Yes it's that time again to get the carpet portion our our program up and ready to go.

First a few words as the outgoing President of "The Club" as we affectionately call ourselves:

I want to send my personal thanks and appreciation to all those who have helped in any way by, donating time, supplying materials, making suggestions on how we could improve, marshalling without being harassed, grooming tracks, taping carpet, painting walls, traveling to shopping malls, living through the start-up of the T/C Class, keeping points, developing web sites, sweeping sand & debris, vacuuming, setting-up tables & chairs and participating in the racing. You owe yourselves a big round of applasue; because of you and all this work, we've been able to have a place to race and the good fortune of each others comraderie.

You have made these years some of the most challenging, yet by far the most rewarding of my R/C career. When I look back and count up the achievements for the past three years; I feel "The Club" has a lot to be proud of and a great future ahead of it self.

I look forward to continuing on as the Secratary of the club and offically as of Oct. 1, 2204 welcome into office:

Ed Lagon President
Kyle Corbett Co-VIce President
Jimmy Willis Co-VIce President
Fred Houser Treasurer

We have had the first organization meeting and are prepared to release the tentative schedule as follows. Please stay tuned for updates, and I promise to get the Club's web site revised shortly:

whatever happened to the final standings and trophies for the top 10 who spent countless hrs and money following that touring series last season?

KirtC
10-05-2004, 12:51 PM
Dear Paul (Wee37);

There never was a top 10 for the NE Carpet Challenge, but a winner for each class was planned.

However, we at CD R/C Racer's have learned much about a traveling series including:

1 Those that complain about travel don't race at the track closest to home.
2 You can't please all the people all of the time.
3 Most of the time you can't please anyone.
4 Everyone wants to be invovled.
5 Less than half are willing to pay when the time comes.
6 Some see things as a fun challenge.
7 Others see the same as frustrating obsticles.
8 There is far more work behind the scenes that very few can appreciate, as most are not around when the work is done.
9 The Internet is a wonderfull thing, but a license should be required to use it.
10 It will be up to others to run such a series in the future.

There, at lest now we have a Top 10 :D

Interesting top 10 :p .
I was at the local races, and some out of town races ;) .

If not the top 10 trophies, what about the winners, if theres no NEW series???

Later, Bret

Well thanks for giving it a try Kirt. The way I see it there is just not room for a series like that due to all the big races in this area already....which I think is a GREAT thing (all the big races around here).

I look forward to racing at CDRC again....it doesn't get any smoother than carpet on a gym floor!! Would be sweet if you get rid of the "curb".

KirtC
10-05-2004, 04:20 PM
We are planning on removing the curb this year, see the Work Day activities above, any help is welcome.

Trophies, as the promised funds where not received from all participating tracks, we did could not afford them, We are deciding on how to distribute what was collected. I will not comment in this format on who did and did not, those that did know, and we greatly appreciate it. Don't ask or speculate.

The Club is willing to participate in a series, just can't run or organize it this year.

I'm very happy to see the anticipation building for the season, think early snow!!!

KIRT,i think the series is a good idea, but i believe that it can only be done with one class and only so many tracks being involved, for example almost every track run 4 cell stock, make sense to have the series with 4 cell stock or 19 turn if you wanna turn the wick up a little, but having a series is a lot of hard work and you should be commended for trying,if other guys want a series let them organize it,i thought for years about getting a series going with the 4 cell stock, but that's as far as it gotten.
who knows someday i may get all the local track promoters together and talk about it.

Look forward to seeing everyone on the 17th :)

In the mean itme, here's the list of activites for the Work Day (yea its aggressive) and the kinds of materials we will need as well as the tools.

Please review, advise if you have any of the materials lying around and want to donate them, otherwise we'll go shopping. I'm working on the casters, plastic for dots and the vinyl flooring; unless someone speaks up. The club will purchase the down spout as it needs to match what we already have.

Review the list of required tools as well and bring what you can to help in one or two of the ares.

A hard working group turned out this past Sunday, even three racers that have never turned a lap at the famed temporary track. A tremendous amount was accomplished including:

Carpet rolled out and is in great shape

Outside “Safer Barriers” repaired

Scoring Tower re-arranged

Tables Repaired

Chairs Repaired

Table Dollies Repaired and Re-built

Pizza Devoured

Retaining Sand Bags Re-wrapped & Taped

Closet Organized

We have chosen to hold off on the inside wall re-build as we are looking into buying a “Road-Rail” system for the entire inside wall and plenty of extra pieces for the Road Course creations. If all goes well it will be in for the Oct 31st practice day.

Remember we are dark nest week (Election Day Breakfast)

All in all we are all set for the 31st when we’ll have organized practice. Normal rates apply, $10 except Novice $5 (We’ve got to pay for the place).

The scoring system will be set up and operational in “Practice” mode. If you have a personal transponder, your laps will appear under that number, if not just use one of the Club’s public transponders (keep track of which one) and your lap times will print out under that number.

New classes are always welcome; it only takes three cars to start a class. With the absence of the Legends Class there’s been a real void for an inexpensive starter class. We are working on a really cool pan car style chassis, but the details and costs won’t be worked out until the end of the year. In the meantime, let’s bring out those Mini-Ts and anything else, maybe a RTR Truck class. Bring in the ride and the Club’s officers will review for “Carpet Safety” and let you know.

