View Full Version : Protoform Oval Bodies
erock1331 09-14-2004, 11:48 AM Gentlemen its been a while since the release of a new Oval body from Protoform.
That is about to change. Protoform is releasing a new body:
the"2004 Dodge R/T Medium Downforce" body.
The testing is still in its early stages but so far the team drivers are giving it positive reviews.
This body will bridge the gap between a Speedway and High Downforce body.
All the great turning of an HD body but still retains the efficiency in the straights of a Speedway body.
The body features a built in spoiler (approx 1/4" high). If you need additonal downforce you add the spoiler provided and cut it to the desired height you need.
Expected release date is Oct 15, 2004 so check it out.
See Pics Below
Thanks

c barsalow 09-23-2004, 04:13 PM can anyone give me their opinion of the:
protoform

1222 intrepid
1223 monte hd

I've run the 1222 and the 1223 on flat carpet tracks and the 1223 on banked concrete oval (caps).
The 1223 HD Monte just plain turns ! -- it'll turn on a dime and give you change back !! It is great for flat carpet tracks and I love it out doors on the concrete oval we run on.
I have also run the 1222 Dodge on the flat carpet track -- also good -- more balanced and not as aggressive turning in -- it needs a little different car setup for flat carpet, but it can be just as fast or faster than the HD chevy -- for my Hyperdrive, it was about 2 spring rates softer needed in the front end. The Dodge is a more balanced feel in my opinon and doesn't feel as agressive.
Hope that helps.
Jeff.
erock1331 09-23-2004, 04:31 PM Chuck,
I can't really comment too much on the 1220 Monte as I have never ran one. From guys I know who have ran them they fit inbetween the Dodge and HD Monte as far as downforce goes.
1221 Taurus - Has the least amount of downforce - great for Stock Banked Oval and in some cases even work in 19T on banked tracks.
1222 Dodge - Most commonly used in stock class on flat tracks and a good 19T banked track body.
1223 Monte HD - Has the most overall downforce and turning capabilities of all the bodies, definately a flat track body, I have seen it used in all classes on flat rug and also used for Mod racing on banked tracks and low grip apshalt and cap tire tracks.
1224 Dodge R/T MD - Medium downforce body adds the best of both worlds, the turning of an HD body with less overall drag than the HD monte down the straights. So far in testing I have gone down about 8-10 clicks of dual rate just by switching from the Taurus to this body.
Hope that helps out
c barsalow 09-26-2004, 06:00 PM Definitely helps. I haven't raced in a while so getting a little insight is truly helpful. The profiles looked like they would respond as you both stated. Turning down that dual rate means less scrub and faster laps...!
SMROCKET 09-29-2004, 07:52 PM EROCK welcome to the TEAM and Glad to have you running the new body in stock and 19turn ,with The restof the TEAm trying the body in MOD should be a great combo /// I am sure that it has been tested on the fastest banked track in the country and has shown to be faster than the rest of the bodies out ./////// I am going to try it this weekend on a snowbirds replica track and will report back .....SRM

Our distributor was told by Protoform that there won't be - ANY - bodies shipped until the end of Oct. This includes any more of the HD Monte Carlo.

erock1331 10-17-2004, 11:48 PM Jeff,
I sent an email to Dale Epp last week, to see what the story was..I have yet to hear from him. Once I find out something I will post back.
TeamGoodwrench 10-18-2004, 02:34 PM .
FYI - **** UPDATE ****
It looks like we'll be getting more Protoform HD Monte Carlo bodies sometime during the week of Oct. 25 (next week).
Thx.

erock1331 10-18-2004, 02:43 PM I just got a message from Dale Epp.
Basically Protoform got a verbal blessing from the Dodge licensing people but nothing in writing yet. Once the lawyers get the red tape sorted out, the body will be released.
He said he is hoping Nov 1 at the very latest.
mhawk11 10-18-2004, 03:51 PM hey guys, is there a new 2005? motecarlo body coming out or was it just another rumor?
Q-ball 10-19-2004, 06:34 PM Being new back into oval racing, I ordered 2 of the Taurus bodies. What are your thoughts on that one? From what was said, or not said, it sounds like not as much is thought of that body compared to the others.
Scott b#111 10-19-2004, 07:08 PM Where can I get a nastruck dodge ram bodie for pancar? Any help on this thanks

Q-Ball -- it really depends a lot on where you are running and what kind of track it is -- i.e. banked or flat, etc.

Q-ball
The Protoform Taurus is a "speedway body", low overall downforce and least amount of drag in the Protoform lineup.
This body works great at tracks like Classic and Sandhills (banked carpet tracks)in both stock and 19T.
I also run it on our foam tire asphalt track (slight banking) in the stock class.
You might be able to get away with this body in stock on flat tracks with a large wing, but the new Dodge R/T and HD monte are the flat track bodies.

UPDATE:
Protoform got the blessing from Dodge and the new Dodge R/T is in stock and ready to ship this week to the Distributors.
So they should be hitting the shops soon !!
TeamGoodwrench 10-20-2004, 09:21 AM I just e-mailed my distributor to order a bunch of them :)
Way cool.
Q-ball 10-20-2004, 12:33 PM Thanks for the input guys. The Taurus should work for me then. The track I plan on racing is a high banked asphalt track, that runs stock class only. You run pretty much flat out.
I may also do some parking lot stuff, for that, I'll get one of the high downforce bodies.
erock1331 10-20-2004, 04:53 PM hey guys, is there a new 2005? motecarlo body coming out or was it just another rumor?
mhawk11,
I have not heard anything about another Monte coming out.
The last time I spoke with Dale on the phone, he mentioned a possibility (nothing definate) of a new Taurus HD body and the another new Dodge since the Dodge teams in Nascar are running the "Charger" body style in the 2005 Nextel season.
SMROCKET 10-20-2004, 05:19 PM You just never know what PROTOFORM has on the drawing board but from what I here it will be the Snizzel, Look for another new body sometime before the Birds.......SRM ,I can not tell any more info for now...
EAMotorsports 10-20-2004, 07:34 PM Spoke with Dale today. The Dodge HD body will be legal for the Norrca nats at sandhills next month. They will be shipping to distributors this week.
Thanks

huffrcman 10-29-2004, 10:45 AM WOW!!! a new body we can run at the Velodrome.
hydroracer 10-29-2004, 06:27 PM Once someone gets their hands on the new Dodge body, can you please post the front and rear widths?
Thanks
erock1331 11-02-2004, 03:44 PM Sorry for the rough estimates, (I am at work and dont have calipers, only a ruler)
I measured the front (top of the body) from the middle of the wheel well - and it was a hair above 7 3/4"
The rear is kinda tough to measure by the wheel wells beause each car runs a different wheelbase, but its about 8".
Very similar to the HD Monte's measurements, the big difference between the 2 that I notice is the rear. On the Monte the rear end width pretty much stays the same all the way back to the bumper. The Dodge body flares in a tad much like the Taurus body.
