Kenny@RAPTOR davepull 09-15-2005, 09:53 AM hey Steve Salvis I noticed that you are running the spectrum system how do you like it? Racin Steve 09-15-2005, 10:10 AM hey Steve Salvis I noticed that you are running the spectrum system how do you like it? Both of my cars: Keyence 2002 - dig 9650 - no receiver pack - 0 problem Love my spectrums. Steve. davepull 09-15-2005, 10:21 AM what radio are you using? also did you cut down the antenna? I here all and have seen all these nightmare problems and people saying you must run a cap on your reciever with a reciever pack then other like you no problems. From what I see on this thread, this car is gnarly as it seems. Can't wait to run it! I'll keep you posted on how it went... Al Spina Fan 09-16-2005, 05:30 AM Putting together a new CW car for a friend getting ready 4 he Snowbirds.. Lookin 4 some set-up tips. Should be here by the end of October. Im running a custom works solid right now.. Im looking at buying a second car.. Id like to run the slider.. BUT when you say end of october will this be a repeat of the initial release where you have to get LUCKY to get your hands on one??? or will there be more available.. Luckily for me when the first batch cam out Todd Putnam helped me out.. Now that the aggressor platform has gained steam I dont know if Ill get so lucky.. Just curious what the release plans are at this point..?? 100 cars again or what?? I will/would hold out if I was sure by Nov 1st Id have a car in my hands>>But I do not feel comfortable after what it took last time to get one.. Not trying to throw stones or anything...Love the car and have done pretty well with it so far.. :) But dont want to get my hopes up for this and have to wait till february to get one.. Im the only one in cincinnati running this car..I love it>>I cant get parts locally for it would be the only downside.. But Im trying to represent as best as I can for CW.. :) Sean Maxwell Mr.fastman 09-16-2005, 06:47 PM Im running a custom works solid right now.. Im looking at buying a second car.. I quit the sport in 1992 and just got back into it last year..Got the car from Putnam...I won many times in it stock...Have been competitive in 19T...BUT Locally we have a pretty strong group of guys.. I dont expect to be able to put a lap on guys like john foister reguardless of the chassis Im running.. LOL.. But the help Ive gotten from steve salavas and others had the car pretty close from the monment I got it...I think the first week I ran it I got second in the A main...week after that I won the A.. So no complaints there.. My only concern was I need another car As I plan to do a lot more traveling this winter..I would be willing to wait for the car IF I was sure Id have a chance to get one before the end of the year...Id rather hold out for the new one if the end of october date is somewhat realistic.. :) Al Spina Fan 09-16-2005, 09:24 PM Kenwood, I spoke with Arnie Fie at length last week about the same situation. Arnie and i have been friends for a long time, if he knew it was shakey on delivery, he would have told me. I told him I did not want to wait only to have a repeat of the Aggressor delay. He assured me that it will be available for halloween. Having said that, they do not have control of all the manufacturing but the drawings were complete and ready to cut graphite. I'm going to wait but on November 15th, I'll have a new car even if I have to fly to Montreal and steal it from Salvas!!!!! Al Spina Fan 09-16-2005, 09:25 PM Wait a minute, I can drive 45 minutes and steal it from Marabella.....lol Al Spina Fan 09-16-2005, 09:29 PM Kenwood, I had the same parts issue so i bit the bullet and ordered 2 bottom plates, shock braces and bumpers. Other than the chassis, i can't imagine breaking something that I can't get locally. I also got a few extra front hinge pins. BEACH 09-16-2005, 09:53 PM Wait a minute, I can drive 45 minutes and steal it from Marabella.....lol 10 to 1 he bogarted it anyway from CW!!! LOL Kenwood 09-16-2005, 10:39 PM I did the same thing on the parts...I bought about half of a cars worth...just the essentials where I knew they were cw specific.. Really thats the only issue I have with the car...I dont expect the LHS to carry CW parts because Im the LONE CW car is a sea of KSG and PRO 3 HD cars.. However I still want a second car... but I can wait till haloween or so.. ;) Hinge pins....LOL.. I gave up on those a while ago..I got some polished stainless music wire...Ive been running the setup similar to whats on the picture of