View Full Version : Tomy Turbo complete chassis needed for a project.
TX Street Racer 06-30-2004, 03:19 PM Good afternoon guys, I'm in need of one complete running Tomy Turbo chassis.....for a custom body that I'm working on right now. Here's a link to the pics of the body I'm using...........
http://racleg.free.fr/pages_kits/ford32.htm
LOL, all I need now is a chassis for it to fit on.....I've tried AFX/Tyco chassis....and there was no way to adapt the body to fit one.
Please e-mail or PM me if you have one to part with......
Thanks, Brian sniperman76@hotmail.com
AfxToo 06-30-2004, 10:04 PM Bud's has the Turbo and the SRT chassis for a good price: http://www.homestead.com/budshocars/budsho.html
If you need a flatter chassis that still mounts using AFX style mounts the Aurora G-Plus with the built-in wide body mounts is another option. The narrow (or female) G-Plus chassis with an adapter often ends up being too tall for some really flat bodies like the Ferrari Daytona.
Yet another popular option that a lot of folks use for custom bodies is the Tyco 440-X2 narrow chassis (not the wide "pan" chassis!). The narrow Tyco 440-X2 chassis mounting mechanism is fairly straightforward. Take a look at how the Tyco F1s and the Tyco ZR-1 Corvettes (and the TwinMill) are mounted.
Finally, Bud's offers an adapter clip to fit an AFX body on a narrow Tyco 440-X2 chassis. That's yet another option.
If you are really desparate for clearance and need an ultra narrow chassis the Aurora slimline hot rod chassis might be the ticket. I've had bad luck with slimlines melting down but some folks love them.
I'd bet the narrow Tyco 440-X2 chassis will give you the greatest number of options for a go fast chassis. Buds used to have narrow Tyco 440-X2 chassis but they are not currently listed. Other vendors should have them too.

Thanks for your help........I've got plenty of Tyco chassis to use......but this body I'm using (which is pictured in the link) uses a strange mounting style to me....and I tried fitting it on AFX/Tyco 440X2 chassis today and it won't work.
Is there an adapter piece that I might be able to use for the chassis to get it to adapt to a Tomy Turbo style body mount system?
AfxToo 06-30-2004, 11:29 PM Hmmm. Not even on a narrow Tyco chassis. The wide Tomy Turbo/SRT chassis uses the same mounting system as the AFX but the Turbo/SRT chassis is even bulkier than the AFX. Maybe a Tomy SG+ without the body mounting clip or a narrow Turbo/SRT would work.
I seriously doubt you'll find a chassis that will fit as-is. The solution will likely involve finding a chassis that has the correct wheelbase but is narrower than the body, and then adding something to the body (like plastic tabs made from scrap plastic or Plastruct) to allow it to mount on to the narrow chassis. Another trick when using chassis that have body mounting clips (like the Tomy Super G+ and Aurora G-Plus) is to glue the body mounting clip inside the body and mount/unmount the body+clip as a unit on the narrow chassis. As long as the mounting tabs on the clip are maintained in the right place the back of the clip can be hacked up to fit inside the body.
The last resort is to use double sided foam tape to mount a narrow chassis inside a wider body.
Maybe post a picture of the bottom of the body alongside a reference chassis and someone will come up with a better suggestion.
WesJY 07-01-2004, 09:35 AM maybe he is talking about tomy turbo F1 chassis that has long wheelbase with no clip on top. the one that will fit older formula body only? or am i wrong?

Wes, I've tried this body on Tyco 440X2's,AFX mag,Gplus, and also a regular Tomy........none fit the body. I'm willing to bet that you are correct though....I'll bet it fits that narrow Tomy F1 Turbo chassis....
Sooooo.....having said that, anyone have a spare F1 turbo chassis to part with??
micyou03 07-02-2004, 10:37 AM Have you tried a Tomy Super G-Plus with the body clip removed? Many Tomy F1 cars come on those also.

Yes, I did remove the body clip also....trying to get it to fit.....but I think it needs to be the narrow chassis.......
AfxToo 07-03-2004, 01:01 AM The Tomy Turbo "narrow" chassis is 1/16" narrower than the Tomy SG+ chassis, but only at the SG+ magnet clip (immediately in front of the rear wheels). Otherwise the Turbo is 1/8" wider than the SG+. The Turbo is bulkier in its midsection than the SG+ because it uses the same arm dimension, but the Turbo arm is in a can. (Hmmm, bulky midsection, can... sounds familiar.)
If you've tried the SG+ and if the only place it didn't fit was at the magnet clip then perhaps a narrow Turbo will work. But if you have interference with the SG+ chassis in other areas then the Turbo won't help solve the probem.
For a hot rod style vehicle you may also want to consider using an AFX Specialty chassis, which is what Aurora used on their AFX hot rods. They are as wide as an AFX is but don't have body mounting tabs. Look for the specialty chassis on this site: http://members.aol.com/hifisapien/afxchas.htm
TX Street Racer 07-03-2004, 10:57 PM Ok guys, I just got an e-mail response from the creator of the body that I'm using......he has designed the body to fit onto the Tomy Turbo f1 narrow chassis......... so that's what I'm in need of....
Isn't that a narrow G plus chassis under that car in the picture???????????

HOLY Resurrected posts Batman!!! :freak:
The chassis under the car pictured was a Tomy Turbo.....
I'm no longer in need of any Tomy chassis.......as I have plenty on hand...and I completed this custom slot car project looooong ago.......most of the older members here might remember my black Hemi powered Rat Rod
wheelz63 03-11-2006, 01:32 PM ive got the turbo chassis for sale in ebay for 10.00 apiece look under maggie630_1 and you can find the chassis you want.
Captain Fred 03-11-2006, 01:40 PM This thread is almost 2 years old!
wheelz63 03-11-2006, 02:59 PM sorry guys im new to this
Captain Fred 03-11-2006, 10:56 PM If you have some chassis to sell, this is still a good place to sell them. You can start a new thread of your own. Someone else here may be interested in them.
