apk power 07-05-2004, 01:06 AM I need some INFO on the Track and how to get to it. What gears would I run in Stock and if some one know that Mike is comeing to RPM on Monday if so I will aks him at RPM :)
cneyedog 07-05-2004, 01:25 AM I-4 east to I-95, take I-95 north to the LPGA Blvd exit, take a right at the end of the Ramp, goto the second traffic light, this will be Clyde Morris Blvd, make a left. The entrance to the Strickland Gun Range,Softball field and race track will be about 1/2 mile on your right. It has a brown parks sign near the entrance road follow the road down and the Track is located behind the softball field on your left.
THE TRACK IS NOT OPEN UNTIL 2 PM - due to the fact that the gun range is open and adjacent to the track. Gates open @ 2pm , racing starts @ 5pm. 2 qualifiers and a Main.
not sure on the stock gear, see kats post below .... i had the gear too high in my original post.
In 19T we run anywhere from a 31 to 36 depending on motor timing, tire size, and what spur size we prefer.
hope this helps,
Rich Boehmler
katf1sh 07-05-2004, 01:53 AM yikes dont smoke that stock motor! depending on tire size..with 2.40 being a new tire and a 2.28 being of avg size....please start gearing that stocker close to 32-100 with 2.28 tires...if you have new skins on try a 30-100 that will get you ball park without damaging your motor..mike bean should be there monday night..he doesn't miss many races ... cya there

cneyedog 07-11-2004, 12:02 PM Well, another fun night under @ the Strickland R/C Park. The 19T main was fast and furious.....no slouches in this race anyone of us in the field coulda won this thing if things went their way. Congrats to Billy Bruce for good win, and ronnie hames for making him work for it......lol. With the guys racing there this weekend in 19T i cant be too upset to get a top 5 finish..... it was fun.
Thanks to the Jax boys Phil, Bear, George, Tom and i guess even Dave P  for making the trip down to race with us and support our sweet asphalt track here in Daytona.
Once again a big thanks to mike bean for running the show and puttin up with all of us.....
lets all do it again next month ..... woooo hoooo.
rcgen 07-11-2004, 09:55 PM This was my second time racing at Strickland's and just like before I enjoyed it. TQ'd and a win in stock this time around, you can't ask for more :p I'll take that anytime. Hopefully, next time everyone will drive better like I know they can. Thanks again Mike Bean and Crew for the hospitality. Love the burgers and watermelon good call it was HOT!
irvan36mm 07-11-2004, 10:38 PM Thanks to the Daytona bunch,Bean & Sheriff Mike for putting on a great show at a great facility! The food also rocks, too! I will definitely be down there next month!

-George
katf1sh 07-12-2004, 06:27 PM no george..bean is not up to speed with that kind of stuff? he needs a web site for something like that? focars.net???? hmmmmmm
yeah bear i once loved buying handwound motors like you guys..but ever since boylan, billy and the rest of the gang agreed to run only the bird motor we haven't looked back yet. billy has/had the single fastest lap with a bird motor at hobby world..boylan has the track record with a ultrabird. and we all run the series so the motors are easy for us to get at 30.00 they are great! now there are no more motor of the month..no zapping magnets..no swiss cheese arms..and the racing is close..ronny,ed,myself,rich and billy all used the purple motors..that is 1st 2nd 4th and 5th and if ronny can go fast with one you know it's all car...if hobbyworld had them in stock for 30.00 a pop and you all agreed to use them you would never look back..there cheap, reliable and fast..only guys i know who hate them get special custom built 19 turns from there sponsors..cheaters! ahahhahaahhahahahhahahahahahah
see you on the 24th! racing was fun til that onroad nerd went right instead of left!!muahhahahahahahahhh
irvan36mm 07-13-2004, 12:03 AM no george..bean is not up to speed with that kind of stuff? he needs a web site for something like that? focars.net???? hmmmmmm

see you on the 24th! racing was fun til that onroad nerd went right instead of left!!muahhahahahahahahhhFish- Actually,HW has the 'Bird motors for 51.00. Reading about the 'Bird motor rule reminds me why HW (and both carpet tracks) ran the C1's and/or C2's for the longest time. It also turned away some racers because of their dislike of the lizards. Even though there were,uh,"uncoventional" tuning techniques that can be done to those things,it was & is still a good, competitive motor. Easy to tech, visually. But motors like the 'Bird and the ARCOR-based 19t is the future, whether anyone likes it or not. See you all on the 24th,if not next month!