the aggressor box.. And FWIW Ive had this car for almost a year now...LOL.. Not like I just got it...I think I started posting after I got mine somehere around page 7 or 8 of this thread...LOL.. I was just quiet in the summer off racing real cars.. :) Mr.fastman 09-17-2005, 07:45 AM 10 to 1 he bogarted it anyway from CW!!! LOL Phil! Bogart a setup! You must be kidding. BEACH 09-17-2005, 10:12 AM BOY I HOPE HE READS THESE!! LOL See you somewhere soon Doug Mr.fastman 09-17-2005, 02:34 PM Beach - When are you racing again? BEACH 09-17-2005, 02:52 PM In a couple of weeks, I MIGHT make the Strand next week?? (its a large MIGHT). I am still up in the air as to where I might make my home this winter? Later, jim TeamGoodwrench 09-17-2005, 11:07 PM they look like CW pins... i got some for 7 bucks.. they work good, but i had to add a .015 shim to mine cause they were a smidge to long..I like tgh e clips on them.. i also got a bag of like 20 clips for like 3 bucks.. there small clips so i would recomend an extra bag.. Hey Burbs.. I just put some of the CW pins in my new Maverick -- what are you using for shims for them ??? Thx in advance! Kenwood 09-19-2005, 08:15 PM OK stupid question>> ****I never claimed to be a good setup guy..I can build fast motors but am weak with setup so forgive the question** a year ago I kind of copied steves setup and was running it...I struggled when switching to 19T...I got some help from the guys at the track>>None of the CW guys..but anyway 1 thing they did was take my LF and move it from hole #1 to hole #2...so essentially moving the LF outward slightly>> What exactly does moving the LF in or out give you...the RF I can kind of conceptualize what it does for you..but the LF Im unsure.. also here is what Im chasing.. To make a long story short I still have a few small handling issues Im trying to clear up on the car...FOr the first 30 seconds or so of each race I tend to fight the car a little..Whats wierd is 30 seconds in the car seems perfect.. I realize some of this may be due to the double pink/ purple tire combo>>>BUT when going through the turns I notice versus other cars that mine right before/at the center of the turn seems to do some wierd weight transfering..Like I can see the car sort of doing what visually looks like a zigzag through the turn... the servo has plenty of power..or at least it appears to.. the servo saver Im going to replace...seems fine to me but just in case the spring is weak Ill replace it.. bump steer seems non existant.. Dont get me wrong the car is fast>>>Im getting the same lap times as others **However my car during the first 30 seconds is hit or miss..because Im fighting it the car is all over the map... Ill hit 3.6 then 3.9 then 3.6 then 3.6 then 3.9.... then about 30 seconds in the laps are super consistent for the rest of the race.. Id blame it on tires and switch to grey white combo BUT KSG guys are running the double pink/purples and their cars are not doing this.. Im the only one... and its all speed releated...Once my car kills the initial punch out of the pack the car seems to handle great...stock the car handles perfect.. setup as follows.. front end. LF hole 2 width prog green spring .020 droop top a-arm parallel with bottom...It has a rf arm upside down.. LF 3rd hole width..standard red spring shimmed and spaced so axle centerline matches left side**due to upside down arm on LF.. The droop is just where the arm just barely comes off..not enough gap to measure. I have the rf arm I just use the associated side which gives me the equivalent of 2nd hole from bottom with CW block.. caster rf 3 camber rf 2 caster lf 1 camber lf 1 pink LF and purple orange RF shocks center 50wt#2 silva copper spring.. hole 3 side 30wt wolfe opaque spring 2nd hole from top tplate offset fiberglass 63.. battery same as steve on page 7 rear width 200MM .. .020 on ps .. RR double pink LR Pink. LR I run ~12.00 oz on the scales.. race ready.. High bite smoooth flat track 50x 80 So far My guesses are swapping servo/servo saver>>In the event 1 of them is weak>>> then I though about dropping back down to where steve had his side shock angle>>stiffining it up basically so that it does not transfer as aggressively. #3 moving the LF back in where it was>>essentially turning it completely back to how steve posted... and #4 change tire compounds to free the car.. or #5 say the heck with it..im at least making the a-mains...be happy..lol.. Sorry for the long post but Im going nuts with this thing and am not getting much help due to no