I though that the '66 Batmobile was #1 but the General Lee (Photo courtesy of George Barris.... WHAT the hell!!! That was another one from him. I didn't know that) is a good choice. And that 1968 Ford Mustang in Bullit was also a sweet car. In B movies, I would add Christine and The Car.
Steph
Jim NCC1701A 07-08-2004, 07:44 AM The yellow Mini from the classic NZ road movie Goodbye Pork Pie.
PhilipMarlowe 07-08-2004, 08:38 AM I would have included:
The Interceptor from the Mad Max movies
The APC from "Aliens"
The Jet car from Buckeroo Banzai
And how the hell did they miss KITT and the Bluesmobile?
Just Plain Al 07-08-2004, 10:12 AM They at least mentioned K.I.T.T. but not a word about the Jeeps in Rat Patrol.
John P 07-08-2004, 10:54 AM The Mach Five is still the coolest car ever.
I'll put the 66 Batmobile at #2 after the Mach 5.
Starsky's Torino in third for me.
Steve244 07-08-2004, 11:04 AM That would have to be U.N.C.L.E.'s heavily modified Piranha (http://chadwick-whitlowenterprises.com/piranha/shrtstry.htm)

Black Beauty from the Green Hornet
Monkeymobile
Munsters Hurst
Mantis from Hardcastle and McCormick
Mach V
soloboy5 07-08-2004, 11:54 AM Can anyone say GHOSTBUSTERS! And what about the spinner in Bladerunner? Those things could beat the General Lee from here to wherever it came from! Mad Max's interceptor should have taken the #1 spot.....
Steve244 07-08-2004, 12:16 PM Not to mention, "My Mother the Car (http://www.tvparty.com/recmothercar.html)".

I don't know, soloboy, I wouldn't want to be seen driving around in Ecto 1! :freak:
Rather be in the Ecto 1 than the orange Hick-mobile!
LoneKnight 07-08-2004, 07:13 PM No KITT?! WTF?
Well, Eleanor and the Time Machine from BTTF made it, so the list is ok......notice I said "ok". :p
Mike Warshaw 07-08-2004, 07:33 PM What was that show with the big Packard? 1970s.
Don't forget the Mod Squad woodie. Especially when Peggy Lipton is around.
PhilipMarlowe 07-08-2004, 07:59 PM I don't remember exactly what kind of car it was,(corvette maybe) but I can remember when the shortlived Bill Bixby series "The Magician" was on the air, I thought his car AND the custom-painted plane he could drive it into were the absolute peak of 70's-single-rich-guy-cool.
And no "Partridge Family" Bus?
rw2516 07-08-2004, 08:41 PM Bond's Aston Martin in Goldfinger
McQueen's Mustang in Bullitt
Was it a Mustang in original Gone in 60 Seconds?
The Trans Am in Smokey and Bandit
Remember the movie Black Moon Rising? Tommy Lee Jones as car thief after fancy prototype car being guarded by insurance investigator Linda Hamilton.
Old_McDonald 07-08-2004, 09:44 PM That would have to be U.N.C.L.E.'s heavily modified Piranha (http://chadwick-whitlowenterprises.com/piranha/shrtstry.htm)

MightyMax 07-09-2004, 09:59 AM How can that list NOT have either the Munster Coach or Dragula?
I vote to add those to the list as well as
1. Mad Max Main Force Patrol Interceptor
2. Monkeemobile
3. BTTF Delorean
4. Dodge Challenger from Vanishing Point
5. Strakers Car from UFO
Cheers,
Max Bryant
John P 07-09-2004, 10:07 AM Maxwell Smart's Sunbeam Alpine, with retractable machine gun.
Mrs. Peel's Lotus Elan - it doesn't do anything special, but Diana Rigg sits in it :D.

dreamer 07-09-2004, 10:36 AM Columbo's Peugot!
Steve244 07-09-2004, 10:52 AM did they make a kit of that?
addendum: yes they did (http://www.udisco.com/hobbies/inv/HELL02.HTM):
http://www.udisco.com/hobbies/pics/080161.jpg
Only Columbo's was a 2 door ragtop; accurizing detals (http://www.columbo-site.freeuk.com/inside.htm).
PhilipMarlowe 07-09-2004, 10:57 AM Mrs. Peel's Lotus Elan - it doesn't do anything special, but Diana Rigg sits in it :D.
So totally agree! Her in that leather suit is a powerful image from my childhood, and probably saved me from the traumatic childhood years when my grandmother made me faithfully watch the Liberace show with her. My grandma was an intelligent woman, but no joke, she never could figure out why a nice boy like Liberace never settled down and got married to a nice girl.

Steve244 07-09-2004, 11:02 AM that's a visual I didn't need.
PhilipMarlowe 07-09-2004, 11:14 AM that's a visual I didn't need.
Sorry!
This other picture of Ms Rigg might help make up for that!