davepull 07-13-2004, 01:52 AM Katfish you kill me man 1 year ago you were crying that the you couldn't run your handwound 19t on the carpet. and that having to have a motor in your box just for that track was stupid.
Now your asking guys like me and Bear to do just that. yah you say the motors are cheap well they ain't up here. so you say just call boylan or superior. well that isn't the easiest thing to work out. not all of us like giving out our credit card # am I going to buy one of these motors? Yah do I like it? NO
I want to remind everybody about this so called quality motor. ITS A HANDOUT!!! ENOUGH SAID.
i see both sides of the coin here i just don't like what I see. but if I have to have it to race aaawwwww f it

Dave, when the choice is between a handwound 19T for $50 or $60 and a Chameleon 2 , thats machine wound ........ the handwound 19T would be my choice.
Now, the choice is between a handwound 19T with p-94 hoods for $60 a pop ....... or the ultrabird, which is cheap and run very very well and consistent. Obviously the handwound motor should have the edge, and be faster....I cant get one to run a whole lot faster......but then im not motor guru either...... I'd rather buy 2 ultrabird handout motors for the price of your 1 handwound.....and race more. There is nothing wrong with the Ultrabird motors. Please dont give me the excuse about giving out your credit card ..... blah blah ...... If you could buy one at the track would you ? ..... if you come to the FOCAR race at the end of the month...... you'll have one in your pitbox next time you come to Strickland...... so you can run a purple motor. I told Tom saturday night exactly what i do to my ultra-bird to make it run.
BTW, as far as im aware ...... Strickland (mike bean) has not told anyone they cant run another motor. We'd like it if we all could run the same motor to take the "frankenstein motor" out of the equation and keep the cost down a little.
The guys who have run the FOCAR series all have the motors, and we like to run them ..... evens things up IMO. I can understand you dont want to buy a "special" motor to run strickland i guess ........ but how much do we spend on these cars ? ..... how many of those "handwound" $60 motors are in those pit boxes in Jax? .... you guys must be loaded up there.:D
i payed 40 a motor for my arcors and 30 a motor for the ultrabirds, not sixty.i love racing with you guys and i will continue to do so,but how can i get more cars from up here to go down there and support ya'll if i tell them they gotta buy another motor,on top of gas, food, and entry fee!its a club race not a big race.maybe we should run spec tires and spec batteries and motors.just my opinion but that doesnt matter except for my vote in focars.hahahahahahahaahahaha bear.............
irvan36mm 07-13-2004, 04:19 PM .....maybe we should run spec tires and spec batteries and motors.just my opinion but that doesnt matter except for my vote in focars.hahahahahahahaahahaha bear.............At least I've got plenty of those to run! LOL Open the motor rule! Everyone now is running some kind of adjustable 19t motor, instead of just one type. My .02
-George
cneyedog 07-13-2004, 04:24 PM geez bear, those $40 handwounds must be nice ....... lol. Most of us have to pay $60 for a handwound ...... we dont have contacts like you do:cool: . But there again your asking us to buy motors to run a club race at OUR local track, that we wouldnt run aywhere else to keep up with you guys from Jax....... I have both types of motors .....i guess next time I'll do what i have to to keep up with the invaders.
What is it exactly that you dont like about the ultra-birds? i just gotta know
cneyedog 07-13-2004, 04:26 PM Open the motor rule! Everyone now is running some kind of adjustable 19t motor
Be careful what ya wish for...... it may get expensive.....LOL.
davepull 07-13-2004, 05:04 PM hey Rich I still feel bad about the main. the credit card thing isn't an excuse. I recently had someone hack into my paypal account and charge up $250.00 bucks. and you wouldn't believe what it is taking to get it back.
