Dark Horizons is reporting that Serenity is just one of a trilogy of "Firefly" movies. And that before the release Universal is going to release an animated
Firefly prequel to bridge between the series and movies.

And heres a quick look at the movie poster that was on display at comicon in San Diego: http://images.countingdown.com/images/countdowns/movies/3123201/1011/3486996_main.jpg

COOL!
More movies would be great.
Not really interested in an animated prequel though.

At least it's a prequel to the movie, but takes place after the series. I'm not really interested in an animated thing either, particularly not if it's just a promotional gimmick. Still, if it's written and overseen by WHedon, I'll give it a shot.
They did the same thing with Chronicles of Riddick. A straight-to-dvd animated thing was released, supposdly gapping Pitch Black to the new movie. Poor timing (released after the movie?) and almost no publicity whatsoever. But it was done by the guy who did Aeon Flux, and I've always hated the look of his work - at least, his hideously ugly rendering of human beings.
Anyway, it looks like a trend.

So is this a cable movie or to be released to theaters?

Universal also did this with VAN HELSING. $10 for a 35 minute program and a bunch of promotional material. Maybe worth a Netflix rental.
