Anybody watch the new ABC show THE LOST last night? Was watching TV with the sound off, listening to tunes, when a commercial for the show came on about 10 minutes to seven. At first I thought it was an ad for a new reality show about people stranded on an island but it's a new adventure drama. I checked it out. Believe it's made by the people who make Alias. An airliner crashes on a seeming deserted tropical island. Effects not bad for network TV(one guy gets sucked into the jet engine). There are the assorted group of survivors. The male lead (aka hero) is a doctor, so he says. He's pretty physical and knows how to handle himself in a crisis. Has some kind of tattoo on his arm, couldn't make it out(military?). Also the guy who played THE STEPFATHER(Terry Quinn?) is this strange, mysterious character(CIA? Black Ops?). There is strange stuff going on. There is some large creature on the island.BIG CREATURE. They didn't show it but it knocks down trees as it walks and growls like a T-Rex. It grabs the pilot out of the wreckage of the cockpit through the roof, he screams and then the windshield is splattered with blood. Later they find his body, make that "ripped up body" , way up high in a tree. There's also is a dog running around, not from the plane. What's the scoop on this show? Island run by government for secret experiments? Does this Quinn character know where they are? Was the crash intentional, not an accident? I get the feeling thet're gonna be stingy with answers to keep you watching to find out.

Dag Nabbit! I wanted to see it, but got tied up in a meeting and jus' plain forgot about it! It got a good review in USA Today. I'll have to check for an "encore" presentation.
So...did you enjoy it?

We set that up on Tivo a week ago. The show was great. Cool plot, but WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING???? One of the characters says" I've heard that sound before!" Yeah, in Jurrasic Park!

I taped it and watched the beginning, except I missed the very beginning, I think. Did they show the crash itself, or did it just pick up with the chaos on the beach?

I knew that jet engine was gonna eat somebody!

The show started with the doctor/hero guy waking up all dazed in the forest. The mysterious dog is out of sight watching him. He finds the mini liquor bottle in his pocket and then seems to remember what happened. He walks to the beach where the wreckage is and everyone(still alive) is walking around dazed or laying on the ground wounded, moaning and groaning. The crash was never shown, just the flashback when the plan starts to nosedive.

If you missed it all you missed was the set-up. Several mysteries introduced, no answers.
1. Passenger liner from Fiji to ?
2. Radio goes out(sabotage?) and they turn back to Fiji. They are 1000 miles off course when plane crashes so nobody will find them
3. Crash is supposedly from turbulence or wind shear. The tail broke off in the air.
4. Plane crashes on tropical island.
5.Survivors: doctor/hero, woman(heroine?), pregnant woman, bass player of rock band, guy who probably still lives in his folk's basement playing video games all day, japanese couple, good looking prom queen type with her boyfriend and the creepy Terry Quinn character.
6. Mysteries: What's this dog that is "observing" them (reminds me of the dog in Watchers)?Survivors don't know about the dog. What's this big thing/monster in the forest? Where are they that there could be such a monster? Was the crash sabotage? If so why?
Thought about the time travel angle, time warp tearing plane apart, but don't think that's it.
Only thing I rember about the trailer for next week is that they find a set of handcuffs.

The dog was mentioned as missing by the black kid and his dad, so I think it's no big mystery...

I wanted to see it, but as soon as I saw it was on opposite Smallville, well, forget it.

Smallville was INCREDIBLE last night! Just a stunning flying effect as Clark, posessed by his Kal El persona, BURNS thru the air after Lex's corporate jet and catches it. (Pilot: "What is that? A bird? A plane?" )

We already tape 70s Show and watch Smallville, so the new, third show loses. Oh well.

Terry O'Quinn is the actor in question; he also portrayed "FBI Assistant Director Kendall" on Alias -- who was really not FBI at all but part of "Special Research" -- or at least that was his most recent story. He claimed he was in charge of "Project Black Hole." You say you've never heard of "Project Black Hole"? Kendall would say, "Thank you!" ;)

Given the 747 in japan that lost it's tail feathers and the TWA that the navy shot at and the front section fell off and the wings/tail keep flying, I'd think it highly difficult to believe that anybody will come down alive in the crash shown.

