Anyone use XoftSpy to get rid of spyware?

I ran their free scanning and it says I have a 187 files
that are spyware (Claria, EUniverse Flowgo, SAH Agent, Backweb,
AdDestroyer, Alexa, BargainBuddy, Downloadware, Favouriteman,
Hotbar, IPInsight, NetPal, Savenow, WebHancer, Belcaro, Alexa,
Bat/Mumu-A, Tracking Cookie, Claria Datemanager, Keenvalue Incredifind,
etc... Unbelievable load of crap. But to remove them you have to register.

So before I do that I thought I would ask if anyone uses this
software.

Thanks,

James :)

Danger Will Robinson!

It's scumware. (http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=24563)

Stick with lavasoft ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) or spybot search and destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html).

You can dowload them for free at www.download.com, and they are really free with no registering a password, surveys, giving your email address, etc.. ....

Thanks!

Got Spybot. Downloaded it, ran it, and it deleted 190 files.

Only one file Hotbar remains. Says it can't delete it as it is
being used. ???

Anyway, Thanks again.

James :)

Hit Crtl Alt Delete and see if Hotbar is running. Then shut it down and try again. Or try a different program like Adaware. And watch where you surf from now on.

Use Spybot AND Ad-Aware. Each one finds and gets rid of things the other one doesn't.

Just be careful the first time you run each one after the other is installed. Sometimes they detect each other as spyware. Remember to tell it those files are OK.

Even AOL has a pretty good Spyware detector.

But I did have a horrible infestation on my kid's computer and the only thing that worked was system restore. That was nasty!

Also download Hijack This and CWShredder just in case. But be warned for Hijack This...when you run it you may find some enteries that appear with programs you know you run all the time. DO NOT check those...only check the enteries you do not know and then delete them. If you also want a good firewall agent that's program friendly, do a search on the net for Zone Alarm 4.5. 5.0 is not all that program friendly. But yes always constantly run Spybot Search and Destroy as well as Adaware.

If you also want a good free online virus scan that scans for certain virus's other programs don't ...go to the address below. You have to use Internet Explorer to use it though.

And also download AVAST Anti-Virus. :) I've got all these programs espically Zone Alarm 4.5 and I haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps.

My buddy who works at a bank on their puters told me about spybot and ad aware and they seemed to help.Been having pop up problems and that took care of most of them ,then I downloaded the Windows XP Service pak 2 and that took care of the rest.

Popup problems? Download Panicware popup blocker. I've been using it the past year and it works GREAT. Nothing seeps through. :) However if you want to preview stuff like from Federation Models you'll have to double click on the little hand on your system tray to disable it and preview the picture. Or any other things you know will open but are on a seperate window.

Start your computer in "safe mode". Hit PF8 while booting and a boot menu will come up. One of the options is to start in safe mode.

Safe mode loads only the programs necessary to give you a display. Run spybot and/or ad-aware during safe mode. This way they can completely delete offending software because it hasn't loaded yet.

Also make sure you have the lastest file definitions downloaded (check for updates) for spybot and ad-aware.

You may have to go through this cycle a couple of times.

Well if you're on a PC, you'd hit F5 to reboot in safe mode...