You are right I am going to have to buy a motor for this Focar race. doesn't mean i'll like it spending the 30 bucks. hey if that is the motor that i'll have to have to run then fine. i loved the track and had alot of fun and can't wait to get back.
cneyedog 07-13-2004, 06:18 PM hey Rich I still feel bad about the main. the credit card thing isn't an excuse. I recently had someone hack into my paypal account and charge up $250.00 bucks. and you wouldn't believe what it is taking to get it back.

OUCH! ... Glad ya had fun at the Track and the FOCAR race will be too. Ya gotta admit its nice to know that at the FOCAR race everyone will have the same type of motor though.
Like I said earlier, Mike Bean hasnt declared an official rule on the motor deal..(as far as i know). we all have had a "gentleman's agreement" to run the purple motor (ultrabird) ... thats all. see ya at the FOCAR race....u too Bear!
katf1sh 07-13-2004, 06:27 PM dave strickland is not my track! i'm not asking a damn thing from you guys? i know why bean is asking everyone in 19 turn to use a bird motor..and i love the idea..but of course i do ..i have done this enough to understand they are the best option for keeping costs down and the racing close in 19 turn. if hobby world sells a ultrabird for 51.00 that is machine wound..how much is a hand wound motor from them?
i have no motor sponsor so 30.00 bird motors rock my world! lol plus using them at other tracks just helps my motor program even more.. do you all think boylan or billy has some voodoo spell they cat on there 30.00 machine wound motors?
and george there was nothing easy to tech about a unadjustable C2 or C1 motor. you would be crazy if you think your C2 motor was just like malins C2 motor? lol i do believe that a hand wound motor from any company is very close to any other companies hand wound..and dave the church went under before the ultra bird motor was born. i know quality when i see it..i have been racing enough to know that as of today my 30.00 bird motor with my GP 4 cell pack are 2 of the greatest thing to ever come along in oval racing in 17 years..that is my honest oppinion..i'm paying less for a 19 turn than i ever have for a stock motor and i love it! my GP packs run strong for months on end..i love it...to steal from mcdonalds.."i'm lovin it" mike bean has been around as long as I and he will also tell you the same story..rich will as well...along with many others including mike boylan and billy bruce..billy has a motor deal and he wont order any handwounds..were all so damn happy racing with what we have..the most embarassing thing that i have witnessed is mike and billy going to a new track and in 5 battery packs shatter every 19 turn record hobby world had..they did this with a ultrabird motor..not a hand wound motor? it's all in the car fellas..find it and you will be fast with any 19 turn motor... everytime i race with dave it's outdoors..i suck biznalls outside..most days i look like it's my first time racing... are my motors or batteries and different than when i'm on carpet? nope! it's all set-up..i know carpet..i know jack about hot parking lots! lol
it's not my decission to run ultrabird motors..do i agree with it? heck yeah! will i back bean? heck yeah! do i realy care what you guys think you need to go fast? nope..my oppinion run what you think you need to go fast with..if it makes you feel good than dont let me step in the way..i'll just post on here that dave is using a cheater motor! ahahhaahahhahaah heck i'll even take pictures of it! forget rumors!
think about this..1 year ago like dave said i wanted adjustable timming 19 turns..1 year later you all got with the program and got rid of those horrible C2 motors! now i'm telling you all the ultrabird motor is the only motor for 19 turn racing..lets see how long it takes for you guys to catch on? by than i will have something better? i hope not..racing is cheap for me as of today..
ultrabird stocks and 19 turns i think must be bought by the case i think a case is 50 motors..they are 20.00 a pop when bought this way and they come without springs and brushes...any hobby shop can buy them..TQ hobbies has them in stock at this time for 30.00 a pop but they include a new pair of 4383 brushes and a set of red and green springs..rpm has the stocks in stock for less than 20.00 a pop and they also have monster stocks in stock for less than 20.00 a pop as well...rpm and TQ use the bird motors for there point series racing..i think TQ has a series right now..for 25.00 you get a entry and a bird 19 turn motor..with your entry you have the option of buying 3 more 19 t bird motors for 15.00 a pop...this tells me that the bird motors when bought at 50 at a time may well be less than 20.00 a piece? damn good deal..