I missed the reference to the dog, I assumed the boy and his dad were talking about the Mom.
Right before the planes starts diving, the stewardess is chasing one of the passengers, who I believe is the bassist-hobbit dude.
There have been reports of cgi wild Boars used in the show, but that would have to be 1 big PIG.
I like the Japanese guys isolationist attitude, kinda funny.
Theres a gun in next weeks show and there is that surly dude, the guy with the zippo.
Cool show.
I liked the Stepfather dude just embracing the rain.

Ah, but with a show created by J.J. Abrams -- and given the fact the crash itself wasn't shown -- it may be assuming too much to say there really was a crash per se.

There are some mild spoilers at tvtome's "Lost" section but answers to the bigger mysteries most likely aren't yet plotted out.

I felt I was watching a Fox show.
Like Firefly, I wasn't knocked out by this first episode but I'll tune in for a few more episodes.
Looks like Nick Tate is an upcoming guest star.
Smallville doesn't air on free tv in Canada til next week so thanks for the spoilers, spoily mcspoilerson! ;)

Well if they had followed that idea it would have been one hell of a boring hour long show.

The aircraft's pilot was played by Greg Grunberg, who has had the recurring role of CIA agent Eric Weiss on Alias. Grunberg has been friends with J.J. Abrams since both of them were in kindergarten; Abrams also cast Grunberg in a role on Felicity, his pre-Alias series.

Doesn't it sound like a heck of a lot of fun to be able to do things like that with your oldest friend?

Did anyone think that the music was reminiscent of King Kong? The part where they were walking through the jungle and they knew the 'thing' was out there.

A friend taped it from his TeVo for me, I'll have to watch it again and see if there are similarities.

Lots of possibilities - When I watched it, I approached it as if I was watching a mystery, weighing the importance of every event and action while keeping mindful of red herrings. I actually hope the story doesn't develop too quickly - like they say, it's the trip, not the destination.

The nice thing is, it isnt a C.S.I. , Law and Order or a reality show. Hopefully it wont go the way of the Dodo bird. ABC had that Veritas The Quest and after their first few shows it was constantly pre-empted for weeks on end. It had it's flaws but ABC never gave that a chance. This time I hope they'll stick with it for more then 10 minutes.

Let's get to the real topics at hand here. Where are they and what's in the forest? Based on the last episode we now know that number one, there are strange animals on this island and animals that shouldn't be there (the polar bear). Number two, we now know that there have been people there before who never left. Obviously the writers are going to feed us information very slowly as the mysteries unravel. Some trains of thought being discussed is that it's the Bermuda Triangle or that they all died and are in some type of hell, or they're on some government experiment island. What is the phantom creature? Did the strange island have anything to do with the plane crash? Then there's the stories of each of the characters. It's the process of learning the answers to these questions that will keep viewers tuned in. I'd like to know what you all think about these questions and give some rationale to support your theory. Let's see if we can predict the outcome of this show before it ends. One thing is for sure, we'll all be stunned as things unfold. I just hope Hollywood doesn't give us some lame payoff.

I think the polar bear was on vacation. It is awfully cold where he came from, after all. On the upside, they can probably find his stash of Coca-Cola(TM).

If Alias is any indication, you may be able to predict some things, but there will be twists no one sees coming.

Something to chew on. According to tvtome.com the first season will cover 40 days. And the Biblical reference is deliberate.

The question then is which 40 days event does it refer to.

I wonder if it was just a coincidence there was a polar bear in the spanish comic the kid was looking thru. Definately a cool pilot, I finally caught the two hour encore showing tonight.

A lot of it seems to be connected to the kid. The polar bear appeared after he saw one in the comic book. When he was talking to his father about the dog, the father said he'd find the dog as soon as it stopped raining. It immediately stopped raining. The dog was found not by his father, but by the mysterious stranger the boy has bonded with.

Monsters from the Id may not be that far off.

"Shore Leave"

Maybe?

Cool, I didn't know that was Alan Carter. The previews next week show the Terry O'quinn character confronting the giant Monster. The trouble is, the preview the week before showed the same shot. This episode was pretty much filler, because we still don't know waht Kate did. The ID thing? I wonder how many of the survivors have wished for a rescue boat?