Gearbox Truck drivers, we need your opinion on a few issues during the practice Sunday (31 Oct) even if your not ready for practice come on down for an early class meeting. Two issues we want to discuss:

Highly modified chassis Vs stock “Tub” style
Shaking thing up a bit with a double or triple washboard on one straight and maybe a small jump on the other
After all, there’re supposed to be trucks!!!

Once again thank you very much to all those that came to help, reminisce, and kibitze this past Sunday.

See Ya ..................At The Track

Hey Dan

It would be great to have you come on down.

The first race is Nov 7th, there's a warm up controlled practice on Oct 31st.
Every Sunday from then on except Dec 26th.

For future reference you can use the Club's web site and hit the schedule link.

http://cdrcracers.50megs.com/

I haven't heard what is up with Latham. I know they closed down a little earlier than planned last spring, but they had purchased new carpet and reworked their boards to improve things.

Hope to see Ya.......At The Track:thumbsup:

Well its official. We have placed our order for the Road Dome parts today and they will be in for the Practice day, 31 Oct. We will be replacing the old wooden infield with the new system as well as creating all road couses with the new car friendly divider.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions this year as it looks like another great year is about to get under way.

See Ya.............At The Track

Next Sunday, 31 Oct at 10 AM not only is the first week of laps on the track run in controlled practice format, but it's the Fall Swap Meet As well.

Racers young and old are looking for upgrades, new rides, batteries, bodies, tires, etc. Even if your not runnin', bring down your excess stuff and your piggy bank; just keep the nitro fuel outside, as we can't afford to re-surface the gym floor !! LOL

See Ya.............At The Track

PS Jet : we'll run 19 turn even if I have to dust off the Bill Woods proto-type 10L knock-off!!!

road dome/rails are a bad move...THEY SUCK. Just an advance warining. If your going to line the inside corner with them they are a bad idea. Road rails turn onroad races into off road freestyle contests. I know your supposed to stay off the way but accidents happen and if you hit them your car is out of the park. And touring is just a mess. They move around and you launch your car and well road rails aren't great at all.

Hey Justin
I'm puzzled if this stuff is all the rage why your so down on it. Not sayin your wrong, as I've only seen the adds and the website. We're keeping our outside Soft Walls as I'd put that design up against anything else our there and I don't see the inside rail taking that much of a beating in oval. Even so we plan on velcroing it too the rug.

If you've got any more ideas let us know or better yet come on down and play!

Kirt,
I will definately make some shows this year you guys have a great set up and its fun because my buddys (jake, josh, jimmy) run T/C too and most of the time we have seperate nights so its tons of fun to pit with them. we have road rails at our track if youve seen the layout on the homepage ( www.racingcity.com (http://www.racingcity.com/) ) Even if you have them velcrowed down make sure you replace them stock plastic rivets they break so easy i think we went threw a bag a week of them things. If you use regular screw with a wing nut it works great but a hard hit and it will rip right out of the dot leaving the dot useless and unusable. the road rails shouldnt be a problem in oval but sometimes if someone gets a tap or out of shape going in or out of a corner being turned into the infield it will launch the car like no other every track with road rails i have seen this scenario happen. Just my .02 from my personal expeiences looking forward to another great carpet season in the northeast

This Sunday, 31 Oct at 10 AM doors open for the 26th season. Rather than running a race format we are having organized, by class, practice sessions with the timing system enabled, printing off your lap times. So charge those packs and hit the track for as many laps as you can!

It's also the Fall Swap Meet day, so clean out hte R/C closet and ....

Kurt now now the club has the indoor offroad jumps for mini t and the oval trucks. Sorry but i have to agree with justin on the lanunching capabilities of the disk and rail system. They have a lower profile and the corner disks are hard to see.Watch out for flying cars!:drunk: I believe the right idea is in place for the season,it will make changes quicker, but thats about it. I kove the statement that it is car friendly. No wall system is!

For those racers who experienced our computer on Nov 7th, which was also to be the first week of points, we want to offer our apologies and thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Your willingness to run organized practice in timed, race format was greatly appreciated.

If you didn’t make it back this Sunday (Nov 14th) you’ll be glad to hear that we where able to get the computer fixed and the show went fine. It seems that while I was trying to update the Club’s web site {another story for another day} I was fooled by what I thought was a Microsoft update and turned out to be a virus. This nasty thing locked up the computer and fooled the registry to the point that it would not boot; heck it wouldn’t even shutdown!

Several computer experts pronounced it dead and that we would loose all our data while completely cleaning the hard drive and reloading all the software. However Gerd W., an old club member and good personal friend, managed to not only get the computer functioning, but it in the exact state as the last practice day Oct 31st. Gerd refused to accept anything for his work as a donation to the Club; a real class guy.

Once again, thanks to everyone for your understanding, and a very special thank you to Gerd.

See Ya next week………………….At The Track:thumbsup:

will there still be the corner dot of doom in the apex of the corner? I know me and a friend of mine both chunked a tire or two just by picking it. I think it would be better without it or put some tiling down it would be alot cheaper than chunking tires and launching cars... just my.02

KirtC

Hey Justin and others

We have no problem trying things without the Dots-of Doom
The original thinking was to provide a visual for the apex so your car (truck) would be in the right line for exiting the turn; as if your arch is too flat at that point the car is going to hit the next dot sending you way wide, na d maybe out of hte park.

But lets give it a try. There was also some talk of getting some white duct tapw (yes it is made) and tape the leading edge of the dots to eliminate the sharp edge which should elininate the chucking problem..

Keep the suggestions coming as they are appreciated and better results allways prevail that when only "Whine" in served.

See Ya.........At The Track
