I have a 17 hp verticle shaft B&S engine. How do I get the sections apart - tap the crankshaft? Everything appears to be disconnected. I need to replace a blown crankcase gasket.

there should be a seal at the crank take it off first. do not tap it off!!!! if it don't come off by hand or slight rubber mallet taps take it somewhere to get it off because you might crack the alluminum.
