David Butts 09-24-2006, 11:11 AM After a year or more hiatus from dirt oval racing, I'll be trying my new RC4LESS dirt oval foams this coming saturday. Got the new RC4LESS, Pedano Racing Products, Hurricane racing, Paint by Focker, Jakes Performance Hobbies #71TC3 latemodel all painted up and ready to turn left on the Kitty litter surface at NewReds indoor racing facility in Ocala Fl.
If I do well you'll read about it here. If I do bad, I 'm sure Clifford Kline will post that up here also:rolleyes: . Hmm, Maybe after this trip I'll slap a side dam and a hotter motor in it and head up to Pooler Ga. for some indoor short track action? I hear Anthony's has a fun group of racers up there too.

johnqpublic 09-29-2006, 02:26 PM Question for Bruce...
I see you are selling axles w/ the "D" ring set-up....but I'll be darned if I can find any "D" ring hubs on your site.......Do you, or are you going to carry any?
rctom243 09-29-2006, 02:46 PM I think their 1/12 Hubs are D-Ring and their 1/10 hubs are standard round rings.
johnqpublic 09-30-2006, 08:10 AM 12th scale dosent do me any good. any plans for 10th?
Lester24 09-30-2006, 09:05 PM Ok, you guys might think I'm crazy here, but A few races in stock last year, I tried a Cream LR Tan RR and 2 purples up front. Actually worked really well. 90% of the time Though I run Purple RF, Black LF, White LR, Cream RR for stock. I also agree Jerry is putting you on the right path. Hey Latemodel how's it going? School treating you ok? I see you kind of let your NASCAR yahoo fantasy team go. Guess I'll just have to whoop Katfish by myself. Good talking to you the other day Bruce! Haven't really gotten to talk to you enough this year. I still have lots of 1/12th scale oval wisdom I'd like to get from you. Hey By the way, what do you guys think of the X motor for carpet oval, I'm gonna be racing on calandra ozite with about a 140-145ft drive line. Anybody give the X a try yet? Or am I better off sticking with my CO27's.

Lester24 09-30-2006, 09:26 PM Hey Bruce, did I ever tell you that I'm being trained as the backup blimp pilot for the Everett Hawks, our local arena football team. Pretty fun getting to fly the blimp, you get to drop coupons on the crowd. Flying is sure different than driving, wish that blimp had a pistol grip controller. Also might be eventually filling in for our hockey team sometime, the Everett Silvertips. Don't pay anything, but its kind of a fun privelege to do it and I've gotten to take some people to some games free. They Silvertips asked me to test an RC truck on the Ice as an half time entertainment deal, got myself a really bright body and put RC4Less stickers all over it. Was pretty fun, got to drive in front of thousands of people. It was an Emaxx I was driving, it got around ok, just couldn't make any sudden moves and had to allow room to stop. Could probably use some better traction. Gets around as good as the mascots quad though.

Lester24 09-30-2006, 09:49 PM By the way, on our club website, we've been trying to startup a section called rookie advice, where we fill out a setup sheet and people can use it as a starting point to get going in some of the classes. Here is my setup sheed from Skagit River Raceway in Mt Vernon. If anyone can think of someone they can think of any people just starting out that they can pass this on to for a starting point. Please feel free to go ahead. It even explains how to calculate rollout and some other rookie tips.

Thanks for the help! I ran pinks and purples - traction came up Saturday so I needed the funky tires we talked about haha!! (Creams, whites, and greys)
RC4less 10-08-2006, 11:30 AM Hey Mike good job. Sorry we didn't have time to get the FedEx truck to you. But it sounds like you made a respectable showing for sure.
JBM the 2007 Snowbirds Bounty will be back in full force for sure!
In fact there will be another Bounty coming up a little sooner than the Birds. Tires will be a little bigger for this one though.

