Matt Bayless 09-14-2004, 11:22 PM This thread should be used to prolong our sport. And combine oval raceing with roadcourse. We all race under the same roof and should treat each other the way we want to be treated. Please. Lets race together and make sure each racer wants to come back each week. MATT Bayless
tfrahm 09-14-2004, 11:49 PM OK -- Good to see a fresh start...
This weekend, the 'road trip' is ON... I'm in for 4-cell stock and Legends, Marvin is in for 4-cell sportsman and Legends, Phil is in for 4-cell sportsman, and we're bringing two NEW racers... Ron will run 'rent-a-ride' in 4-cell sportsman, and may bring his sedan... Robert may come and bring his sedan... Support your local CARPET! (even if it's not very "local"...):D
tfrahm 09-15-2004, 08:42 AM Say... On the old thread, 'Justin' posted (8-28-2004) that he was working on a web site for The Race Place... Any updates?
Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 08:56 AM I heard that the web site was very close to being completed. That's great that your making the road trip here Tom and even better that your bringing so many with you. We need more people like Tom that helps promote this hobby of ours.
I can not wait till this week end , should be some good racing. You and Paul have helped bring Legends back here and I hope it will keep going because it is a fun class. I have been thinking about it myself or maybe even a touring car, yes thats right a touring car. I might only be in the C main but I have always liked the touring cars and have always wanted to give it a try. Anyway I am sure you and Paul will put on a real good show in Legends tradeing positions evey lap or so.
Look forward to seeing everyone this week end for some good racing and most important some FUN.
cowboy 09-15-2004, 09:41 AM advise cowboy when you all plan on having a two day race in the ozarks...
see ya all in KC on oct 8...
cowboy
BrentP 09-15-2004, 09:51 AM I'm with Jake on the Mod thing. Until those bumps out of turn 4 are gone anything more than 19 turn will be a disaster.
I don't think I'll be there again this weekend. I'm waiting on my new packs from TQCells. If I get them before Saturday, I'll be there, if not I'll for sure be there next weekend. I have been needing new batteries for a long time.
We'll be sure to let you know about our 2 day show Cowboy.

MarkNoel 09-15-2004, 10:20 AM ..... I have been thinking about it myself or maybe even a touring car, yes thats right a touring car. I might only be in the C main but I have always liked the touring cars and have always wanted to give it a try. ...
Bob with a touring car, now that's something i want to see! the nitro season will be done before long, last race is October 2nd at AnPac across from Sleeth Hobbies. it's a FREE promotional race with some trophies and cash payouts for the winners. not sure exactly when the nitro guys will start running electric on a regular basis though. looks like several of them want to run dirt until the cold drives them inside for the winter.
Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 10:33 AM Mark , what is your opinon on cars? I have been leaning towards the X-ray. What do you think of that car?
MarkNoel 09-15-2004, 11:24 AM in my opinion the Xray is probably top of the line, with a price tag to match. i thought about getting one myself but decided that my TC3 is just fine for now. after taking all of the bearings out of my car and finding over half of them locked up with carpet made me decide not to spend the money on the Xray.
the Associated TC4 is supposed to be out in the next month too.
Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 11:41 AM Thank's. I know the X-Ray is high dollar, but it is a very fine car from what I saw last week. For what I want to do I think I will just get a TC3. Kevin Perry said he would let me run his Losi so I might take him up on it and then decide what to do after I run that a while. If I decide to do it I will practice allot on are track before I enter any races. I have never run road course so I need to get in allot of practice were I will not be in everyones way.
No comment from you M.K.
MK Race 09-15-2004, 11:44 AM I might be coming down this weekend instead of the 25th. But I will have to run my old batteries from last year again.
Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 11:47 AM Your always fast no matter what Mike. Hope you make this week end.
tfrahm 09-15-2004, 12:37 PM I might be coming down this weekend instead of the 25th. But I will have to run my old batteries from last year again.
But.... Mike.....
It's all chassis 'setup', right?
Heck -- I'm running batteries I bought USED off of eBay.... Wait... I'm a full lap off the pace.. NEVERMIND....
BrentP 09-15-2004, 12:39 PM OK, I may see about racing this weekend since everyone is coming down. Let me know fure sure if your going to be there Mike so I can make plans.