why would you guys not want to run equal motors in your oval cars? and please dont get me started on "spec" racing..there was and isn't anything spec about the spec racing i have witnessed..there rules are easier to stretch than taffy!
honestly guys post on here why you dont want to run the same motor as your neighbor? price and availibility not being an issue. why?
katf1sh 07-13-2004, 06:29 PM I want to remind everybody about this so called quality motor. ITS A HANDOUT!!! ENOUGH SAID.
holds the track record at 80% of the florida oval tracks! nuff said! if you all cant whoop a handout motor it may be time for needlepoint? is it realy that bad? cause if it is..i wonder what that makes you guys? hmmmmmmm
Shumacher 99 07-13-2004, 06:46 PM It wasn't that long ago (like 2 months) you only could run C2's at Hobby World. I hated the C2 I could never get one that ran worth a S**T. So I raced and still do race Stock. Now they all agreed to run open 19 turn and alot of money was spent to run the motor of their preference. Now your saying to us in Jax. "well if you race here you can only run the Bird motor" And the guys aren't diggin spending more money and being told what they can run. I run stock so this does'nt effect me but I can see Jax. racers point. Bear also makes a good point about it's a club race not a major race You should be able to run what you like . That's why they changed it at HW.
-Chris
P.S.
That record at HW alomost fell 2 weeks ago by less than a sec. And we had a good showing at stricklands with a TQ and won stock plus had 4 in the top five. TQ'ed 19 turn. Bear was the fastest car on the track until his wreck . So we're not to bad up here...lol
katf1sh 07-13-2004, 07:10 PM It wasn't that long ago (like 2 months) you only could run C2's at Hobby World. I hated the C2 I could never get one that ran worth a S**T. So I raced and still do race Stock.
ok with that being said what would make strickland any different than hobby world? instead of C2's only you would need a peuple motor. and every single racer in 19 turn would have the same motor. i'm not going to argue til i'm blue in the face..boylan and billy have 1000's of less laps on hobby worrld and yet they managed to break track records with a handout motor? like i said if the motors were junk than mike and billy realy know how to go around in a circle i guess?
they backed up what i knew..the 30.00 motors run like a gem.
again i will continue to use them..even if others wont..i know where the speed is and where it isn't..i'll just keep wrenching on my cars. if bean gives into the pressue and allows any motor i will still race and have just as much fun. it would be even sweeter to win with a "handout" motor anyways. this is not about who is the better driver..it's about a motor..dave thinks there crap..i am just backing up my claim that they are quality..track records speak for themselves..i'm just here to remind you all that the holy of holy records was set with a crap motor? and if they are crap like dave thinks they are well than i'm not sure where that puts the rest of the pack that use the 60.00 hand wounds? does anyone think billy and mike were down on horsepower? were they slow on the straightaway?
oh yeah i will have off the friday of august 27th friday so i'll try and get a posse of us to come up and play again? should have another monster 19 turn crowd... think outside the box.....peace
Shumacher 99 07-13-2004, 07:24 PM I have never ran a ultra Bird so I don't know if it's crap or not . With records speaking then it's not. C2's I have ran and they are CRAP. That's why they opened it up at HW. Most of the racers I know of said If stricklands only allows you to run the Bird then that's what they will run.Others say they won't go to stricklands if the motor they have in their box won't be legal at a club race. I want to move up to 19 turn and have no problems buying 20 dollar 19 turn motors that run well. But then again I haven't spent hundreds on new handwounds. Like I said JMO It does'nt effect me. Hope to see ya the 27th
-Chris
davepull 07-13-2004, 07:56 PM only guys i know who hate them get special custom built 19 turns from there sponsors.. ahahhahaahhahahahhahahahahah
hey leave Phil out of this mmuuuuuuuuuuuuufhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa
hey I have to buy one to race then that is what I'll do. after reading your book that you just wrote Kat I think what you are saying is these motors are just as good if not better than my D5 so what is the big Deal?