other guys around me running this car.. rcavenger 09-19-2005, 10:29 PM if the track is high bite, as you say, going to the 3rd hole down on the side shock mount could help, as the car may be rolling too much weight to the right side on corner entrance. it may be better to just go one step stiffer on the side shock springs instead, so the progression rate remains the same. Racin Steve 09-19-2005, 11:00 PM Well, first off, I'm not a big fan of pink/purple setup in 4-cell racing, but if you want to stick with this setup I'd definitely try reducing chassis roll like rcavenger suggested. Moving LF in (or LR out) will create more push "mid-out" and moving LF out (or LR in) will increase steering "mid-out". If you're in for some tire tests ... try ... 4-cell Mod (BSR) LF: Green RF: Black LR: Green RR: White-Gray Paragon Traction Compound on all 4. Steve. TeamGoodwrench 09-19-2005, 11:10 PM Hey guys... In case you missed it above -- what are you using for shims on the CW hinge pins ?? Thx. Arnie Fie 09-20-2005, 09:02 AM Kenwood: Do you have on the beefier #8012 shock tower or the #8019 brace that goes with it? We noticed on high-bite tracks with stiff side springs (red springs and higher) that the shock tower would flex some and create an unstability that you describe. Thats why the beefier shock tower and brace came about. Kenwood 09-20-2005, 09:02 AM Yes guys the track is pretty high bite.. I will need to talk to John about these mysterious white gray rears...he does not carry them at the LHS.. I have only see the black fronts once... I saw John with a few packs a week ago...Ill have to see him on those as well... thanks for the tips...guyss I need to call john now.. :) rcavenger 09-20-2005, 10:09 AM steve, i see you are suggesting the black RF and green LF...apparently you have tested the new black tire? i wonder how close it acts to the JACO black? that is the only thing i have missed since picking up BSR for a sponsor. Also, why do you not like the pink/purple combo in 4 cell? I have noticed on some tracks, esp. non-paragon tracks, that the pink/purple combo takes a few laps to get hooked up, but i was wondering what your thoughts were. P.s...good call on the shock towers, Arnie. i ran a double stacked shock tower from about january on, and immediately felt a difference...much more stable through the corner Kenwood 09-20-2005, 10:13 AM Arnie>> I have the Flimsy stock one...I got one of the first 100 kits... I often wondered about that..I noticed with the offset t-plate that the LS shock mount would flex a lot.. Would Putnam have these stiffer plates? Or just order straight from CW.. DanHood 09-20-2005, 09:16 PM HELLO CUSTOM WORKS COUNTRY, just wanted to let you all know that there is a ARCOR P.A. state race comeing up on october 29, in pittsburgh pa, it is gonna be held at STEEL CITY HOBBIES, for more information, you can go to there web site at WWW.STEELCITYHOBBIES.COM Hope that some of you will be able to attend, it is a great trac to run at.. Porksalot4L 09-20-2005, 11:22 PM WHATS UP DAN HOOD! go on the marshalls thread and post we never see you on there! it was nice seein you last sat. joe ivo davepull 09-21-2005, 07:20 PM Hey Steve i have been looking over you set up posted on the CW site. I noticed that you are spacing up the rf more than the lf so so get the same ride height on the rf and lf. my question is why do you do this? TeamGoodwrench 09-21-2005, 07:26 PM Hey guys... In case you missed it above -- what are you using for shims on the CW hinge pins ?? Thx. Anyone ??? Thx. Matt Nothstein 09-21-2005, 07:54 PM Hey Steve i have been looking over you set up posted on the CW site. I noticed that you are spacing up the rf more than the lf so so get the same ride height on the rf and lf. my question is why do you do this? I also noticed that. But what I have been doing is spacing up the LF a little more than the RF. Steve, what are you doing as a base point for spacing the front end? Racin Steve 09-21-2005, 08:26 PM I also noticed that. But what I have been doing is spacing up the LF a little more than the RF. Steve, what are you doing as a base point for spacing the front end? Using a RF steering arm on the LF (upside down) I shim the RF bottom a-arm as per my setup sheet in order to get the chassis level (left versus right). TG ... I put (1) .015" on each hinge pins ... .125" id but they work for me. Steve. team CW haysreeling 09-21-2005, 08:39 PM Sean, Just letting you know we do have white-gray rears in stock now. Hays Jr davepull 09-21-2005, 09:48 PM OK Steve