tfrahm 09-15-2004, 12:50 PM Bob -- I'm pretty much a hard-core LOSI guy... I LOVE my XXX-S's, but I'm running in a parking lot series -- never ran them on carpet.
Locally, the XRay is my most serious competition, but they are also seriously under legal weight (3-4 oz), and take some work to add the necessary weight without upsetting the balance... The front one-way REALLY gives it lots of steering, but from watching the sedans on the carpet down there, I'm not sure that's a GOOD thing for The Race Place...?
TC3's can be setup up to have a VERY smooth drive train (I ran TC3's for 3-4 years), but it takes some work and a few "tricks" -- Mostly playing with shims in the pinion/diff gear area to free up the mesh without letting it be too loose...
The LOSI single belt is both a blessing and a curse... Belt drives never "feel" as free as shaft drive, but on the track, I was faster with the XXX-S than the TC3, so I sold all my TC3's and went totally XXX-S. Unlike the XRay, the standard LOSI is HEAVY -- get the G+ version for sure... (I had to convert mine to graphite before the G+ was available....) Due to a general lack of traction on the parking lot, I'm still using diffs front and rear...
jajnmj 09-15-2004, 12:57 PM brent or mike don't let batteries stop u from coming i have plenty of new batteries!!!

Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 02:04 PM Thanks for the information Tom. Kevin Perry said I could use his so I may give it a try. His is the Losi but I don't know which one it is.
Mark, what tires and inserts should a guy run to get hooked up on are track?
MarkNoel 09-15-2004, 02:53 PM i've been running Sorex 24R with hpi blue inserts in the front, Sorex 20R with hpi blue inserts in the rear. that seems to be a pretty good place to start. maybe use hpi green inserts if you think you'll need a little more traction. the rubber tires are going to slide a little no matter what so you'll just have to find something that feels comfortable to you.
Bob Cole 09-15-2004, 03:01 PM Thanks
MK Race 09-15-2004, 04:52 PM Hey Brent, not sure if I can make it this weekend for sure yet. They are having a big Latemodel show at I-55 this Saturday and I haven't been there in a few years. If it rains I'll be racin with you guys.
BrentP 09-15-2004, 04:54 PM I'm not going to be able to make it either way. I've need to get some things done at home this weekend. I'll be there for sure next weekend.

It would be sweet to run those in stock or 19 on a weekly basis. Any intrest lets here it .Do you think we would have to change our rollout if we ran them in stock?Would we run them for 5 minutes in heats.4 cell of course .would we turn more laps with these in stock than our 10 scale cars if we ran them four minutes. All questions I would like to find the answers to.What weight oils should we run in the shocks?tires body styles. O boy the smell and excitement of running a new class come on lets do it! :)

jake86 09-16-2004, 04:53 PM I saw that Brent and thought that it was strange that your name was not in the 19t class. Hope every one has fun at the race. I will be up there that weekend just not on Friday.
Mayhem Racing 09-16-2004, 05:52 PM Sorry Brent I was Typing so Fast I got ahead of myself. Your on there now. How about you jake86 are you going to miss the biggest oval race in these parts.
Shane
Matt Bayless 09-16-2004, 07:35 PM So 12 scale oval sounds like it might work.Lets all shoot for the 25 next Sat. to begin runing them my car should be built by then. It was missing a few parts right out of the box.And the instructions.

Shane
I will be up there that weekend but it will be for the world cup over at I-70 speedway. Can't miss a 300 late model race.
Bob Cole2 09-16-2004, 09:07 PM Jake what you doing on here, its past your bed time. :jest:

I'll be there then & I'll bring my HD 1/12 scale with me. I don't think stock would be any fun on them though. All I've ever run in mine is 19t & I really think stock would be too slow. 19t is just right, I've run an 8x2 in mine before & if you want the hair on your neck to stand up that is one way to do it.

that sounds good to me also.
Matt Bayless 09-17-2004, 09:15 PM Ok sounds like 12 scale is go on the 25th kevin,Brent, jason, jeff, and myself. How about paul and Bob havent heard from you guys on this?19 turn any motor except binary open timeing box stock , 5 minute heats 4 cell and of course wings are allowed. How about that ? basicly roar rules for 12 scale oval. I cant remember the last time I was so excited about raceing a new class. It will be kind of weird for me to race on the 25th and not race stock at all. I might have withdraws. :freak: But it may be just what I need.
jajnmj 09-17-2004, 09:36 PM Matt, my 1/12 turns left and right no 1/12 oval for me. But i am up for some 19 turn action. I wanted 2 run open mod did some practicing and the track is definetly not ready for that yet, I could break the tires loose mid straitaway on BSR pinks (verysoft)

Most likely because of the 6 single and the killer batteries, to much horsepower Grasshopper.
jajnmj 09-17-2004, 11:37 PM It was a new 7 double and only made a mere 160watts@37000!!!!!! I don't know why it would burn the tires mid straitaway  The track is just not ready for power like that yet, we would have to turn the power level down so far we might as well run 19 turn it would probably be just as fast!!!!!