Steve244 07-09-2004, 11:17 AM Didn't you ever wonder what happened to Mr. Peel? I mean look at the spikes on that choker.
PhilipMarlowe 07-09-2004, 11:58 AM ^Every time Diana got into a skimpy outfit it was absolutely essential to the plot, not because she was a hottie goddess. That was the beauty of "The Avengers".
I'm also surprised nobody mentioned Jim Rockford's Camaro and the "Route 66" '62 Corvette convertible, which frequently stole scenes from both Martin Milner AND George Maharis...
Steve244 07-09-2004, 12:28 PM then there's Supercar (http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/~bat/GA/supercar-cutaway.html)
http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/~bat/GA/CUTAWAYS/SC/sp-sc-dropshadow.jpg
It was always a little suspicious to me (a car with no wheels?).
Capt MarVell 07-09-2004, 05:34 PM Mayberry's squad car. And Barney's "Checkpoint Chickee" motorcycle with sidecar.
Old_McDonald 07-09-2004, 05:48 PM Bond.......James Bond.......Aston Martin DB7.:dude:
Steve244 07-09-2004, 06:19 PM Along that line, the Clampett's truck (http://www.prewarbuick.com/id367.htm).

crazy mike 07-09-2004, 06:29 PM Hannibal twin 8
J.B's Lotus Esprit
Maria Ospenskyia's little two wheeled gypsy wagon:)
Jim NCC1701A 07-10-2004, 12:16 AM Mark Hamill's Corvette from Corvette Summer? Any of the cars from Death Race 2000?
terryr 07-10-2004, 01:39 AM The Prisoners Lotus 7.
All the American Grafitti cars.
The camaro from Aloha Bobby and Rose, (with Paul Lemat) First car I saw that could turn corners fast.
Blades' car and bike.
My preferences:
'66 Batmobile
Black Beauty
Aston Martin DB5 with lethal accessories (and all its future incarnations)
89/'91 Batmobile
V-8 Interceptor
"Bullit" GT-390 Mustang
The black growling Jaguar XKE from "Brannigan"
DeLorean Time Machine (Mr. Fusion/flight-optioned)
1969 CHARGER: The preferred ride of IMF agents, vampire hunters, assassins (don't mention that hick show to me, it was a lousy concoction from the coke-fried "minds" of LaLa Land producers who've never been south of the 101), gee, can't imagine why that would be a popular car.....

Jim NCC1701A 07-10-2004, 03:38 AM Hey, I just forgot :) Robin 1, Magnum's Ferrari.
John P 07-10-2004, 08:44 AM The black growling Jaguar XKE from "Brannigan"
Oh yeah! With full-auto 1922 Mauser option :). Damn that was a cool scene.
Mike Warshaw 07-10-2004, 09:41 AM Is this degrading into a I-remember-every-car-on-film-and-video thread? Because we can get all American Grafitti on it and the game will explode.
Not to mention the Deathmobile.
PhilipMarlowe 07-10-2004, 10:54 AM Not to mention the Deathmobile.
The 1/18 "Animal House" Deathmobile was the first thing I ever dragged home that caused my long-suffering-normally-accomodating wife to say "That thing is not going in our living room."
Still one of the all time great movies though!
Steve244 07-10-2004, 12:53 PM Gilligan's bamboo car?
John F 07-10-2004, 01:08 PM The Ford P. O. S. from the first Men In Black, it had a few options that you don't see on the average Crown Vic.
Jim NCC1701A 07-10-2004, 06:18 PM Is this degrading into a I-remember-every-car-on-film-and-video thread?
Yup, certainly looks like we're heading down that road...
Anyone remember the Shelby Cobra from The Gumball Rally? IMHO that was the best of the drive-across-the-US flicks.
terryr 07-11-2004, 10:20 AM Yep. and it was a real cobra and a real ferrari daytona. Now, those cars are about a half million each. I'll bet the film crew are kicking themselves.
And that japanese car with night vision is still 'state of the art'.
I'm partial to the Munster Koach and Dragula. With the 66 Batmobile, Black Beauty and Monkeemobile, too.
My best,
Dirt

Jim NCC1701A 07-12-2004, 03:37 AM And that japanese car with night vision is still 'state of the art'.
Umm, wasn't that Cannonball Run II? With the Mitsubishi Starion driven by Richard 'Jaws' Kiel and (I think) Jackie Chan.
f1steph 07-12-2004, 06:01 AM Now I'm renaming this post as : Top 100 "Car Stars" of Film and TV.
Steve244 07-12-2004, 11:19 AM I've had a soft spot for T-birds after seeing Thelma and Louise...
http://www.cinepad.com/images/thelma.jpg
f1steph 07-12-2004, 11:16 PM And Vanishing point was also a "destructive" end.
terryr 07-13-2004, 11:11 AM Cannonball Run II? You may be right. Gumball, Cannonball Run, and Cannonball with David Carridine. They kind of blend together.
