Alien Nazis in the USA! Haaa hahahahahahahahaha!

It would be funny if it weren't so sad. At least we got Bobby Bacala to bring along some baked ziti!

STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE - "Storm Front"

After destroying the Xindi superweapon, ARcher and the Enterprise crew are mysteriously thrust back in time to the 1940s Earth to find the Nazis have invaded the U.S. with the help of a strange alien race, on the season premiere of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 PM on UPN.

Golden Brooks (UPN's GIRLFRIENDS) and Joe Maruzzo and Steven R. Schirripa (THE SOPRANOS) Guest Star

Having mysteriously survived destroying the Xindi superweapon, a battered Archer awakes to find himself back on Earth in the 1940s in the custody of Nazi-uniformed aliens and SS agents, who have successfully helped Germany invade the United States, but when he finally breaks free, Archer joins forces with American resistance fighters Alicia Travers (guest star Golden Brooks), Sal (guest star Joe Maruzzo) and Carmine (guest star Steven R. Schirripa) to stop the aliens from destroying America and the future, on the season premiere of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, Friday, Oct. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT)

Maybe they borrowed the concept from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow?

Relax, John.

This ep was written back under Bervis & Braghead's command. Give it a few eps to get their poison out of the system so we can see what this guy Coto does with things. Supposedly, Coto LIKES TOS, isn't afraid to admit it, and has ideas about how to straighten everything out.

I hear the Reeves-Stevens are on staff this year too. I'm anxious to see if even they can pull this thing out of the crapheap.

You know one of those three guest stars are going to pull their face off (Or have it knocked off in battle)and be revealed as an alien spy, don't you?

Yeah, and they would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids and their dog!

It'll be the one who grows closest to one member of the crew, not the one that acts like a surly alien spy...

Right. The one who acts like a surly alien spy will prove himself in the end by dying heroically.

Remember in THE WORLD OF STAR TREK, David Gerrold wrote a synopsis of an episode using all of the original series worst cliches (7 foot amazons in metal breastplates, a monomaniacal computer that is defeated by a logical paradox, Scotty having trouble with the double-talk generators)? Has anyone done something similar with ENTERPRISE? Or any of the sequal series for that matter?

I'm disappointed. It's not the greatest show but I enjoy it. I was really hoping it was the "Mirror Mirror" dimension. THAT would have at least been something different. Maybe the guy in the mask is the mysterious figure giving orders to the Suliban(sp?) and they'll wrap this whole storyline up.

I guess the thing that bugs me about this whole alien Nazi thing is that it trivializes the horrors that the Nazis did in real life. Even if today we haven't quite learned how to behave better (see modern day Sudan), at least the Nazi era serves both as a lesson of man's inhumanity to man and it established the benchmark of when a regime has gone too far (the word "genocide" wasn't coined until after WWII).

Today there are people who claim that the Holocaust didn't exist. Now we have this fictional* story that says something along the line that the Nazis did what they did because they were being manipulated by aliens. Am I the only one who's irritated by this?

José

*Yes fictional, but you know how some Star Trek fans can be

John P

Nope. I am too.

I've noticed over the years, that B&B trivialize EVERY freaking thing in the Trek universe. We didn't seem to invent much of anything ourselves.

Zephram Cochrane may have developed warp drive, but he needed encouragement from the future to use it.

We didn't invent photon torpedos, we found them on a Klingon wreck.

We didn't invent holodecks, we stole the idea from aliens.

Kirk was amazed that he'd actually stumbled onto unheard-of time travel in The Naked Time, yet Archer's crew did it as often as the showered.

Spock was amazed the Romulans had developed a cloak, despite Archer's crew having first-hand experience.

No one knew about Vulcan marriage rituals in TOS, but T'Pol has explained the whole thing to Trip and Archer.

On and on and on....

Doesn't it bother you that the NAZIs are frequently used as the prototypical Hollywood villains? Their being used in the Raiders of the Lost Ark series seemed along the same lines. I mean, for crying out loud, they had Hitler himself in the third one!

If anything, the Commies should be given at least equal time. They've killed several times more than Hitler dreamed of killing (at a conservative estimate) but we don't see as much of them.

Where does one draw the line regarding good taste and choice of movie villains?

That's one thing that really bugged me about Battlestar Galactica and Stargate1. Humans were incapable of building the pyramids? :freak:

Nazis and Nazi symbolisms(ie:the swastika) represent evil in our culture on an iconic level. That's why they are favorite bad guys. Because of the way we are raised and taught about Nazi Germany we react to them on a different level. It's so imprinted on me that I can imagine Hitler in hell watching the events of 9/11 and shaking his head, muttering "Amateurs!" Yes, Hitler does get to watch TV in hell because he's the devil's right hand man. SEE WHAT I MEAN!
It's only logical to use Nazi's as the villians in a story from that era. In the case of Indiana Jones, these movies are based on old serials where the Nazis were the bad guys. Raiders in directly based on The Secret Service in Africa with Clayton Moore as a U.S Secret Service agent trying to beat the Nazis to finding the sword of Ghengis Khan. The Nazi's want it because legend tells that all the Arab tribes will follow whoever possesses it. I think this is the one with the sword, it may be the scroll of Muhammed or something. They all start running together after you watch enough of them.
I remember in high school the history teacher reading from Insise the Third Reich. There was a mountain road in Germany that had a dangerously sharp curve and drop-off. The was a triffic sign posted that read"Dangerous Curve 5 MPH". Next to it was another sign that read "Jews 55 MPH Minimum". I have always remembered that.

Better to use the Wobblies. Or better yet, the rebels for starting a war to preserve a slave economy.

Coto's got a lot of fixin' to do to turn this thing around. He seems very sincere about attempting to set things straight in regard to making the events consistent with the timeline in respect to the original series. B&B have done a lot of damage over the past three years (not to mention First Contact) to the Star Trek "history". I wish him well, and may actually watch some more episodes this season to see if he has any success.

I'm sincerely hoping that the lack of money may actually benefit the show in forcing to be much more creative and imaginative in their writing to carry the show, rather than throwing money at something to give it a lot of glitz with virtually no substance. I could certainly put up with more stock flyby's of the ship and shooting in HD rather than film, if it means that we will be greeted with stories that are compelling and actually fit within the timeline as depicted in the original series. Opening up to allow for story submissions from real science fiction writers certainly couldn't hurt, either.

Please remember that swastikas were never evil or bad symbols. The swastika used by hitler and his gang is an old Christan symbol of the cross that Jesus died on.

The swastika is also a holy symbol representing Budda. It is still very much in use in many of the Asian/India regions where Budda is revered. There one may be told that the swastika is Budda's feet.

It is a shame and pity that the swastika came to be used/perverted to mean hitler/nazi.

I haven't kept up with the "latest" production news (mainly because I don't care anymore). Could someone clarify something? I thought Berman had convinced Paramount & Viacom that he was sent down from heaven by God Himself to oversee Star Trek. I get the feeling from a few posts in this thread that Manny Coto now officially in charge. Is this true? What happened to B&B?
