View Full Version : Protoform Oval Bodies
Todd Putnam 12-17-2004, 03:09 PM Smoke: Yes, the guy he passed for the win was Mark Corns.
D-white: I still remember the first Nats I attended in '90. The 1/12th Mod A main(s) were some of the best wheeling I have ever witnessed. Too bad they had to re-run the show! You were the National Champ for a few hours, anyway...
Still wish we had the depth of talent at the big races that we had back in the late 80's and early 90's...
Where are the days of 80+ Mod 1/12th cars and 200+ 1/10 stock?
Dwight Smith 12-20-2004, 04:24 PM TP....not sure we will ever see that again! Yeah...the Peach Bowl was a great race. Still think that's the only "A" main that has been "RERUN" in ROAR history!! Now..if we get a Nats with over 125 cars total we're excited. That's one really cool thing about the Birds...25-30 1/12 mod oval cars not to mention the 40+ 19t versions!!!! Dust off that Blaney ride and get 'er tuned up!
davepull 12-25-2004, 10:39 PM just wondering how the new body is on a flat carpet track compaired to the HD monte carlo?
speeking of the HD monte. do you guys think that you need a wing with this body in 4 cell stock?
bluelineracer 12-27-2004, 09:15 AM i've gone every bit as fast with the r/t as i ever did with the monte carlo. i run a flat track, 160 ft. runline in 19 turn. seems smoother....i really doubt that it "digs" the nose in as hard on entry as the m.c. i plan on running it in stock at the 'birds as weel as 19 turn. some of the mod guys still prefer the turn-in of the monte carlo, but i'm sold on the dodge!

SMROCKET 12-27-2004, 12:15 PM Thats good news Dusty ,,,,, Look for you at the Birds ,, SRM
davepull 12-27-2004, 04:39 PM so do you think the HD monte needs a wing for stock???
JPHRacer 12-27-2004, 05:31 PM The R/T aint going to rip the car into the turn as hard as the m/c will. But it should free up a stuck 19 or stock car.
Wether you run a wing probably has a lot to do with the ammount of rake that you put into it when mountin the body. The more rake the more Down force your going to get and the better chance you'll have at getting away with no wing.
SMROCKET 12-28-2004, 12:47 PM After going down there for the last 4 years [is it that long] and seeing the stock guys who are fast they aalways have a wing mounted on the body and very low ....ADAM BROWN won last year with a BOLINK DODGE or D type as they call it .....the year before it was Talbot winning with a PROTOFORM dodge [and Lil Pete was TQ that year with a BOLINK D type ....You will need to the wing to hold the rear down in the corners BUt very low to not hurt down the straights ..

davepull 12-28-2004, 04:57 PM thanks Guys
davepull 12-28-2004, 10:22 PM hey Rocket a while back some guys were asking about repairing scratched chassis and I said I clear coated them with ppg dau75 here are some pics of my L4 I did yesterday.

Todd Putnam 01-08-2005, 12:20 PM Just rec'd word from the Aero-Gods that our new 1/12th Oval Body should be arriving in about 2 weeks...just in time for the Snowbirds and in time for ROAR submittal / approval for the Oval Nats.
Only LW available, and it will "resemble" the '05 Dodge Charger...
This will be a short-run item with very limited availability, so any die-hard 1/12th racers interested should contact us ASAP via phone. Once they're gone, they're gone...
Thanks,
Todd Putnam

erock1331 01-24-2005, 04:28 PM Just Looking to get some feedback on the Dodge MD body.
How does everybody like it??
I know the 19T record at Classic Hobbies was broken with it.
I think Every car in the Stock A-main at the Halo Hobbies birds warmup had it on.
jason crist 01-24-2005, 04:55 PM Erock
I personaly like the chevy HD lite wieght in 19 turn
it seemed to go into corners for me a little loose than the dodge body did.
the Dodge body seemed to push a little more than the chevy body
Protoform body is a great body
they have one to fit your driving style
later

bluelineracer 01-24-2005, 05:06 PM erock...
from the time i got the custom works car i've been running the r/t. it's never run worse than second. i don't like an overly aggressive feel, so that body has fit me well. my last outing in 19 turn i believe had 7 protoform hd m/c and one r/t in the main. i personally like the looks so much more than the m/c that i pledged to make it work :)
is it a better fit than the old dodge in stock? haven't run stock since the "birds last year and can't decide which to mount.

