I am having problems with what I think is my modem
It is a usrobotics sportser external
The problem is when I go to download something most of the time it wont completely download
It will show that I am still connected but the part that shows how much data is being recieved stays the same #
My Yahoo will close out like it is disconnected and I wont be able to load any pages all I get is site not found
I have called my ISP and they say everyhting is fine I even got peoplepc's free internet to see if that would make a difference and it doesn't (now I have to try and get my brower and evrtyhting else back the way it was LOL)
I go to windows update and don't find any drivers for the modem I treid to do a driver update on my copmputer and did it where it searched the web thing and it says I have the lates driver for it
So anybody got some help for me
Thanks

See if 3com/usrobotics has a flash update utility for the modem (3com bought us robotics a while back).
Other possibilities are a modem hardware failure (partial). Intermittent line problems. The best way to troubleshoot is trying a different modem.
I had a us robotics internal pci modem that was never quite right. Replacing the thing "fixed" it. It behaved much as yours does; dropping the connection without indicating anything is wrong besides just ceasing to communicate.
You can buy internal PCI modems for around $20 these days.
(as always, scan for viruses, check for ad-trojans, bla bla bla...)

Thanks Steve
That is what I thought kind of
Where would I be able ot get a good used one or is the $20 for a new modem
I have an older computer with an internal modem but I don't know where the cd is for it How could I use that or would it just be easier to buy one
Another ? I have ad ware but that is it on my computer
Norton ran out and I jsut haven't got another disk from anybody yet. I might just have to go buy one.
What other things should I have and can you post links
Thanks again

An external USB modem (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=307376&pfp=BROWSE) is about $40.00. This requires you have USB connectivity and WIN98se at a minimum.
If you're not sure about USB, here's one (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50257812&pfp=BROWSE) that plugs into a serial port for about $35 (less rebate).
An internal "winmodem", (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50138227&pfp=cat3) a card that inserts in one of your PC's available PCI slots is about $11 new. These require a processor speed of 233mhz or better, and a screwdriver (and confidence that opening up the PC case isn't going to make you faint.
Spybot (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-2) and ad-aware (http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html) provide freeware to scan your PC for advertising trojans that often render your computer inoperable.
McAfee (http://download.mcafee.com/us/eval/evaluate2.asp) and Norton (http://nct.digitalriver.com/0001/) offer trialware (try for a couple weeks for free) of their antivirus software. Downloading these via dial-up might take too long, especially with a connection that's acting up.
But these products are worthless without paying for a subscription after the free trial period; they're effective only if you download regularly new anti-virus definitions.
If I were you I'd pony up and pay for anti-virus. Try a new modem; buy from someplace that doesn't charge a restocking fee (wal-mart (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product_listing.gsp?cat=4432&path=0%3A3944%3A3951%3A4432)?) in case it doesn't improve. Downloading spybot and ad-aware to rid yourself of advertising lice.