jonnycash 10-08-2006, 01:21 PM quick question... Does anybody clean the rc4less tires between rounds? If so, what do you use? Thanks, Jon
davepull 10-08-2006, 01:32 PM yes I do clean them and I use kingsford charcoal lighter fluid
jonnycash 10-08-2006, 01:46 PM yes I do clean them and I use kingsford charcoal lighter fluid
interesting... Do you do it every round or per day?
latemodel100 10-08-2006, 01:48 PM I use regular lighter fluid right after every round then let it dry alittle then befor the race put the dope back on and go
jonnycash 10-08-2006, 03:26 PM Thanks, I'll give it a try.
microman14 10-09-2006, 09:23 PM are the rating on the rc4less tires the higher rating or lower rating cause i got a set of trc greys and a set of rc4less grey and they seem pretty close to hardness. just wonderingi was running a trc white and grey rear and was thinking that would be a cream and a tan right??
davepull 10-09-2006, 11:54 PM um it depends on which trcs you were running there are 3 types of trc's out there right now there was the older style black rim then the yellow rims now they have a black rim that looks a awful lot like a jaco rim.
for flat carpet I have found that these compounds work best for me
LF cream RF black
LR white RR cream.
I'll do some checking and get back to yah.
Lester24 10-10-2006, 03:05 AM Actually, I spray them with duratrax motor spray and wipe clean, cleans really good, dries almost immediatly. Usually only have to do the compounds that gum up, like say a purple on the right front. That one I would do every round. Whites and creams in the rear, I never do anything too.

microman14 10-10-2006, 07:00 AM reedy motor spray on a shop clot is the best %100 try it
jbm38 10-10-2006, 08:12 AM Will there be a BOUNTY at the "BIRDS" for '07?
smokefan 10-10-2006, 12:39 PM I use Robinson lighter fluid it seems to work the best for me.

Good call Lester. I also use Motor spray on some of my tires. Like Lester said though, Usually on the tire compounds with higher rubber content such as: Pink, Magenta, Purple. Just spray on and wipe with a shop towel until you don't see black coming off on your towel anymore. Then you know you are good to go.
I do not have a problem with the exotic compounds like: White, Cream, Tan, Grey, Black, or Hard Black, and I do not use cleaner on these at all.
latemodel100 10-12-2006, 04:51 PM All I use is lighter fluid alittle cheaper than motor cleaner adn works just as well, plus I think it does not dry them out as much, I have spread motor cleaner adn about an hour later they feel dry, and using light fluid they feel foamy not dry........ JMO
RCRacer00 10-15-2006, 12:54 PM Looking for some help with these tires for carpet racing. I know most use these on asphalt or concrete. For those that have in the past or today. What is a good compound combination for 1/10 scale pancar banked carpet. I used gray rears and black and h. black on front. Car had way too much bite(traction roll). I should add that they were only cut to 2.25. I thought about going lower to see what the results maybe. What are some recommendations? Thanks in advance.
davepull 10-16-2006, 12:08 AM racer00 try this
RC4Less tires tack trackrecord at K/N in 10th mod by nearly 2 laps.Old track record was 64 402 new record 66 403.I ran a hard black rf soft black lf tan rr and a cream lr.Good job bruce. How you making out on the 12th blacks. Thanks John H.

Sounds like to much weight transfer as a result of the front suspension being too soft But Maybe check a few things on the car set-up in addition to the tire compounds you are running. For starters if you are traction rolling check to make sure your ride height is not too high. Next I would see if you have enough leftside weight. Make sure the battery is secure and not moving while cornering. After that make sure you have a stiff enough right front or front springs to keep the car from nosediving on entry. Also, you may not want to use any tire softener on the right front tire if you are doing so. Once you have checked these things, then I would try some different tire compounds....
You may also be too firm in the rear with your Grey tires. You want your rear tires to be soft and have lots of grip on a banked track. Your front tire combo with the LF: Black and RF: H.Black should work good, but maybe go softer in the rear and add some Wedge or Cross weight to the chassis to force the left rear down and cause the car to push, this will help also with traction rolling. Once your car is stable it is much easier to set-up from there.
On the flat track my favorite starting point for most racing on Ozite is:
LF: Black RF: Purple
LR: White RR: Cream
I soften Both Rear tires, Full left front and 1/3 inner right front w/ Paragon.
If the traction comes up on the track for stock racing I will put a Tan on the right Rear with this set-up. Works Awesome.
On a banked carpet track I would run the same set-up accept maybe try the Hard black on the right front instead of the Purple if you have to much oversteer or right front bite. Or another option is two front purple tires.
The combonations are limitless, but here are some suggestions that should get you on your way.
It is good though to get feedback from different drivers though. What works for someones driving style doesn't always apply to someone elses driving style.
It has been a while since I have raced Banked Carpet, but these where some of the things that I found to be helpful.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
