SMROCKET 07-16-2004, 04:29 PM Katfish I am pretty sure its a new TRINITY based stock motor .....Heard good things about the new motor we are running stock this weekend to test it out....SRM
katf1sh 07-16-2004, 06:18 PM hmmmmm that oval car looks very familiar? since i'm all growd up i dont play with stock motors anymore! na na na na lol
burbs 07-16-2004, 07:11 PM tyhe new motor looks awesome on the dyno.. most seem to average 70+ on the fantom.. but they dont seem much if any better then the monster on the track...
]
but as with any new motor, there is still gearing and tweaking to work on...
EPIC ROAR Rebuildable Stock Motor
http://www.epicmotorsports.com/images/products/EP1111.jpg
Our latest addition to the EPIC Motorsports line is based on "Binary2" motor technology, but uses standard dual magnets in order to meet allROAR specs. This is the highest revving ROAR spec stock motor ever produced by EPIC. If you thought your "Monster Horsepower Stock" was fast, give one of these babies a try!
gezer2u 07-16-2004, 09:10 PM Nice picture Burb's.
OVAL4EVER 07-18-2004, 09:08 AM I payed a visit to my old dirt oval track, I used to frequent , last weekend.
about 60% of the Guys were useing these motors.
This is a Gearbox track, I.E. A/E, and Losi vehicles, or their trannies on Terminators, and CW cars.
I got the same report from my old buds who still run there, that the motor looks a "bit better" on the dyno, but works about the same on the track so far.
Time will tell if some gearing and tuning homework, will bring the motor further along, or not.
Hopfuly I can get a few good one from "brain"...(hint hint..LOL!) and use some of my present down time to conduct a little "bench tuning"
Burbs, I hate to disagree with you but i bought 5 of them and not one came near 70 . Just over 60. I gave them away to bob prodone. He helps them a little but still just over 60. rpms are high. We traded motors for tires. If you can get those # talk to bob prodone because he nows were to gear them. He makes them fly. Please done take this wrong I am not looking for a arument.
Thanks
ovalnator 07-18-2004, 01:23 PM The site looks the same as the Sureshot website. But in any matter, that new car kit looks pretty sweet!
beekman 07-18-2004, 10:38 PM i do not think it looks alike at all but,i did do sureshots web page for them.i have a case of those motors and i have seen some good numbers on them. from 64 watts to 70 on a fantom dyno.the average rpm is around 23000. i think they run a little bit better than the monster. you may have to gear down because of the high rpm. i also have them for sale on my site along with monsters.all are hand tuned and race ready.just put them in your car and race. as far as the car there will be more available soon.i am having more made and am just waiting for the stuff to come back. www.ripmotorsports.com (http://www.ripmotorsports.com)