I talked to Butts and you know what he said about a motor rule " you got to be kidding me so now I have to buy one of those things to run there"
I also can't wait to race the noccar national champ (I am hearing this was in gear box stock) on the rug!!!!!!!! :)
davepull 07-13-2004, 08:02 PM does anyone think billy and mike were down on horsepower? were they slow on the straightaway?
hell yes If They had Phils horsepower we might have seen a slow 37. if you watched mikes car it looked like it was on a slot and he drove great.
katf1sh 07-13-2004, 08:26 PM I talked to Butts and you know what he said about a motor rule " you got to be kidding me so now I have to buy one of those things to run there"
:)
you tell butts it's hobby world or ultrabird..make a choice! muhahahahahahahaha
honestly dave i dont see a difference in on track performance with birds and handwounds. my head says there should be..but the track says nope. i'll race with you guys no matter what motor you choose. it's club level and for fun..i'm always trying to get my car better outdoors..next month the stock motor comes out! lol dont get all hung up over a motor. strickland is gentelmans rules..the gentelman of daytona promise to run bird motors..the savages from the north can do what they want! ahhahaahhahaahahaha
if your ride wasn't box stock you may have had a shot! ahhahaahahh
cneyedog 07-13-2004, 10:49 PM Most of the racers I know of said If stricklands only allows you to run the Bird then that's what they will run.Others say they won't go to stricklands if the motor they have in their box won't be legal at a club race. I want to move up to 19 turn and have no problems buying 20 dollar 19 turn motors that run well.I'd offer up this scenario, run what you have in 19T if you make the ride down to race with us at Strickland's. The more the merrier... lol. But when the time comes you need a new fresh 19T to run, give the purple motor a try and see what you think... you just might like it.
I'm going to make this perfectly clear again.... as of right now I am not aware there is any RULE that you have to run an Ultrabird 19T to race 19T at Strickland. As of right now its run whatever 19T you'd like. Arcor 19T's, Roar 19T's and Ultrabird 19t's are legal. (if someone knows otherwise, let me know...lol)
The bunch of us who have the motors all agreed to run them ... thats all. I like running them at Strickland it helps me out so i can try some different combinations for when i race FOCAR....besides most of the time that extra .1 sec is found in the car not the motor:D
No one here is trying to chase anyone off or alienate anyone from coming down to race with us .... IMO i just think it would be cool if we all ran the same motors if possible. But either way I'm going to race and enjoy myself....afterall this is for fun. I'm going to try and make it on Aug 27th along with the fish and whoever else can make it up to hobbyworld that day.
see ya, Rich
rcgen 07-13-2004, 11:11 PM Where can I get one or two of the birds. I am not scared to try something different. I'll run the bird at hw or anywhere. I want move up to run 19t and run faster than stock
GATOR45 07-13-2004, 11:22 PM [COLOR=RoyalBlue]THE ULTRA BIRD IS THE ONLY MOTOR YOU WILL EVER NEED!!!!
"PLUS" IF YOU PUT SOME GATOR FREEZE ON IT,YOU WILL BE BALLISTIC!!!

davepull 07-13-2004, 11:47 PM you tell butts it's hobby world or ultrabird..make a choice! muhahahahahahahaha
honestly dave i dont see a difference in on track performance with birds and handwounds. my head says there should be..but the track says nope. i'll race with you guys no matter what motor you choose. it's club level and for fun..i'm always trying to get my car better outdoors..next month the stock motor comes out! lol dont get all hung up over a motor. strickland is gentelmans rules..the gentelman of daytona promise to run bird motors..the savages from the north can do what they want! ahhahaahhahaahahaha
if your ride wasn't box stock you may have had a shot! ahhahaahahh
awwwwwww hell see that Bear we scared the Fish back to stock. I you might have your work cut out for yah My boy Chris Garfield was running some 5.5 lap times with a ford bodied L3.
I know why my car just up and spun out in the main it was because i am too cheap and was running chunked tires well it must have spit out a chunk.
I'd offer up this scenario, run what you have in 19T if you make the ride down to race with us at Strickland's. The more the merrier... lol. But when the time comes you need a new fresh 19T to run, give the purple motor a try and see what you think... you just might like it.
well said I had a blast racing with you guys and I look forward to doing more of it and patching up all of the things that happened in the past. I think Katf1sh now realizes what a tight spot I was in with the carpet track.
and for anybody that cares because I do
11 years ago today we lost Davey Allison RIP
