I need help with setup for willowmill ORL race. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Joe D

Joe, you can copy the setup from the CW Site that Arnie posted from the Seaford club race, that will get you super close, and I will try to get mine up before the weekend.

I did go 41, the first ever there, and its real close to what Arnie ran.

Oh, are you coming up this weekend? July 10th? Let me know.

Beach: I don't think I ever went 41 laps in 4 cell. What was the old 6 cell stock record anyhow? A slow 44 laps I think? Good run!

Yo Arnie... where were ya at this weekends race?? HUH!?!

Anyway, good run Beach. I'm not sure where Shane came up with speed. He worked his tail off to compete with ya. And that wreck in the main with Ozzy, oh man, that was some super close racing between you 2. Too bad I didn't make the show, I really wanted to run with you guys. I just have no luck at that track.

And Beach, not to burst your bubble, but Peachcock did 41 last year, so you aren't the "official" first 41 lap run. :p

Jason

I run on the same track that Burbs runs on and I think that I finally got the car figured out. Unfortunately, while I qualified 3rd in the A main, I screwed up the start and went a lap down early.....but with 34 laps each of the three rounds (1st rd 4.06, 2nd rd 4.05 and 3rd rd 4.03) proves that the car is more than competitive and I am sure that it will win an A main soon. Thanks, Custom Works.

Does anybody know where the shock tower cross brace goes. My local hobby shop ordered common replacement parts and the CW sales guy added this part #8019. It isn't shown in the manual. Unless it is an updated part???

If I were to guess it bolts to the back of the actual shock tower itself. Because of the length of the tower itself it is prone to flexing. Try seeing if it lines up with the holes that you also use to bolt the shock tower to the aluminum uprights (8022). Step five in the manual.

It has the same shape as the side shock cross brace but the holes don't line up with shock tower.

KenBajdek

Upon further review the 8019 part fits the hole in the bottom of the "u" shaped brace for the side shocks #8012 but the upper part of the 8019 brace is not as wide as the cross brace where the ball end screws into for the ball cup for the side shock. If you were to drill the holes to line up with the 8012 crossbrace then the top hole is almost too close to the edge. The 8019 doesn't have any holes drilled on the upper part where you would need 4 holes for the ball ends. Was this #8019 intended as a quick fix for the crossbrace flex until thicker crossbraces were cut?

If this is an updated piece... I probably need to get one of those. I noticed my car starting to feel "odd", so I started changing every part on it I had a replacment for, when I changed the shock tower, bang, the car was totally differnet.. I was thinking I might wanna just run the shock tower doubel think, and get some ball ends with longer threads to go thru a double thick piece of graphite.

Arnie, anyone, wanna chime in and give us the scoop, dod somethign change/get upgraded?

KenBajdek

Jason, I don't use the ball cup/ball end for the side shocks on the outside edge. I use Dubro ball links (small 4-40 #2161). I run a 1/2 4-40 screw through the cross brace and put a small 4-40 locknut against it. The spacing is just right plus it is easy to change springs or the angle that way. The springs just fit over the ball links. Ball cups just wear out too fast and get sloppy. I use the ball links on the front end too.

The brace bolts on down, towards the chassis. I am using the original brace but have seen some doubled up mounts being used.

One thing I used was a piece of graphite from a t-plate brace (the one that goes front to back on the pivot balls). I cut it off in length to the chassis, and then shoegoed it in place. WORKS AWESOME!!

Sorry for the delay, been trying to catch up here from running a gas sprint race in Illinois.

The #8019 Brace bolts directly to the backside of the newer #8012 Shock Towers. We changed the cut of the shock tower to be a bit more durable and added the holes so the brace can be bolted on the back side of the tower. The evolution of this brace pretty much comes from high bite carpet racing where when he car has stiffer side springs (Assoc. Copper and stiffer) it caused the Shock Tower to flex.

JBM: PA is mainly sprints and EDM's but alot of guys are building late models everywhere else. Gas and rubber tires (not pin spikes) is where it is at!

For those who are interested we have TrueSpeed modifieds and batteries (yes batteries now) in stock!

Arnie,
Thanks. If the vertical holes would have been predrilled it would have been real easy to see where it fit. Only the bottom 4 holes on the horizontal part were drilled. Are those holes for the ball end supposed to predrilled?

turn it the other way. you bolt it to the cross brace with it pointing down not up.

the old shock tower is thinner and doesn't have the holes for that piece.
