Why don't you commemorate his birthday instead and then it can be a happy day!

Remember his life, not his death. :)

I don't know...

If I was a serious fan of Lon Chaney, I'd probably celebrate both his birthday and his deathday* (I'm a Harry Potter fan, so shoot me :-) ). Watch a marathon of his films on both nights, and raise a toast during both, and I'd try to be fitting in the drunken toast on his deathday, something, like, "Raise a glass to Lon, he might be dead, but he's not really gone! And who among the dearly departed could portray, if need be, a more convincing zombie! WHO!?!", looking around daring all those in attendance to utter a discouraging word, then sways, "THAT'S RIGHT!!!", suppresses a beer hiccup, "NO ONE! So God bless's yah Lon!" (follow this with a group sing of "In Heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here!")

*Deathday, is like an Irish wake held in anniversary.