TeamGoodwrench 07-19-2004, 01:53 PM FYI: We will be stocking the new RIP Motorsports motors at LEFTHANDER R/C as well.
In addition to the EPIC ROAR Stock PRO motor ( EPIC #1112 ) -- which we have in stock now, we will be carrying Bill's hand-tuned version of it as well !
Good racin' !
Jeff.
beekman 07-20-2004, 11:31 PM i think these are the best motors trinity made to date!!!!
Bill Auchterlonie 07-20-2004, 11:52 PM I just received my new Epic motor from Rip Motorsports today. Looking forward to bolting it in this Friday night. Thanks Undertaker
highroller 07-21-2004, 02:59 AM Looks like they (Epic) just rehashed the Binary Stock motor using 2 magnets to meet ROAR specs.
erock1331 07-21-2004, 09:45 AM Looks like they (Epic) just rehashed the Binary Stock motor using 2 magnets to meet ROAR specs.Sort of
This motor uses the Monster can. The arm is the same type as the Monster/Binary variety, however this arm like the Monster meets the required wire length rule of 64" unlike the Binary which was about 60".
The Monster has 40 laminations, the new EPIC ROAR motor 38 lams and the Binary has 36 lams. The lighter arm produces a bit more RPM than a Monster does, but sacrifices some torque in the process.
At Classic we all ran them 2 weeks ago. A couple of us got some decent ones in the 65-66 watt range, with 23000+ RPM, .92-.94 torque.
But some of the other guys got some really bad ones with bushings drilled on angles which made the motor bind up and some even got ones then the magnets shifted and the arm would not go back in the can. They were not too happy with them. With a good set of brushes it pulled about 9 amps at 2 volts without a fan with 2 red springs. With an average set of brushes I only got about 7 amps out of it.
I was impressed though with the performance of it. I have only had about 4 (42 lap) runs ever on my local track with the Monster motor and the first 2 times out with this new EPIC ROAR motor ran 42 4:03 and 42 4:04, tying my personal best with the 42 4:03 run.
For comparison purposes on my robi dyno @7.5 volts.
My best Monsters are:
128-134 watts
33500-34500 RPM
78-82 Torque
The Epic ROAR on its first build was:
126 watts
34900 RPM
72 Torque
Another thing I noticed was at the 20 amp mark the Epic motor is about 2,000 more RPM than the Monster, but at the 30 amp mark it lost about 1,500 RPM to the Monster. Watts at those steps were significantly lower than my best Monsters as well.
Todd Putnam 07-21-2004, 12:20 PM Hey Bill, Welcome to the motor game! I dig the skulls on your website! With you now becoming a motor guy, maybe Jake will have to get a "bigger blower" on his Dominator for Walt's this year...lol
The New Binary 2 ROAR Stocks are pretty stout. We've rec'd our first cases about 4 weeks ago, so we've had ample time to really compare them. On an average, they are a bit faster than the Monster Stocks. They also average 2-4 watts higher on the CE Turbo Dyno. Not sure about the Fantom Dyno, since we don't use that dyno anymore...a "killer" motor on a Fantom does not reflect its on-track performance at all...
We just rec'd more cases in this week, and I sent a couple to Rodney Bauknecht and Phil Cooper to try in PA. I'll post some more on-track results as soon as I hear back from the boys...
Hope this helps everybody...

What is the Binary 2 ROAR stock?
The discussion above is about the EPIC Roar Stock motor which is not a Binary (Quad magnet motor)?
Now I am confused?@#)#*
beekman 07-21-2004, 06:55 PM Thanks Todd!! that was my car with the blower.lol I have done 100 motors already and on the fantom dyno i have seen numbers from 64 to 69 watts, rpm from 20,000-25,000 and torque from .800+ to .995. Rodney and a few others ran the motors on friday nite at a local dirt track and everyone was happy.rodney was in the grass twice and lost 2 laps and still lapped the field to get those laps back and almost finished 2nd but ended up third(ran outta time)I only got 2 motors that wee not that good. wich is not bad at all.I will redo them and see why they are not as good.I am very pleased with the motors and i believe they are 3 laminations shorter than a monster motor.
Todd Putnam 07-21-2004, 08:39 PM Erock: Trinity has named them the "EPIC Binary 2 ROAR Rebuildable Stk Motor"...it's the same as the new 2 mag motor that everyone is discussing. Hope that clears it up...
Bill: Yeah, I remember! I went in the shop and bought a model, just so I cold put the blower on Jake's car, after I saw yours...and you TQ'd the first round, if I remember correctly...I told Jake you outran him because your car had a blower abdhis didn't...
If you need anything, let me know. If you want to start winding mods, let me know and I'll tell you all the do's and don'ts, and what epoxies, etc. are good and which aren't...
Call me if you have any questions or if you just wanna BS...

erock1331 07-21-2004, 11:51 PM Okay I just thought they were calling it the EPIC ROAR Rebuildable Stock. At least that is what Tower has it listed as:
LXGSZ0 Epic ROAR Rebuildable Stock Motor (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGSZ0&P=7)
Add to Wish List (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTW0191P?&I=LXGSZ0)
I thought anything labeled with the term "Binary" on it, meant it was a quad mag motor.
The quad magnet motor is called the:
LXEXL4 Epic Binary 2 Outlaw Pro Motor (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEXL4&P=7)
beekman 07-24-2004, 05:11 PM hey todd tried to call u but i think your answer machine is shorted out lol give me a call when u can. BILL OSBORN 908 343 3535 www.ripmotorsports.com (http://www.ripmotorsports.com)
Todd Putnam 07-27-2004, 11:07 PM Bill,
Phone tag...you're it.
My answering machine has a mind of its own. It gets screwed up when people don't leave mssgs for some reason... :freak:

fastman 07-27-2004, 11:09 PM These new RIP motors are so fast,i'm having trouble keeping my pinion on.
Thanx for the RIP OZZIE
beekman 07-29-2004, 07:07 PM Lol I Can Get You Some New Pinions. They Are Called Super Grip 2000!!!lol
erock1331 08-02-2004, 12:07 PM It's been out a while now, anyone having any luck with them for oval racing?
I know most locals at our track tried em and went back to the Monster.
I had mine running good 3 weeks ago but ever since can't get it tor run worth a darn.
It seems the gearing is even more critical than a Monster motor. I think if you are about a half tooth off this motor will not run. I tied my fastest ever run then went up a half tooth and it got super hot and fell off then went down a half tooth and it was cold and did not pull any upfront times.
TeamGoodwrench 08-02-2004, 12:39 PM I'll be testing one of the RIP Motorsports ROAR stocks this weekend on a banked concrete oval track -- I've got a setup for the Monster stocks that is ballistic there, so I have a good baseline to measure it against.
More later...
beekman 08-08-2004, 12:47 PM Thanks Jeff.We also tested the motors at trax 70 this weekend(concrete tri oval) and the top qualifier was running one and 2nd qualifier was too.It was a R I P front row.it was a good turnout in the PAUL HEITZ memorial race.4 rounds and mains.
Anytime72 08-08-2004, 08:28 PM The Rip Stock motor made some great power this past weekend at Trax 70. Motors had some real yank.
TeamGoodwrench 08-09-2004, 10:40 PM I ran my personal best this weekend with the RIP motor -- good motors !
Thanks for the power Bill ! Glad to be carrying the motors on our site.

davepull 08-24-2004, 01:18 AM so what is everybody running for a brush and spring in these motors. I have been running 4499's with red springs in the monsters.
Todd Putnam 08-24-2004, 11:24 AM We start with a Purple Spring/Green Brush on the positive, and either a Purple or Red Spring with a Blue Brush on the Negative, depending on the application...

left turner 08-24-2004, 11:25 AM ran one last weekend on oval first heat not bad , came alive after that. good motor.
davepull 08-24-2004, 03:50 PM TP thanks for the 411 I got one of yours coming from RC4Less . I have read that some of the guys out west are cutting .010 of the brush to run 1/10 oval have you tried that yet?
Another thing I know that everymotor is different but I found a rollout for my monster that it really likes have you found that these motors are close to the same or is it way off.
CBear3 08-27-2004, 11:05 AM Haven't run one of these yet, Fastlane was darn near out by the time I got there. But, one did break the track record three times last night, and our resident on-roader was running a stocker right with the 19t boys tuesday night. Impressive performances from guys who have always seemed to do a great job tuning motors of their own.
Impdog 08-27-2004, 11:20 PM Got 2 of these motors out of the package and onto the fantom one a 64 and one a 63 @92 tor. going to indy velodrome in am.will try them in 6cell nastruck will let everyone know how they do there when we get back.
Mr.fastman 08-28-2004, 04:16 PM Hey Bill I love these motors you sold me.
Todd Putnam 08-29-2004, 07:08 PM DavePull: When you receive your motor, you'll see what we've done to the brushes...
As for rollout, these motors seem to like a little less rollout than a Monster-based stock. For 6 cell Oval, (only thing that runs here in the summer besides offroad) we drop 1-2 teeth for starters. Hope this helps...

davepull 08-29-2004, 08:49 PM I got my motor and I saw what you did. looks good. I tried it with my monster gear and it seem like it needed more. I went up a tooth (I know) ran my fastest lap time 7.1 but fell off to 7.6 last lap. So i think I'll try one tooth lower than the monster.
Thanks for the help
Impdog 08-29-2004, 10:51 PM TQ and new track record in 6 cell nastruck at velodrome ran 5 teeth less than were we gear a green machine, motor was still as it came out of the package from epic. awesome motors..
