his was on the digital bits:
It's official, folks. After saying they were and then saying they weren't, Paramount is again saying that they ARE recalling the Star Trek: Generations - Special Collector's Edition so that the inaccurate spec listing on packaging can be corrected. The title will NOT be released on 9/7 as originally scheduled. Naturally, since the discs have already shipped out to retailers, many copies will still find their way into consumers' hands on 9/7. Whatever you do, DON'T pay a huge price for the disc on eBay. Paramount expects to announce the revised street date soon, so don't get ripped off by unscrupulous types on the secondary market. The title is still coming, and sooner rather than later. We'll give you the new date as soon as Paramount sends it over.

Paramount SUCKS!!! Why did they have to wait to the last minute to do this????

All that over a simple text mispriint on the package? Hell, I don't care! Anthony, if you have a copy, I'll still buy it from you.

Not only that but the Friday the 13th boxed set is going to blow huge chunks...NO uncut scenes, NO deleted scenes etc...REALLY BAD!

Dude, there are a lot of decaffeinated brands out there that are just as tasty as the real thing.

They're just correcting a typo. Let it go. The disc will be here eventually.

My point was they knew of the error, were gonna release it on time then decided to recall it at the last minute. They could have fixed the problem a lot sooner.

What's a short delay? At least you know it's being released. Plenty of films are being sat on because the studio has no interest, and plenty more get crappy bottom-of-the-barrel treatment. They won't even release Arthur in anything but pan&scan!

I picked up a copy yesterday at BJ's wholesale club for $11.99. Very nice transfer, and includes a DTS track. The extras are a little nicer than the last couple of "Special Editions". And at least the pics on the disc are from the right movie.

What do you mean by it has a DTS track?

DTS is another surround sound audio track, very much like Dolby 5.1. DTS typically is touted as sounding better than Dolby. I believe that is because DTS does not compress the audio file as much as Dolby does.

From what I understand, enough of the "mis-printed" discs made their way to retailers that they should be available if you don't want to wait. I was at Wal-Mart earlier and I can't believe I forgot to check for it -- silly me.

This falls into the category of "just my luck".

I went to Future Shop this morning with a list of 5 new DVD releases that I want to buy. I didn't expect that they'd have all of them. Turns out, they had none. They didn't have one copy of ANYTHING on my list.

Guess what they did have on the shelf.

They had about 40 copies of the ST GENERATIONS SPECIAL COLLECTORS EDITION. Of course, Trek is a bit too lame for my taste so I had no interest in it. But I couldn't help being struck by the irony of the fact that I had this opportunity to get my hands on something that so many people want...but the things that I want are MIA.

Here's a postscript. I checked every store in town for the movies I wanted. Needless to say: no luck. But I returned to Future Shop about 4 hours after my intitial vist and all the ST Generations CE discs were gone. There was just a big, empty shelf. I guess the store realized they made and error and pulled them.

Not everybody shipped theirs back like they were supposed too. I have a hard time selling DVDs in my store as it is.

... or, an enterprising eBayer is about to make a tidy profit.

After spending close to $600 dollars for the single discs, I'll be a targ's chew toy before I spend another $260+ for the season sets.

Anyone who wanted a copy of the Generations SE probably has one by now. They certainly aren't scarce. I picked a copy up this morning from one retailer for $12.87. I stopped by several other retailers on the way home and all but one had them out for sale - and plenty of them to boot.

I just finished watching all of the disc 2 extras, and I have to say that this is definitely the best set of special features so far of any Star Trek DVD release. Bar none. If you like models and special effects, this is the one to get.

I had to journey back to town last night to go to Lowe's (they have incredibly cheap phone cards when it comes to making international calls). I went by Wal-Mart while i was there, and though they had a slot marked for Generations, that slot was empty. But wait -- it gets worse. The slot was next to the one for season three of Alias -- which was on the shelf and, soon enough, in my shopping cart. So I spent more than twice what I intended, but at least I did get something I wanted.

Makes sense; there was probably a better sense of the value of saving behind-the-scenes stuff by that point. I love the movie, flaws and all, and I'm really looking forward to getting it.
