won one of the two someone out bid me less than 15 sec to the close under stand why they do it keeps the price down by not allowing me to out bid them

To be honest I rarely bid before the 1 minute mark....I ALWAYS wait to snipe auctions.......

LOL, I'm still on dial up....in fact, I live so far out in the woods that some of the wire out here is still copper....no fiber optic lines...LOL.

Also, I want to say that I didn't snipe that auction Luke......I haven't bid on anything tonight......I just wanted you to know....in case you thought I did snipe you after my comment I made.

hey if you want to snipe go ahead if i got everything i bid on i would need to buy a bigger house instead of 200 cars i would probably have 500 or more.

Why snipe yourself when you can get the software to do it for you. It actually saves me money as I don't overbid on stuff anymore.

I got sniped by someone years ago on an auction for an original DragonLance (Dungeons & Dragons) Boxed set. That was the first & last time I used Ebay. It wouldn't have been so bad but he outbid me by a penny & the seller had the nerve to mail me & let me know he just started another auction for the same set but still in it's shrinkwrap. I was mad at the time so I told him where he could shove it if he didn't want to let me buy the 1st one for 2 pennies more than the other guy bid.

Are you kidding? You told the seller to shove it because you weren't given the opportunity to buy the 1st one for a penny more than the auction winner won it for??? Once the item has ended then it's over.......the seller and buyer both have entered into a contract together once the auction has ended.......and the winner was entitled to that item....no matter what you came back and offerred the seller for the item.....it was rightfully the auction winner's item.

Maybe you should go back and real the rules and guidlines for E-bay before you begin actually participating.

I'm sure ebay didn't account for sniping programs when they 1st started up. It gives users (cheaters, thieves) an unfair advantage. I bid on it the night before, got outbid then outbid that one by a dollar the next morning 10 minutes before the auction ended. I refreshed every minute or so to see if someone outbid me & it didn't happen until the auction ended. It's no different than someone grabbing the last loaf of bread in the store out of your hands & buying it just because they made it to the cash register 1st. I was there, I made a legit bid & he grabbed it out of my hands as the cashier was ringing it up.

actually it is completely different, a grocery store is NOT a live auction. Ebay is. If you don't want to lose out on a item place a high bid .

I think the key-word here is "bid" , not "buy". Just look at it this way--If I was selling that loaf of bread through the Ebay format, that means I would like to get as much as I can for it. If you walk up and "bid" one dollar--but I don't actually get the money because you didn't "buy" it--then when someone else steps in front of you and bids two dollars, I would be inclined to take that instead-- but if you countered with three dollars--well, it looks like you'd be eating toast in the morning. It all comes down to who wants to spend the most money at the last second the bread will be available.
Now, I wouldn't sell it to him for a penny more and Ebay doesn't really work like that either. Say you said you'd give me a dollar for the bread--my asking price, but not a penny more. The other guy says he'll give me four dollars as his top price. You find out I'm selling it to him but you don't know how much for, so you change your mind and offer me more than your original "bid". Let's say you offer $3.50. I will still sell it to the other guy because he offered me more in the first place. Since I originally only wanted $1.00 for the loaf, then I will sell it to him for say-- $3.75. That's more than you were willing to pay, but less than his top price and more than he originally thought he would pay for it. Now if another guy comes along at the last minute and offers $5.00, then he gets it for $4.25--less than his top bid but more than the other guy wanted to pay.
Ebay works by allowing the winner to pay just over what the last bidder would spend. :)

cheers..