erock1331 01-24-2005, 05:10 PM Dusty,
To be honest I dont run much flat track, but I know Chris Ulbrik has been tearing up the flat track's in stock with it. I believe he has the track record at New Castle, Halo and another track in Mich with the MD Dodge.
I think guys liked the Old dodge at a large track like the Birds due to it having less drag than the Monte. But the New Dodge does not have much drag so I see it working there as well plus with more steeing than the old Dodge
"Frank Ulbrik" 01-24-2005, 05:12 PM Best stock body their is for flat tracks. :dude:
Tommygun43 01-24-2005, 05:18 PM I like my Dodge alot too. Very light, 3.7 ounces is awsome. Have ran it 3 times, 3 very different tracks and its worked excellent at all of them. I was one complaining about how it mounts but I like it now. Not sure if I like it as much as the Protoform Pontiac yet though.
erock1331 01-24-2005, 05:21 PM Yep the key is to make that RF mount alot taller almost 1/4" taller than the LF mount, to get it to sit how it was intended.
erock1331 01-27-2005, 11:28 AM Somebody asked me a week or 2 ago if I knew anyone who still carried the Old 2001 Dodge body.
Stormer Hobbies has them but in the Regular Weight only.
Shumacher 99 02-01-2005, 11:12 AM Best stock body their is for flat tracks. :dude:
I second that!! 4 Stock on a big flat Oval it was way better than the Chevy HD. I had all the steering that the HD gave me and less drag on the stretches. It just felt more free in the center off. I'm sold!!lol
Todd Putnam 02-05-2005, 03:44 PM If you like it for 1/10th, you'll really like it for 1/12th!
The Aero-Gods have completed the task in the nick of time!!! Our new AERO-1 '05 DC-12 Light Weight/High Downforce 1/12th Oval Body has just rolled out of the wind tunnel in time for the Snowbirds. This body weighs about 9-10 grams less than the other currently available 1/12th Oval bodies, and includes some new, innovative features:
-Updated Length and Width Aero Package for today's current design 1/12th Oval cars
-(4) Molded Fender Braces (can be added for additional bracing and support)
-Bolt On Rear Spoiler
-New High Down Force Aero Package
-Utilizes the Latest 2005 Nextel Cup Body Design and Aero Technologies
-Exterior Clear Overspray Paint Film included
We will have these available at the Snowbirds!!!

wildman 02-06-2005, 02:26 PM The new dodge r/t works great in 19t. Set t.q. won and Track record s-roc raceway. car is on rails with the new body.

Fireball929 02-19-2005, 01:28 PM Just wondering what people cut the rear spoiler down to on the new dodge r/t bodies?
I run stock with no wing.
Thanks,
Fireball929
VA.RACER 02-19-2005, 10:23 PM I ran the Dodge in Expert 19T A main at the birds and it was fast and very stable.
Fireball 929: I cut just over 1/8 inch off spoiler, but we had a wing on .
FoamDonut 02-19-2005, 11:41 PM Fireball Roberts just cut the spoiler on the body lines and bolt it on. The Dodge body will be perfect for your track. Steve
Fireball929 02-20-2005, 03:11 AM Thanks guys. I cut about a 1/4 inch off the spoiler and the car actually pushed but the new body seemed really good.

Now that I finally have the Paragon out of my system, I wanted to congradulate all the oval racers who used PROTOform race bodies while in competition at the 2005 edition of the awsome "Snowbirds Nationals." PROTOform appeared to be the overwhelming favourite race-body of the oval crowd and accounted for the TQ position and the A-Main winner of every pan-car class except one. Great job by you all!

PRO MOD: WINNER & TOP QUALIFIER - SEAN COCHRAN
FACTORY MOD 6CELL: WINNER AND TOP QUALIFIER - FRANK POLIMEDA
I saw some amazing speed and driving skill during my 3 days there and I was also impressed with the extremely high level of professionalism displayed in your chassis & body preparation. You guys in the A-mains really "looked like" the best RC oval racers in the world. Can't wait till next year!
A sincere thankyou for supporting PROTOform Race Bodies - Dale Epp :)
Shumacher 99 02-22-2005, 02:35 PM Dale is there any 12th scale oval bodies avaliable. It seems that 12th scale oval is makeing a comeback but products are few and far between. I love the Dodge MD body and would like one for my 12th scale. Any thing in the works or do I have to run other molders bodies. I have tried all the 1 10th scale body makers and will only run protoform . But in this case I have no choice.
travymoto1 02-22-2005, 03:20 PM previosly postedA very good question flrglock. As much as I would like to do a 1/12th oval body or two, the demands on my time just never seem to allow it. Trying to supply world-class bodies for 1/10th sedans (both "race" and enthusiast styles), 1/8th and 1/12th on-road bodies etc tends to keep me pretty busy. Not to mention that these other body styles outsell 1/12th oval bodies about a 1000 to 1.
BUT - it sounds like help might be on the way. Todd Putnam has apparently been talking to some guy with NASCAR links who might develope a 1/12th stock car mold for PUTNAM PRO-PULSION. Sounds interesting anyway.

I knew that.....ooops
kevina250 02-23-2005, 01:30 PM I think Barry Hill was on something differant. Might want to check. Pics show something with differant decal.
Dale Epp 02-23-2005, 04:01 PM :drunk: I stand corrected. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I gave Barry Hill a call for clarification because I was positive I saw a PROTOform Dodge MD with his colors and stickers in his pit area. He did in fact have one, but never did have a chance to mount it and try it. My apologies to all parties affected. I'd like to blame the Paragon and 3 hour sleeps but..... I just wrongly "assumed" a little too much.

kevina250 02-23-2005, 07:00 PM LOL Oh that stuff can get to you.
