From an August news listing from tvshowsondvd.com:

Batman - No episodes, mind you, but you'll want this DVD anyway!

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/graphics/blackpixel.gif Let's face it: we're all waiting for episodes of the classic Adam West version of Batman to hit DVD. And that's not on tap quite yet, until Warner Bros. (who owns the character) and 20th Century Fox (who own the 1966 TV Show) work out their licensing issues between each other. We hope that happens soon!

But this might help in the meantime: a DVD from Image Entertainment of behind-the-scenes stuff about the series. Holy Batmania! allows you to learn everything you wanted to know about the Caped Crusader's legendary TV show and 1966 theatrical feature with this special 2-disc set containing four main programs:

"Batman: Holy Batmania"
"Adam West: Behind the Cowl"
"Julie Newmar: The Cat's Meow"
"Cesar Romero: In a Class by Himself"

255 minutes long, this will also include Screen Tests and Presentations, Theatrical Trailers, TV Spots, Batman Wraparounds, and Trivia. Release date is October 19th. Check out the box:

Can't wait for this one! I'm definitely picking this up on Tuesday.

Looks like it's the documentaries that ran on "Biography" - which are all pretty good and which do indeed include some "rare" footage - especially the audition footage of Lyle Waggoner donning a 1940s style Batsuit. I'll probably pick this one up too.

I am happy to hear about it. Everybody makes mistakes from time to time...no need to condescend my entire state!

How can they release THIS but not the REAL show? Aren't copyright laws in effect with this DVD? Won't the Barris Batmobile and all the costumes be featured in this? If the parties can agree on this project, how can they not release the 1966 show in boxed sets on DVD?

Documentaries don't fall under the same legal constraints.

What's the difference between rare and ultra-rare?

The difference between uncooked and still-kicking.

So would I. And it wouldn't hurt to tell us WHERE you found it, too. I haven't seen one yet.

So - anything to report content-wise? Are these the Biography Channel profiles? And what about the extras?

HOLY BATMANIA, BATMAN!

I finally scored a copy of this disc set. After not finding one in local stores when it was released on Oct. 19th, I finally gave in and ordered one online from Deep Discount DVD for just over $18 postpaid.

The set is excellent! The four main feature documentaries on disc one are the ones produced by A&E and shown on both Biography and the E! channel. They are very well-produced and engaging, and it's nice to have them all together on one disc.

The real treasures, however are on disc two.

Here we have the original network presentation and promos for all three seasons of the original series' run on ABC. I found myself reciting the announcer's lines while seeing promos again that had not seen the light of day for nearly forty years. All of the subsequent syndication trailers and promos are included as well. Such fun!!!

If that's not enough, also included are the original theatrical feature teasers, trailers and TV spots, as well as the 1989 Batmania! series marathon cable rerelease intros, segues, promos, wraparounds and trivia segments. The original studio screentests for Adam West and Lyle Waggoner are also here.

What's really amazing is the quality of the original material and the transfers. First-rate all the way. I sure wish that Paramount would have gotten off their duff and included similar network and syndication material with the Star Trek original series DVD's. It would certainly have increased the sellability of the boxed sets - even for those who already had bought the single-disc releases. You know the material is out there.

The only thing that would make this release totally puurrrrrrrfect would be the following release of the Batman TV series on DVD.

If you're a Batfan, I strongly recommend that you get this.
