I'll talk to Jason Toebe at Road Rage Hobbbyspeedway. Great facility and would be kinda cool to see a roar event north of milwaukee.

Mike,

Scotty and I already talked....even about a nats bid. Scotty took a pass as he is lookign to do things at the shop this winter. The reschedule maybe part of it. So maybe next year. We'll have to work over the new region director then.

Hey Kenny, How about some Ohio Tracks.....they are apart of region 5 also. Not Everything has to be in Wisconsin. He had a great race yesterday which held 50 of some of the best asphalt oval racers around. The carpet seasons are even stronger. Last year we had an avg. of about 60 racers a weekend. I would think it would be a great place to boast Roar Memberships!

Later,
Rick Liehr

id be up fo classic.. have walt contact roar.. thats what needs to happen.. wisconsin doesnt get everything......michigan had it last year..

Kenny B

Rick....waitng for someone to step up. Ohio has a strong off-road and on-road following. I am very familar with Walt and his gang....I have spent many a lap at that track. Ohio isn't ignored by any means....you just need to jump up say hey...we'll do it. As far as regionals for carpet oval....2003 Hobby Hub in Lansing, MI...2002 Trackside...2001 Classic Hobbies.....sounds like rotation. Paved oval has been a different beast. Triclone has filled in since there have been no interested tracks for this year, Indy and Greg June ran it in 2003, and Tri-clone the year before to get the region back in its feet. Paved region events have been slow especially without track like Shiloh and nobody else wanting to run an event.

As far as memebrships and registered tracks....thanks to the work of Walt henderson, John Kohan, the Mars Series guys, Nick T....the region is now the second largest in ROAR with registered ROAR tracks and 2nd or 3rd with registered members.....a far cry from three years ago....and we're still climbing! July through August was 200+ member gain/renewal!

Burbs....racing is pretty much out on a regular basis. None of the local track schedules will fit in between the work life and home activities. Trackside moving to Saturday when Nickie works took the Friday night away, Thursday back at Oshkosh are a conflict with Scouts, Tuesday at Road Rage in GB doen't fly either because of a school night and Eric is dedicated to Sylvan until 6 pm each Tuesday and Wednesday. Sundays are the only day all four family memebrs are home....So it looks like national events and Snowbirds where I can use soem of my 4 weeks of vacation. But getting on the track depends on Designated ROAR official needs for those events which won't allow me to race or how much coverage R/C Car Action wants for Snowbirds.

As far as region director....with the increased exposure and dedication to oval by ROAR and the need for focal point for region directors, I accepted and appointment ot the ROAR ExComm as Track Administrator. In doing so I can not run the region and participate fully on the board. Hopefully I can lead all the region directors in assigning races for all classes in all regions.

Time for bed.....Rick things are always changing...but help is always needed. Give it some thought. Even if a regionals won't work this year, we can assign next years!

i know there talking about trying green bay wisconsin track.. i think it is a good location if u live in wisconsin, but not for out of staters.. most guys travel 4-8 hours toi run in milwaukee.. add another two hours onto that... i think it might scare some people off...but i live in wisconsin, so it dont matter to me.. i would mind seeing it at classic either.. id like to run some banks

Classic would be a good choice.....It would be a good warm up for the ARCOR open held at Classic in March plus if it would be held before the Norrca nats at Sandhills it would be a good warm up for that race since setups for both tracks are similar. just some food for thought......I'll bounce it off Walt and see what he says.

Kenny B,
How long should we expect to wait before a decision is made?

Just curious cause Nov/Dec is coming fast and time will be necessary for promoting the race and gathering sponsors.

pit space uis never an issue... classic hold pretty close tot hat to.. regionals usualy only get 30-60 guys tops...... iots been on flat tracks for 3 years, and it was in michigan last year, so i hope classic gets it..

Beero

I agree. But we need to know soon, some people including myself have to get vacation time or trades for work arranged for big races. also the track needs time to get sponsors. so when will we expect a result?

John Warner

In the same note, I can't remember the last time it was held in Grand Rapids, MI.
When was the last time it was held at Classic?

burbs
10-13-2004, 01:54 AM
classic was a few years ago...for nationals.. not sure when regionals was if ever.. last year it was in lansing.. roar usually doesnt do the same state two years in a row, if there is another bid from a diff part of the region... its been on flat track the last two years i know... need to give the banks some track time to...i dont care where it is held.. i just want to try some banks.. been a long long tiime..

erock1331
10-13-2004, 09:01 AM
When was the last time it was held at Classic?
Classic held the ROAR nats in 2002.
I have been racing for about 4 years at Classic and they have never held a ROAR Region race in that time span.

But as Beero said ROAR needs to decide one way or another who gets it so proper planning can go into promoting the race and gathering sponsors. I was an ARCOR director for a while so I know planning a race does not happen over night. And it will be November here shortly.....

Guy's all be making the necessary calls this week. I have been on the road or behind my desk at work since my last post. Past regionals went 2001 Classic, 2002 Trackside, 2003 Lansing, 2004 TBD. I have been region director for three years and a region event each time.
