25. Which means if Singer gets his casting wishes, Jimmy Olsen will actually be a year older than Superman. And eight years older than Lois Lane.

I hope this Routh looks like a MAN and not a teen like Cain and Welling! Are the G. Reeves / Guy Williams types hard to find these days?

Well, I hear that a BTVS movie might be in the works sooner or later so that'll be good anyway.

Sorry, Os, but you're going to be disappointed. This guy looks like he's barely old enough to shave!

Swell, the old 50's tv show narrator used to say ' based on the character appearing in Superman magazine '. In this case appearing in TIGER BEAT magazine! Shazam JR with an S emblem.

Doesn't look any younger than Reeve did when he took the role. So far, Bryan Singer has pretty well proven that he knows exactly what he's doing - and that would include nearly perfect casting for the two X-Men movies. No reason to believe he's suddenly lost his mind or his instincts just because this guy looks a whole lot younger to us now than Reeve did 25 years ago.;)

Sorry Os, I didn't do it intentionally. When I first heard about the casting I did a search to see what this guy looked like, and the first photos I found made him look much younger; they may have been older photos. And while I was looking for a good photo of him to link to yesterday I found quite a few, and he looked different in all of them, like they were photos of different people. Anyway, he looked much younger in some of the other photos. So, again, my apologies.

Naww, it would have to be Super Polygrip! But, now that you mention it, I did like Alex Ross' version of Superman in Kingdom Come with the graying temples.

Can be confusing I guess with the different pics. I hope to see some fan films like World's Finest by the time this Superman flick's done. Back in the 60's, a teen Don Glut made a bunch of super hero undergrounds. Bob Burns helped with one or more.
I first learned of Don in the pages of Larry Ivie's Monsters and Heroes magazine. I think Don was on a classic DATING GAME in the 70's. I lost what few of those magazines I had ages ago. They were COOL mags!