Bob Cole2 09-17-2004, 11:41 PM What time you going to be at the track Jeff?
jake86 09-18-2004, 11:11 AM Jeff Can I say told you so.
Bob Cole2 09-19-2004, 11:42 AM Racing was really great last night. For the stock class there were 4 guys that qualified with 52 laps within a couple of seconds of each other. Also Jeff Johnson set a new track record of 52 laps ,4.02.16 in the main. Track seems to be getting faster. In the Ledgends Paul and Tom put on a good show as always. Paul set a new track record in Legends of 54 or was it 55 laps in the main, to bad Tom got into one of those racing deals or there may have been a lot closer race between Tom and Paul. Tim won the Touring car A main and done a fantastic job driving.
Great job Paul West and Jeff Johnson on the track records. I think we all had a lot of fun last night and that is what it is all about. Look forward to seeing Tom and Marvin again. Marvin how was the trip home?
And special thanks to the Sean and Matt for setting some things straight. Great job by all the racers last night lets keep it up, hope to see all of you next week.
jajnmj 09-19-2004, 04:49 PM Thanks, it means alot right now to be able to turn a track record because everyone is so fast. I don't think that it will last that long with everyones effort they have been putting into there race cars. I think it won't be long before the track record is 53 laps, but i appreciate everyone coming over and congratulating me last night, that means alot to me, plus the fun everyone had last night everyone was fast. Congrats to paul west, that was the smoothest legends car i have ever seen it almost looked like a pan car going through the corners!!!!!!!. Also very smooth driving paul, don't think i seen him make a mistake in the legends car alnight long!!!!
thanks everyone

tfrahm 09-20-2004, 01:12 AM Yep, some good racing, some bad luck, but all in all, a good night of racing!
For some reason, my 4-cell car really fell off for the B-main... Lap times slowed by 1-2 tenths, without any changes to the car...? Could be a battery fading, could be the motor "ate" some rug hair or something... I'll figure it out... Kind of frustrating to only manage a 49 lap run in the main after two straight 50's in the last two heats... It's a real puzzle -- I wasn't blazing fast in the 2nd and 3rd heats, but I ran some 4.6's and 4.7's -- in the B-main, I had two 4.8's (I think) and then over 30 4.9's... Consistent, but consistently slow... Just "lost" speed -- car "felt" and looked good, ran nice lines, but didn't have the speed... Rear tires only lost about 0.01" in diameter, so it wasnt' a loss of rollout... Battery (GP3300) had 972 mAh left after race, but only showed an average voltage of 4.154 over the remaining 3:01 at 20 amps... (I'll cycle the pack later for a better picture of it's current condition, and dyno the motor "as raced" before I cut the comm to check it out too...)
I think it would have been fun to get the chance to really race Paul in Legends, but after getting put into the wall by a lap car, all I could manage was a 53 lap run... Car handled a bit "odd" after that -- can't find anything wrong exactly, it just appears that it 'tweaked' the chassis by twisting it from the impact, and as legends racers know, it doesn't always twist back automatically...
Bob -- I 'won' those two used lefthanderrc packs on eBay, so maybe they will give me a bit of renewed speed?
tfrahm 09-20-2004, 01:34 AM There seemed to be some questions about Legends rules... At least two objections related to my car... As an aid to the curious, here are two links. The first is to the ONLY current rules, as adopted/posted by ARCOR and RC Spec Racing. As you may know, BOLINK no longer exists, and RC Spec Racing has negotiated to take over the Legends name from the "full size" Legends authority...
http://www.rcspecracing.com/Rules.cfm
Here is a link to a 'copy' I saved from the old BOLINK site before it died...
http://hometown.aol.com/dordba/lgndrule.htm
It should be noted that the 'new' rules include (I believe) TOO MUCH CHANGE... Bearings in the wheels/axles for one... Mandatory change to Race Prep 'R' Brushes for another... On the other hand, those pesky front wheel bushings sure make the wheels "wobbly", so who knows...?
I'd recommend the original rules, but I'm an outsider with a car that's been questioned for the first time in 8 years... (Nothing BIG -- my motor has a 1/8" spacer between it and the chassis to prevent the motor from sucking in the tire dust, etc. through the big holes in the chassis plate, and my battery was 1/4" off center -- Paul's was only 1/8" off center -- both from using foam to keep the battery from flopping around inside the chassis rails...) I did have a motor protested once at Chilli -- someone didn't like my brushes, so Billy gave me the used ones out of one of his motors for the A-main -- I won anyway, so...
I just need someone to tell me what rules we're using so I can change whatever I have to change to avoid conflict or protest...