see I use the steering blocks in the original form and what I found was the RF was always higher with the same amount of ride height sims as the LF. when you put aproxx .060 shims more in the rf it levels the front of the chassis out. so why do you want the front level? TeamGoodwrench 09-22-2005, 08:46 AM Using a RF steering arm on the LF (upside down) I shim the RF bottom a-arm as per my setup sheet in order to get the chassis level (left versus right). TG ... I put (1) .015" on each hinge pins ... .125" id but they work for me. Steve. team CW OK Steve -- yeah I was wondering if you had found some shims that were closer to the size of the hinge pin -- rather than the 1/8" I.D. shims. Kenwood 09-22-2005, 08:57 AM Sean, Just letting you know we do have white-gray rears in stock now. Hays Jr Sweet I will remember that for the future>> I live near Foisters shop>>>so I ending up calling him and having him send a pair to the LHS for me.. I did not think to call anywhere looking for them cause I assumed he was just making these for steve and other guys requesting them.. Kenwood 09-23-2005, 07:36 AM OK another stupid question for those that use the new tower and brace like Arnie mentioned above>>> Got it yesterday...I see how the tower has more matl and seems to be more rigid.. My questions are about the brace... I see how it bolts on..but what Im not quite getting is the foot of the thing... Does this fot just bend down and rest on the chassis plate on the Outside LR of the chassis plate? or what..Im not quite following what the foot is actually doing for me..since it does not appear to get fastened anywhere on the chassis Im wondering if its really necessary to keep the foot...I cant imagine that the shock tower is flexing top to bottom>>Mine seemed to be flexing more front to back..the foot part does not seem to be helping me anywhere .. Am I installing this right or missing something?? Racin Steve 09-23-2005, 09:33 AM The main chassis is flexing up and down ... that added brace hold the battery down as the car rolls through the turns on flat tracks ... without the brace the LR spring doesn't prevent the LR part of the main chassis (where the battery sits) to flex up as the chassis "rolls". Running the added brace increases steering going in ... it's actually exactly like stiffening up the LR spring. Steve. team CW Kenwood 09-23-2005, 09:35 AM Hmm ok I will leave it then...Hopefully this and some other changes Ive made will mae a difference tomorrow.. :) thanks Steve.. Sean Maxwell Mr.fastman 09-23-2005, 07:31 PM OK another stupid question for those that use the new tower and brace like Arnie mentioned above>>> Got it yesterday...I see how the tower has more matl and seems to be more rigid.. Am I installing this right or missing something?? Kenwood - The brace will make the most difference on high bite tracks, I've had it on the car since snowbirds and wouldn't run without it. Try it you'll like it. Doug P Kenwood 09-24-2005, 11:22 PM Well long sad story here>> #1 Thanks to Arnie for the help with the car and getting the brace out quickly.. In practice the car was extremely fast and felt a lot better.. However.. Thanks to Spektrum my CW car is destroyed... Going into turn 3 in practice the thing went stupid and stopped responding to the radio>AFTER THE CRASH ESC lit up fine> personal transponder lit up fiine>>Receiver not lit up fine>>Untill it turned car off and back on again.. > While the failsafe seemed to kick in there is Not much that can stop a mod car when you in the corner and the wheels just turn straight for the wall( failsafe setting was STraight and brake) .. So My rear pod is all bent up, the pod graphite shows seperation, ceramic bearings and IRS ride height blocks blown out of the car, front bumper cracked>>RF steering arm pulled clean through the chassis.. Amongst other things.. Chassis is not where near flat anymore up front.. I guess Ill wait it out and get a CW slider when they release them.. For now back to the hyperdrive..WITH PCM>4-LIFE .. Anyone want a 3pk spectrum system.??? for sale cheap.. Sorry I have to try and keep the humor up as Im very #*%&)*)%&* about this.. BTW I want to thank Tim for letting me use his hyperdrive backup car so I could at least get some laps on the track tonight.. Bill Auchterlonie 09-25-2005, 09:40 AM Man that blows to say the least! Its to bad you cant leave that "testamonial" on Spectrums web site. I was thinking about purchasing it for myself but not anymore. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
